Queries regarding samba usage : sharing files with Win NT/2000

i study in an institute where the PC's have either Win 2000/NT
RedHat 7.2 . I have been trying to set my PC such that can be
mounted / accessed from every other PC in the lab but am unable
to do so. I am also unable to share my files over the network.
I read the 'smb.conf' file and did required changes . When i
access this PC from other PC's , it comes to connecting menu but

If you get a "connection refused" response then the smbd server may
not be running. If you installed it in inetd.conf then you probably
edited
that file incorrectly. If you installed it as a daemon then check
that
it is running, and check that the netbios-ssn port is in a LISTEN
state using "netstat -a".
Note: You have xinetd not inetd on the redhat box. To avoid all

transfer users and password form win NTto linux fileserver
Hi people!
I?m a fireman from S?o Paulo Fire Dapartment (Brasil) and I?m encharged to
give support to the Computer System of the headquarter.
We have for about 500 users connected in a fileserver running Red Hat 7.2,
but we are authenticating the users using another machine running win NT. I
would like to turn off the win NT but I don?t known how getting the users

Win 9x printer problem
I am continuing to struggle with a strange SAMBA Printing problem. Here
are the details:
1) NT based clients can log on as guests or as users and can print in
either case with no problems.
2) Windows 9x clients can log in as either guest or as users and can access
shares with no problems.
3) Windows 9x clients attempting to print directly to the SAMBA printer

Win 2000 and Samba
I administer an NT network. My boss administers the Unix side. He runs a
box that runs Samba. Our NT users have a share on the Samba box that is
mapped by their NT profile. It contains their profile and personal file
storage. We are planning a move to Windows 2000. It will be in native
mode (no NT boxes, no WINS, no netbios). Can Samba handle authentication
with Win 2000? What version of Samba

i agree with Stefan. I have the same problem with Win2K Client and SAMBA
Server.
But on my situation i have one PC that i can make a connect and all the
other not.
Alle workstation are on the same group, are all in the same SubNet; but i
can?t see
my SAMBA _ Server so well like on this machine that is working.
So is there any other problems on SAMBA ?

Scientific notation?
Hi,
Would there be a function and/or some options to force R to write a value of
say 1.0e-4 as "0.0001"? More specifically I want to use R to write ASCII
file(s) for other programs to read and some of these programs don't know how
to deal numbers in scientific notation or have a different convention.

Rcmd ?
Hi,
I tried running Rcmd.exe to no avail. It doesn't even start because it tries
to read some memory address that NT says it can't and terminate.
I tried downloading and reinstalling rw1020sp.zip with the installer twice
just in case it got corrupted somehow in transport but it resulted in the
same problem.
What should I do?

Problems with Win XP/2000 and Samba 2.2.x
Hello everybody,
I have a little network at home with one Win98, one Win XP/2000 ?and two
Linux boxes. The Linux boxes are running on SuSE 7.3 and on one of them i
have the latest samba 2.2.2 installed. I use security=share on this
machine. The connection from the win98 machine works fine, I can read,
write and delete files on the share-volumes. When I try the same from the

Redrawing !
Hi,
If I may suggest that something be done to the window drawing function of a
plot. As it is now, we don't even have time to resize the window by a tiny
bit before it's invoke and I think it would be an improvement if while the
mouse is down the redrawing was delayed somehow. This is especially true
when the plot is crowded. I also observed that moving the plot window around
was a lot

Proxy-ARP on Same Segment
I have had to replace an existing setup which has a bunch of IPs
Proxy-NAT''ed onto the loc segment. While I do eventually want to move
them to their own segment, I have to deal with this for the next few weeks.
My problem is that from a loc system I can ping the public IP of a
system being proxy-ARP''d but I can''t hit it via HTTP. Nothing is being

Linux, Win 2000 & passwords

I'm a new Samba user, and despite reading books, man files and
web pages for a couple of days, I can't get my linux and win2k
machines hooked up. I have a Red Hat 9 machine that 'Len'
uses, and a win2k machine that 'Wendy' uses, that has internet
