can't browse network after changing networks
Hi I seem to have a recurring problem with browsing the network. I set up a file server in my workshop. It is mostly installed using a apt-proxy i have installed here. When i first install i use DHCP. Before i take the computer on-site i change the ip address to what it will use when installed into the clients office. The logs show that it is a master browser on the right subnet. I can access

NetBios name <1b> type record (Neighborhood browsing) !
Questions are about <1b> NetBios type record name for workgroup (for workgroup, not for node) . There is local subnet with Samba4 as DC (either Win NT or Win NT+) for mdom.net domain, and as following, there is mdom workgroup in neighborhood. But there are some other domain and/or non-domain workgroups in the subnet which Samba4 does not belong to. Is <1b> had to be registered by

browsing network neighborhood without broadcasting?
Hi, Is it possible to browse the network neighborhood without sending netbios packets to the broadcast address? I would imagine it could be done by manually specifying a central wins server on the lan -- is that the case? Specifically my concern is that dialup users (without an access filter to restrict broadcasts) will flood the network with broadcasts, affecting latency sensitive applications.

Samba4 as DC and Neighborhood browsing (nmbd functionality) !
At the moment if Samba4 acts as DC (domain controller) it doesn' t support neighborhood browsing, that is computers in a local group are not visible in network neighborhood. I have not been remaining think about working of the functionality. And have found this one: http://forge.univention.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=30132 I am not a programmer but may be it will be useful for easier and

OS X Clients Can't Create Sub-Directories
I'm running samba on a local linux server, with a bunch of shares. Over the last several years, this has worked perfectly in our heterogenous network of OS X and Windows. All my windows clients still work perfectly - my users can mount the samba shares and create, rename, move etc files and folders. However, recently (starting yesterday) my OS X clients are unable to rename any sub

Can't access DNS from RSAT
Daniel, I could kiss you :D I am using the default SSL certs in samba. I tried connecting to the new DC using it's FQDN instead of it's IP, and BAM, it connected just fine. Couldn't really tell you why, but as long as I can access it I'm happy! On Tue, Dec 12, 2017 at 11:20 AM, Daniel Carrasco <d.carrasco at i2tic.com> wrote: > Are you using the default ssl certs in

interdomain trust broken after upgrade to 4.1.17
Hi samba folks, I'm running an NT$-style samba PDC and 2 BDCs. They are all on samba 3.6.25 (the SERNET packages on debian wheezy) I have a domain trust with another server on another subnet, I think they run samba 3.5, also NT4-style domain. Everything ran fine, they can login to our machines and vice versa, winbind can resolve their usernames etc. Now I upgraded the PDC to debian jessie,

Samba 3.0 - User Changing His/Her Passwords
Hello all! We recently upgraded from Samba 2.2.3 to Samba 2.999+3.0.alpha20-3 on debian 3.0. Ever since then users are unable to change their own passwords on their W2k machine. What happens is when they try to change it a process (passwd) gets stuck with the users name. The only way to fix this is to kill the passwd process the user started. I haven't changed the "passwd chat"

Redhat 8 Samba+CUPS
Hi all. In the interest of using a more mainstream business distribution, I changed my faithful file/printserver over to Redhat 8.0 from Debian Testing. Now, my shared directories are working fine but printing is not working. I can browse to the printer using net view or Network Neighborhood in Windows or using smbclient -L in Linux but printing is not working. I've checked

UID/GID -> SID -> NAME mapping across multiple DCs
Apologies, despite that error, the permissions now look good on the sysvol folder. Is there anything I need to do moving forward to keep my DCs idmap.ldbs in sync? or is this a one time thing? Is it possible to map shares via Network Neighborhood?
We're running Samba 2.2.2 over an NT network. Our clients use Win95 (for the time being) and I wondered how we config Samba so they can map the shares using network neighborhood. We can map fine through MS-DOS, but when I try, for example, to map E drive to \\nfssrv\ads share via network neighborhood (where we ARE able to see the shares), it says E: is already connected to . Do you want

Can't access DNS from RSAT
Are you using the default ssl certs in samba?. I had a similar issue, and after create my own certificate with all common names used on my domain (for example domain.com, dc1.domain.com and dc2.domain.com), I'm able to manage the dns using RSAT using that named. With ip address still failing. Greetings!! El 12 dic. 2017 6:13 p. m., "Taylor Hammerling via samba" < samba at
