Busy file and partial transfer??
Hi,
I actually wrote about this issue over a year ago and got a response
from Wayne which I'm thinking resolved the problem. Now I've got the
issue again, even though I removed the option that appeared to be the
culprit.
Basically I'm using rsync to backup a directory structure on a 2003
Server, and there are a couple of files that are in use and locked. On
is a PST file, and a few

Busy file and partial transfer??(2nd Post)
Can anyone help on this? Or is this just a bug with rsync on certain
files?

Font permissions with X11-adobe
Hi All,
We're trying to get R with the standard gui loaded onto CentOS 4, and
under certain users R will not render certain graphics. When logged in
as root the graphics render, but under the restricted user they don't.
The graphics don't render with the error:

Rsyncd and Environmental Paths
I have this in my rsync.conf
[backup]
path = /home/$USER/backup
use chroot = no
monge symlinks = no
uid = wendell
gid = wendell
read only = no
list = yes
auth users = wendell
secrets file = /etc/rsyncd.secrets
But rsync doesn't seem to interpret the $USER. I've also tried this with $HOME and '~' with no luck. I want to be able to back up to the

"homes" vs "home"
> What is the homes share on ?
I'm not quite sure what this is asking. The paths are of the form /data/homefolder/<users>, on a mounted local disk.
> How have you set smb.conf up ?
The homes section is as follows:
[homes]
comment = Home directories
browseable = yes
writable = yes
create mask = 0600
force create mode = 0600
directory mask = 0700
force directory mode = 0700

Remove default homeshare
Hi
I'm running a samba-server as fileserver on a Windows 2003 PDC. The users
are create on the WinServer, and the homefolders are defined in the AD and
stored on the sambaserver //server/homes/%user%. But samba still creates
the default share with the same name as the user. How di I disable that. I
have # everything that's named something like home and etc..

the story of 2 samba, 1 ldap as passdb, and home sharing issue...quite urgent ^^
Hi there,
I have 2 samba servers on with different users logged on...
I Have 1 ldap with all users account, each samba's server having

in ou=1, user B from site 2 is know on samba from site 2 in ou=2, user C
from site 1 is know on samba from site 1 in ou=1 etc.
And last, on each samba's server a

Updated chroot patch
Howdy folks,
The chroot patch in the contrib directory had gotten stale and didn't apply
cleanly, so I've updated it... The attached patch works fine with 3.0p1.
Is there any reason this patch stays in the contrib directory rather than
being applied to the source? I find it incredibly useful.
Thanks for your hard work on OpenSSH!

Using GPO to mount shares on Linux
Wohoo, finaly i could help Rowland :-p ;-)
I follow this as guidance:
1 server ( all in one ) use RID, easy to setup etc, but .. If you go to ... Or have plans to..
2 servers ( DC + a member )
use backend RID if you dont need access with a windows account to a shared home folder. ( cifs or nfs )
you use a dedicated local "linuxAdmin" for maintanace. ( often the first created

"homes" vs "home"
Thank you for the replies. After some more reading I realised that path substitution works in general shares and not just [homes], so something like the following achieves what I'm looking for:
[home]
path = /data/users/%U
This works in 4.2.14 (although I am now looking on how to upgrade Samba too!)
Thanks again,
Shak

Rsync with non-english characters in filenames?
Hi,
I am trying to use rsync to migrate homefolders from one server to
another. For this I use:
> rsync --rsh="ssh -l root" -vaz beaucent.ling.umu.se:/export/home/ .
Which works fine until I get to some files where the user has,
unfortunatelly, used a non-ascii character in the file name:

samba-3.4.7 & access to share from win7
Hello list,
I have tried rather much (forums, google) and trying this as the last option. The problem is that one is not able to access "group" samba shares from windows 7 machines, everything ok from win-ts-2003 & xp machines. Every user belongs to his primary group defined in samba+openldap pdc. If they want to access the share named according to their primary group (with

Hai,
Not that its wrong what Rowland made you change ( AD to RID backend).
But this "should" simply not be needed.
The only/mostly thing(s) people do wrong with AD-backends, is the order in how it all is setup.
Currently this is due 2 things,
1) "in my opionin" a missing part in samba(-tool)
2) The missing part in samba(-tool)
Lets hope this will enter samba in 4.13
