Samba+PDC+LDAP (add user script + unix passwd sync) Can't call perl script
Hi, i've compiled samba 2.2.4 on a Redhat 7.1 machine, working
with openldap 2.0.23. I also downloaded smbldap-tools from IDEALX
which i fixed myself to fit my needs. Everything work very fine
when running the scripts in shell mode... but!
In smb.conf :
=============
add user script = /usr/local/sbin/smbldap-useradd.pl -w %u
This line don't work and it should, because when running

SOLVED! PDC and BDC with LDAP and Samba 2.2.4
It's me again, with the solution to my problems.
To get a working BDC, you have to kill samba, delete your
secrets.tdb, create a MACHINE.SID and then restart samba. You
will have to do this on the PDC and the BDC to have the same
SID the the secrets.tdb file. Then machine account are valid
even if you move your PDC, or you add a 2nd BDC, as long as you
create the MACHINE.SID file before the

add user script w/ idealx perl script (ldap)
Dear samba guru,
I have a little bug i can't solve. It is pretty misterious to me,
must be a problem how samba execute the add user script. Now here
is the situation. I've compiled samba 2.2.4 with ldap 2.0.23 to run
as PDC with win2k workstations. Everything works as expected except
the add user script to add workstation automaticly to the domain.

I just ran across this myself. I guess I dont understand why there
needs to be machine names in /etc/passwd if you are storing everything
in LDAP. Am I missing a configuration option here? Can one of you
samba geniuses point me in the right direction please?
Thank you!

BDC with LDAP and Samba 2.2.4
Hi,
I've compiled samba 2.2.4 on two servers, working with openldap 2.0.23
with a master and a slave. Replication on LDAP servers works fine.
I've set up a domain controller and wanted to set the other server
as BDC in case the PDC goes down. Each time i put the
"domain logons = yes" option, some people can't log in, computers
seems to seek for a domain controler. Also,

- Win2k local groups and domain groups on linux PDC
I am currently running Samba 2.2.4 on a RH 7.1 box acting as a PDC with two Win2k test clients attaching to it. Users authenticate to the PDC via an LDAP server running on the PDC and that works ok. I can also join the domain with no problems. What I am trying to accomplish is to have a domain user or better yet a group of domain users, be able to log into the win2k box and have the linux

WAS: Newbie: can't connect localhost:901 - help
Don't feel stupid. I'd guess you're using 2.4 kernel and not the 2.2 kernel?
In 2.2 services default to using inet.d
In 2.4 services default to using xinetd to start stuff.
You need to go to /etc/xinet.d and make sure the file swat
has a "disable=no" in it.
As a matter of fact, for security purposes, I'd do a vi * in that directory (/etc/xinet.d ) and make sure

Act! database on a Samba server
Does anyone have experience with getting an Act! database working
without corruption on a Samba server? I had five users in an Act!
database where I was getting pretty regular corruption, even after
adding "oplocks = no" to the share. We have since moved the database
onto a Win 2000 machine, but we would rather have it back on the Samba
server if we can solve the corruption problem. Any

Setting up XEN domU causes RAID5 to fail?
This may be a coincidence or not, but I''m building a new XEN system for
myself for work purposes.
I support several different versions of a software that cannot be installed
at the same time, so I decided I wanted to setup a XEN domU for each.
I had 5 spare 500GB drives so I put them in my system and partitioned them
so I have a RAID1 boot, a RAID5 root and a RAID5 images.

Nelson-Aalen Estimator in R: Error Message
Hard to tell from the info you are giving us. I assume this regards the "mice" package?
One way to proceed is to set options(error=recover) which will dump you into the browser() environment when the error occurs and you can oka around and see what the value of variables was at the point of the error. This could give you a clue about what is going on.

Looking for ways to save space - AKA how to boot multiple machines from the same root
Because everything I searched on for a PXELinux mailing list pointed me to here. And because PXELinux is a derivative of SYSLinux. If there is a better mailing list for my questions, please let me know.
Since you say its possible, care to enlighten me on how to do so?
