symbolic links seemingly not browseable
Hi all, I'm sure this is a quick fix, but I've not found the answer yet. On a fresh install of CentOS5, I need to use an alternate port for ftp. Currently vsftpd wants the standard port which is in use by another system on my NATted network. So...how does one go about reconfiguring vsftpd to do this? I've looked in /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf to no avail. In my Slackware days,

So, 1) can someone tell me HOW to make

Server not browseable with 3.0.8
I'm running samba on a Debian "testing" system. I previously had a working Samba 3.0.7, but upgraded recently to 3.0.8. The only differences between my /etc/samba/smb.conf and the version supplied by Debian in /usr/share/samba/smb.conf are the name of the workgroup, encrypt passwords = true, and I selected the lines for lprng-based printing. It used to work fine. I could browse

The shares are accessable though (when mapped to a drive letter or used as UNC). Ofcourse I tried to look for odd

Samba PDC and logon.bat questions
Hello, For some time now I have thought that Samba was a piece of cake to setup and thought making it a PDC and WINS server to boot, would not be much harder. Haha, I am finding out I was very wrong. First question: Since logon.bat is being processed by a windows client machine that has no idea what to do with Samba variables, how do you avoid having to create a separate logon script

Required Services for Samba?
When the world was young, "Ken Walker" <kwalker@island.net> carved some runes like this: > I have been working on setting up IP MASQ on my home network (using > RH6 as server with dial up modem connection and Win98 on another > computer as a client) and making some changes to services the Linux > box runs with security concerns in mind. How do CRUD and REST work for a wizard-style application?
I''m rewriting an application with the intention to use the elegant CRUD and REST design principles as outlined by DHH in his RailsConf Keynote[1]. The question is: how do you use those principles for an application that is of a sequential nature? The application works much like an MS Windows wizard: user begins at screen foo. After doing (or not) some stuff in screen foo, he is taken to

FairUse Wizard Doesn't See DivX Codec
Hi all at the Wine Forum. This is my first post so apologies if my question is foolish. I'm quite new to Linux and totally new to Wine. I'm running Wine under Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 and have installed FairUse Wizard 2.8 to see if it will run. It's the full version which was released for free earlier this year and I've been using it successfully in Windows XP. I want to dump Windows but

DNS wizard
Do we have anyone here who is a bind/dns wizard? I've been under the impression my dns setup which I've used for so many years on a bsd machine is now considered lame. If there is someone who would not mind taking a look at my configuration to see where I'm missing something, or where the difference lies between bind 9 and previous bind 8 configs? I'd prefer to do this off list
