I just ran across this myself. I guess I dont understand why there needs to be machine names in /etc/passwd if you are storing everything in LDAP. Am I missing a configuration option here? Can one of you samba geniuses point me in the right direction please? Thank you! >I have exactly the same bug. Your original email was dated 24 May 2002 >so I can safely assume that either you

Add Workstation to Domain - valid local system user?
Hi! I'm running Samba 2.2.7a as Domain Controller, and when I try to add a workstation to the domain, I get always the following logentry (and the operation fails): [2002/12/20 14:30:21, 0] passdb/pdb_ldap.c:pdb_getsampwnam(859) LDAP search "(&(uid=vmware-w2ks_)(objectclass=sambaAccount))" returned 0 entries. no mapping between account names and security ids was done
I use a openLDAP database for authentication on my Redhat 7.2 server. The domain is "HOME". I have had no problem adding trust accounts and authenticating against it. Today I had to change the name of my Win2K workstation from poseiden to poseiden1 for compatibility with a package I am testing. Once I changed it and put in a new trust account, I could not rejoin the domain. I gave up and

Adding a machine; I think I am onto something
Parameters are: Samba 2.2.7a PDC setup with LDAP includeing posix authentication for Linux. OK, the tutorial I've based my setup on is the Mandrake tutorial found at http://www.mandrakesecure.net/en/docs/ldap-auth.php Works great for autenticateing Linux from LDAP but it is really sparse on the Samba side of things. Esepcially when it comes to adding machine trust accounts. So anyway I

PDC and BDC with LDAP and Samba 2.2.4
Hi, I'm trying to build a PDC and BDC to elimenate Windows NT on a network and have load balancing and fault tolerence for users. I've compiled samba 2.2.4 on two servers, working with openldap 2.0.23 with a master and a slave. Replication on LDAP servers works fine. I've set up a domain controller and wanted to set the other server as BDC in case the PDC goes down. Each time i put

SOLVED! PDC and BDC with LDAP and Samba 2.2.4
It's me again, with the solution to my problems. To get a working BDC, you have to kill samba, delete your secrets.tdb, create a MACHINE.SID and then restart samba. You will have to do this on the PDC and the BDC to have the same SID the the secrets.tdb file. Then machine account are valid even if you move your PDC, or you add a 2nd BDC, as long as you create the MACHINE.SID file before the

Add Machine Failed
I know I am getting tiresome to this list, but I can't see what I am doing wrong, which is obviously something. I am new to samba as far as setting it up as a PDC. I am not having trouble accessing sanba shares when I set my computer to be part of a workgroup, but when I try to configure samba server as a PDC, i get the following message: The account used is a computer account. Workstation xxxx$: no account in domain
hi, I've a problem with adding workstations to my samba/ldap pdc - if i add the workstation with win2000 to the pdc then the workstation gets registered in ldap with the following entry: (i am using smbldap-useradd.pl -w -d /dev/null -g computers -c 'Computer Account' -s /bin/false %u) which seems to me to be ok, but the workstation tells me that it couldn't get attached to the

WAS: Newbie: can't connect localhost:901 - help
Don't feel stupid. I'd guess you're using 2.4 kernel and not the 2.2 kernel? In 2.2 services default to using inet.d In 2.4 services default to using xinetd to start stuff. You need to go to /etc/xinet.d and make sure the file swat has a "disable=no" in it. As a matter of fact, for security purposes, I'd do a vi * in that directory (/etc/xinet.d ) and make sure

winbind wbinfo -t secret is bad
Quick run down of my setup: NT 4.0 PDC, Samba RedHat 8.0 with samba 2.2.5-10 on it.(Also used RedHat 7.2 with 2.2.6 final as well) with the exact same results. When I run wbinfo -t, I get Secret is bad 0xc000018b. I have been trying to figure this out for a few days now and can't get it working correctly. If I run wbinfo -u, all of the users appears in the list, as well when I run wbinfo
