PDC and BDC with LDAP and Samba 2.2.4
Hi,
I'm trying to build a PDC and BDC to elimenate Windows NT on a
network and have load balancing and fault tolerence for users.
I've compiled samba 2.2.4 on two servers, working with openldap 2.0.23
with a master and a slave. Replication on LDAP servers works fine.
I've set up a domain controller and wanted to set the other server
as BDC in case the PDC goes down. Each time i put

BDC with LDAP and Samba 2.2.4
Hi,
I've compiled samba 2.2.4 on two servers, working with openldap 2.0.23
with a master and a slave. Replication on LDAP servers works fine.
I've set up a domain controller and wanted to set the other server
as BDC in case the PDC goes down. Each time i put the
"domain logons = yes" option, some people can't log in, computers
seems to seek for a domain controler. Also,

Samba+PDC+LDAP (add user script + unix passwd sync) Can't call perl script
Hi, i've compiled samba 2.2.4 on a Redhat 7.1 machine, working
with openldap 2.0.23. I also downloaded smbldap-tools from IDEALX
which i fixed myself to fit my needs. Everything work very fine
when running the scripts in shell mode... but!
In smb.conf :

add user script = /usr/local/sbin/smbldap-useradd.pl -w %u
This line don't work and it should, because when running

add user script w/ idealx perl script (ldap)
Dear samba guru,
I have a little bug i can't solve. It is pretty misterious to me,
must be a problem how samba execute the add user script. Now here
is the situation. I've compiled samba 2.2.4 with ldap 2.0.23 to run
as PDC with win2k workstations. Everything works as expected except
the add user script to add workstation automaticly to the domain.
add user script =

(no subject)
I just ran across this myself. I guess I dont understand why there
needs to be machine names in /etc/passwd if you are storing everything
in LDAP. Am I missing a configuration option here? Can one of you
samba geniuses point me in the right direction please?
Thank you!

We've encountered a problem with getting a newly installed Samba based

Here's the command line and error response:

WAS: Newbie: can't connect localhost:901 - help
Don't feel stupid. I'd guess you're using 2.4 kernel and not the 2.2 kernel?
In 2.2 services default to using inet.d
In 2.4 services default to using xinetd to start stuff.
You need to go to /etc/xinet.d and make sure the file swat
has a "disable=no" in it.
As a matter of fact, for security purposes, I'd do a vi * in that directory (/etc/xinet.d ) and make sure

Stupid Newbie: can't connect localhost:901 - help
I've installed the rpm's and everything seems to be

the one on redhat that says i must change localhost to

Samba as PDC and BDC on the same network.
I have recently configured two servers to be controlers of my domain.
The first one is the PDC and is configured like :
domain master = yes
prefered master = yes
local master = yes
domain logons = yes
security = user
os level = 99
And the second, the BDC like :
domain master = no
prefered master = no
local master = no
domain logons = yes
security = user

Question about new Samba 3 rc4 and BDC
I have looked a bit through some of the archives for this list, and I have
caught different ideas on this matter.. I've also read through the
HOWTOs on how to do this stuff, but I haven't received the same results
that I was expecting, so I need someone to help me out a bit, give me a
definite YES or NO and if YES, how?
I have the latest release candidate of samba 3 installed on redhat-9.

Looking for ways to save space - AKA how to boot multiple machines from the same root
Because everything I searched on for a PXELinux mailing list pointed me to here. And because PXELinux is a derivative of SYSLinux. If there is a better mailing list for my questions, please let me know.
Since you say its possible, care to enlighten me on how to do so?

BDC nmblookup and net getlocalsid not working
Hi,
After lots of struggle and rtfm I finally got most things running, except
for 'nmblookup' and 'net getlocalsid' on the BDC. I'm not new to Samba, but
plenty more to learn. Here's the setup in summary:
system pdc is the PDC on subnet 192.168.0.0, running SuSE10.1, LDAP master,
wins server, domain master browser, no iptables;
system bdc is the BDC on subnet 192.168.2.0,

Understanding Documentation about BDC in HowTo Collection
hi list&john,
i read in the documention about BDCs:
The domain SID has to be the same on the PDC and the BDC. In Samba
versions pre-2.2.5, the domain SID was stored in the file
|private/MACHINE.SID|. For all versions of Samba released since 2.2.5
the domain SID is stored in the file |private/secrets.tdb|. This file is
unique to each server and cannot be copied from a PDC to a BDC; the BDC

BDC Server Settings Doubts?
Hi people.
I have finally my PDC+BDC running with LDAP+replicaon different subnets.
My doubts are simple, I want to understand a little more about BDC.
My network is this:
Domaine Name=DOMA
Networks:NET-A 192.168.40.0/24
NET-B 192.168.50.0/24
PDC=192.168.40.2
BDC=192.168.50.2 wins server = PDC
As u can see, both serves exist on different subnets,I want to

Promoting BDC to PDC
Hi,
Does someone know how will all my client machines find the BDC when
the PDC is stopped. Both PDC and BDC are running Samba with LDAPSAM
backend replicated on both the PDC with master LDAP database and BDC
with replicated LDAP database. But when I stop PDC the clients are
not detecting the BDC broadcast. The replication on all domain
controllers are perfect. I went as far as making BDC

How SMB client recognizes when to use PDC or BDC
Hi,
Maybe this was asked many time (although can't find it on google). Let's
assume 2 scenarios:
1) I've got local network where PDC and BDC are set up. PDC is working
fine so the BDC is. When it's possible for any XP client to use BDC
instead of PDC? I read in samba docs that if PDC is slow client can use
BDC - but what does it mean slow for the client? How the client knows

BDC needs a [profile] and [netlogon] share ?
Hi all,
I have a BDC which uses the LDAP backend of my PDC. Unfortunately all the users who log-in in the morning and who are processed by this BDC, do not get their logon script executed. The BDC logs this error message:
[2013/05/24 07:28:11.946577, 2] auth/auth.c:304(check_ntlm_password)
check_ntlm_password: authentication for user [foobar] -> [foobar] -> [foobar] succeeded

Samba BDC and secrets.tdb question
I have a question about setting up a samba BDC
(with a samba PDC).
I am running Samba as the PDC on a small network.
Other Unix boxes on the network are running
with:
security = DOMAIN
encrypt passwords = Yes
update encrypted = Yes
password server = 192.168.1.5
So they make use of the PDC for smbmount and smbsh
applications. The W2K box also uses Samba at the PDC.
I want to set up a Redhat
