high imap load on large folders
Hello, i sync with imapsync from an archiopteryx-server to an dovecot-server, for testing until now. The dovecot is inside an VM. storage for mail is on an nfs-share, indexes are local. What i now see, is, on large folder( 58000 messages and more) the load on the imap-process is very high, and slowdown the transferprocess. Is there something, I can do. Whats cause the high load ind the

Problem with Share Size
Hi all, I have a problem with samba : I can create files, but can't create directories. The server has many shares, on seperated disks. We consider two of them : one 2Tb share and one share with more than 7Tb. Samba configuration is good, and works on many other servers, and on this one except for the large share. Permissions are correctly setted up too. I can read/write files and

Really high load average. Config problem?
helo I am running samba on an 800 Duron / 640MB PC2100 DDR Ram / 40 GB IBM Deskstar with slackware 8 / 2.2.17 Optimized for Duron. Whenever I copy files to the server, my load average gets to be about 6.0-8.0! On the 700 Duron we have at the office where I work, (same specs except it has 768MB of SDRAM and a RAID Array). Would the reason my box runs so slow be because its swap drive and the

imap cores
Experts, (Now that I am able to run imap...) Here's what I am seeing with imap, it seems to die in the latest nightly. (tss, I am still trying to get dbx to work properly, maybe it won't, but I got some more details here.) ... 2 select "INBOX" * FLAGS (\Answered \Flagged \Deleted \Seen \Draft) * OK [PERMANENTFLAGS (\Answered \Flagged \Deleted \Seen \Draft \*)] Flags permitted.

Samba 4 slow write
Hello Ervin, The in-memory cache lookup could be added back into samba-4.1.6 by applying the attached patch, if it could be compiled with Louis how-to steps, perhaps got the chance to make U14.04 be stayed on samba-4. Here is my test, the test-bench is uploading 5000 files and each one is 1MB. The attached patch could improve 15% at case B). Case A) Original samba-4.1.6 will go through

Samba 4 slow write
Hi Jones, many thanks for your reply. Yepp, I'm using ACL's (Posix ACL's) on filesystem to regulate the access of users for files and directories. Do you mean that this is the "normal" way? These geteuid and getegid system calls are so slow? On the previous system (Debian Wheezy, Samba 3) I've also used ACL's, but there were much faster than this... What should

Load spikes on NFS server, multiple index updaters.
We are occasionally experiencing trouble where the NFS server's load will shoot over 60+. (Normal of sub 1.0). I have been hunting this for a while, and I believe it comes down to "deliver". System setup: NFS servers: x4540 Solaris 10 x64 ZFS over NFS. NFS clients: Solaris 10 x64 postfix-2.4.1 with dovecot-1.1.11 deliver. What appears to happen, when I check for nfsstat per

Out of memory need to restart system - Probably OT
Please specify the Samba version you are running - winbindd in 2.2.2 had a *big* memory leak which would certainly eat all your memory over three days on a moderately busy server. The more work winbindd does the more memory it chews - which might explain the end of day incidents. Try using 'M' in Top to get an idea of who is eating the memory. Noel There is no indication in TOP as to

Samba swamps the server's CPU
Hi. I'm running Samba 2.2.2 and Linux 2.4.7 on a dual PPro-200/256KB server. The relevant NIC is an Intel EtherExpress PRO/100+. The problem I'm having is that certain programs will swamp the server; the load will spike immediately to 50% (i.e., 100% on one CPU) and performance will, naturally, bite. Having another active connection to the server at the same time causes _monster_

Smbd using too much CPU
I recently got the problem that my smbd process takes up a lot of CPU (about 60%). It's running this high even if I don't access the server through my samba clients. I have tried restarting samba, rebooting the computer and I have been looking at several logs but I can't see what's wrong. It never seems to relax. I need to fix this as fast as possible because my CPU fan is running

Samba 4 slow write
Hi Jones, many thanks again four your help and your time. Thanks for the patch too - I'll check it up. On my Ubuntu, there is a Samba 4.1.6. I'll install the samba source package, and will try to apply the patch, then - I hope - the package will be compiled as well. I'll notify to you about the result. (First, I need to upgrade that server.) Thanks again, Ervin On Thu, Apr

3.6.10 file handle leak under ancient 32-bit kernel
Hello, I've come across a curious issue with Samba 3.6.10. When running 'emacs' version GNU Emacs 23.3.1 (i386-mingw-nt6.0.6002) of 2011-03-10 on 3249CTO on Windows Server 2008 SP2 x64 and issuing a file "revert" of one sort or another against a Samba-served file, the 'smbd' process leaks two or three handles. Eventually, when 16k handles are open, this causes

SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) with antispam plugin
Hi all. I am trying to get dovecot (1.0.rc17) running with antispam plugin. I have created another backend, which executes "sa-learn" from spamassassin's arsenal. The backend is modeled after sendmail backend. But I can't seem to get the plugin working wit either my backend or signature-log. This is my ".config": DOVECOT=/usr/src/dovecot-1.0.7 DOVECOT_VERSION=1.0
