Firewall transparancy?
Hi!
I was thinking, is there a way to use a linux box with Samba running in the
DMZ of a firewall and to validate logons from the internal network?
I.e. the users workstations are on the protected net on 192.168.111.xx and
the Samba PDC resides in the DMZ, running subnet 192.168.222.xx. If it's
possible, what ports need to be open?

routing pb? ping not "emerging"
Hi all,
i''m puzzled by a ploblem and I don''t know how to debug it...
I have a firewall with 2 gateways, adsl and isdn. Main gateway is via
adsl, backup via isdn. I setup 2 table ''adsl'' and ''isdn''. You can find a
description below.
I made a script to test both tables. That mainly

Dual ISP routing and NAT problem
Hello newsgroup,
I hope somebody with more routing experience then me can help me with
the problem I have.
The setup is as described below. A dual internet provider routing,
multiple local area networks, and a dmz network with one public and one
private ip range.
I followed the instructions at lartc.org, and so far everything is working.
The default route is via

Samba / CUPS / Drivers
I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to use different driver file
downloads for different printers on the system? As of what I can see in all
doc-files I can only use ONE set of drivers for all added printers?
F.x. I have one printer that is handled by CUPS' PPD system, and one printer
that uses RAW.
So, the first printer (PPD) should have its feed in postscript format from

Tree connect failed: ERRDOS - ERRnomem
I recently couldn't connect to a windowXP domain share from a winXP

server this is the error I got.

I can't figure out what's wrong with my config, I can see the share

Execute .exe files from a Samba share
Hi!
I'm experimenting with SuSE Linux and Samba 2.2.5 as a PDC, so far,
everything works perfectly well, aside from that if I store an .exe file on
a network mapped drive (from the Samba server) it can't be run?
The workstation is a Windows XP Pro SP1, connecting to the Samba running as
a PDC with LDAP backend. The machine and user logon works perfectly, but I
can't execute .exe

Pop-up messages to domain members?
Is it possible to send a pop-up message to all connected Windows stations in a
whole domain via one command, or is it necessary to send one message per
command to each station? It must be a command line utility since X isn't
running on the server.

Several logon script bat files?
I simply wonder if I can have several different logon script bat files for
MS Win users that validates through my Samba PDC?
Let's say that group "users" should have logon batch users.bat and the
members of the group "sales" should have both users.bat and sales.bat
executed at logon? Or can I in some way use ONE script with parameters that
knows about what groups the user

GhostScript for pdf generation..
But the question still stands, what IS the best quality printer driver to
use for GhostScript -> pdf printing? We need both colours and high
resolution..

Root user problems with Samba 3.0.0beta1
Hello
Anytime I try to do anything with the root user (like join the domain) or
run 'net user' or 'net group' with root, when I enter the correct
password, I get NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL ....
I've been trying more commands, and if I run tdbedit -e=tdbsam (to export
the smbpasswd to tdbsam style), I get this error :
tdb_update_sam: Failing to store a SAM_ACCOUNT for [root]

net use /home ?
Is 'net use x: /home' deprecated nowadays? I just upgraded a very old Samba 2 to 3.2.8 and suddenly no workstations at all can use that command to map to their home directories.
Workstations are W2k, Win XP and Vista in a mix. Neither work.
Samba use LDAP as back end, and the related posts in smb.conf are these:
logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U\.msprofile
logon script = login.bat
logon home

Getting rid of old network
I can't get rid of an old network I had configured on my Samba server,
it was PDC on two subnets, and one of those nets are now gone.
Still Samba tries to become PDC on the subnet (192.168.100.10).
So, in my logs I get hundreds of these messages;

Charset module could not load
Hello,
Everything I've tested so far regarding my Samba 3.0.0 beta 1 installation
works great, despite the following error:
Error loading module '/usr/local/samba/lib/charset/CP850.so': Cannot open
"/usr/local/samba/lib/charset/CP850.so"
This error comes up when I run any of the Samba binaries, such as

VPN hardware?
I have a NetGear FV318 living in my DMZ, with one of its LAN-ports
living in my LOC zone. What rules are needed in shorewall to allow a
certain subnet to make connections to this device from the net zone?
Do I define it as a tunnel in shorewall/tunnels, or do I just allow some
selected traffic to the DMZ IP? I am not sure which of the docs are
right for me in this case?

Logon Script Sometimes Does Not Execute
Hi,
I've been searching through the list archives on marc.theaimsgroup.com, and
haven't found many suggestions relating to this problem. What's happening,
is that maybe 5 out of 100 network logons the logon script does not
execute, and none of my drives are mapped. This happens on both NT 4.0
Workstations as well as Windows 2000. It's been happening as long as I can
remember

After Upgrading to rc4 (and still with 3.0.0) having Groupmap problems.
Hi,
Before Samba 3.0.0 RC4 I was running Samba 3.0.0 beta3, and when I
upgraded to RC4, I began having problems with group mappings. I didn't
notice at first, because on my laptop I don't normally log on to the
domain. I just noticed when I tried to use my desktop and log on to the
domain... I don't have Domain Admin privileges.
So, I look at 'net groupmap list' ... and it

Logon time restrictions?
Hiya all!
I've browsed to lots of doc. Files, but I can't find a good answer. Is it
possible to set logon time restrictions to users when Samba operates as a
PDC, controlling Windows XP Pro clients?
We're in the need to have different time restrictions based on user groups
as well as individual users.
Currently we run Samba v2.2.5, but will upgrade if needed.
