Login scripts and Win9x clients
Hi all,
I have two systems using Win98 and one using Win95. These three systems do
not automatically execute their login scripts. I can map the network drives
manually and tell them to reconnect at login, but I am wondering why they
don't execute them. I can log in, browse to my netlogon share (if I make it
browseable), and execute the script manually, and it works. Well, it mostly

What group is CPB\unix_group.2147483404?
Hi,
What's does a group like 'CPB\unix_group.2147483404' mean? I get al sorts of
group when I run the following kix-script that are recognizable and some
that are not. Why?
running samba-2.2.3a with domainname CPB.

degraded performance under domain login load
Hi guys,
Not sure how to diagnose this problem however i have recently
upgraded one of my schools sites from gentoo to freebsd which moved
us from samba 3.0.14 to 3.0.21b and the first thing I noticed was
when the students came to login if they all logged in at once the
performance of login was crippled to a near standstill!
As a test i swapped in the gentoo box and forced the upgrade to

Home directories in samba 3.0.6
Hello all
Just in case anyone has similar problems:
We have a kixtart script which maps folders for users, I am not sure
where it happened, but I made a mistake with users home directories. A
couple of users were not copied from our old 2000 server during the move
to samba and so were created manually. This worked fine with
/homes/user, but since the upgrade to 3.0.6 some users have failed to

Logon Script
Hi,
Is [netlogon] only applicable for Samba Domain Controllers? I like to
create use root preexec script to create home folders for first time
users. I'm currently running ADS mode, and using KiXtart logon script.
Would this work?

Creating Custom System Policy Templates
Has anyone looked into creating custom templates for Microsoft's System
Policy editor ? I like the idea of managing workstations through the
NTConfig.POL file, but the included templates are quite a bit outdated.
Does anyone know if it would be worth-while to take the time and create an
updated Template to add policies to manage newer features of Windows
2000/XP through the NTConfig.POL

Thank you! Upgrade from Novell 4.11 is complete
I just wanted to write to you guys and thank you for all of your help and
hand-holding as I upgraded our company's file server from a Pentium 200mmx
running Novell 4.11 to a nice P4 server running Linux and Samba 3.0.9. It
took from September to the end of December to accomplish it, but I have
gotten compliments from several users about how smooth the transition was.

samba banner string
Hi list!
I need your expertise.
How do I do to rid of the banner "SAMBA 3.0.14a on debian on sarge
(pdcsrv)"
I can see that when I use the M$ server tools and I've tried to rewrite the
string but when I click "ok" the string still the same, what I mean is that
no matter what I write there it doesn't change.
I use JXplorer to navigate throw my ldap

KIX script
Hi,
We are testing AD migration and have come across an issue with login script. The current (pre-ad) login scripts is located in /home/samba/netlogon and the login script is KIX32.exe.
Post the migration, we copied the contents of the /home/samba/netlogon to /var/lib/samba/sysvol/lin.group/scripts. When the users (both standard users and domain admins) login, the login script (KIX32)

Adding a second server, SIDs in security tab?
Hi everyone.
I added a new server a few days ago to an existing Domain Controller
cluster that
has been working fine for over a year.
(Debian Linux, DRBD, Linux-HA, etc.)
This server is just being used for more space, basically.
Users log in normally and map a drive to this new server and all seems
to be well.
This server is mapped in a kixtart script to G: and the 'main' server is

Logon script change failure
I've got a bunch of servers which for a long time now have provided
domain logon scripts of the form %u.bat or %m.bat I've recently
created a more capable logon script in Kixtart and have changed smb.conf
to launch it for all users as just logon.bat So no more per-machine or
per-user scripts, everybody runs the same one, and inside it it does
per-machine and/or per-user things. At maybe

list of users in Win9x
Hi!
I recently installed the Samba 2.2.0apha2 package. Almost everything works
fine except that the Win95 clients can't make user-level shares of their
directory.
On the windows box, in the Network Control Panel - Access Control tab I set
the user-level access control, and confirmed the NT domain (Samba is the
PDC).
Everything looks fine till now. I open the MyComputer window, and try to
