Printer: User Intervention Required - Use Printer Offline
For some reason, I cannot get samba (or Win98, depending on how you look at it...) to allow a win98 client to print. I search the list archives, but I didn't find anything similar. So here goes. Symptoms: - Win98 client can access fileshares OK. The printers show up OK as well in network neighbourhood. - On Linux, printing (lprng) works OK. - In win98, e.g. dir >

Print filters when sending jobs to windows printer?
Well, I finally managed to setup samba printing... almost. smbprint seems well and good... if you have a postscript printer, which I don't. So, I just see stair-stepping, raw postscript on the win98 box printer I'm sending to. I've configured magicfilter to handle postscript with gs, but I'm having trouble integrating magicfilter with smbprint. I'm not much of an expert on

adding printers from netlogon script
I don't know the final answer BUT if you have something simmilar to a cyber-cafe LAN (I mean, users use all the computers, and maybe some users come back to login with the same name) then you have to install a printer only once in a computer, loging as the administrator and installing drivers. Then what users will have to do is JUST add the printer without installing. I know that it's

Null PrinterName
Hi, I'm running Samba 2.0.4b on a Debian Linux (v2.2) PC. If I look at the "log.smb" file there are many messages: Attempt to locate null printername! Internal error? We have a number of print queues defined and they work fine. Here is a portion of the /etc/printcap: ================================================= # # Copyright (c) 1983 Regents of the University of California.

T100P -- data?
Hi, all. I'm thinking of provisioning my (non-PRI) T1 to be part data, part voice (currently, it's only voice). With the T100P, how do I get it to "do" data? Just load up the HDLC module, and it gets an IP address? Or...? I tried RTFM'ing, but there just doesn't seem to be much on it (leastwise, that's readily findable). Thanks much, Ken D'Ambrosio

Polycom dhcpd.conf? [Or, "Some day, I'll figure this all out."]
I'm RTFM'ing, but I can't figure out how the dhcpd.conf file specifies the boot server, and how it differentiates between whether it's FTP or TFTP. I've tried option 66/next-server, and option 150, to no avail. And the docs just don't -- leastwise, in the way I'm reading them -- make sense. I've checked the admin guide, I've checked the wiki... no dice.

Printer Problem
I have been using Samba as a print server successfully for quite some time. I have one issue that I can't seem to solve. We use a crappy piece of accounting software that requires the printer be set up with spool settings as: Start printing after last page is spooled. If start printing immediately is set, the checks do not print correctly. On a Windows computer, if I go to

Connecting Samba 3.0 to a Win 2003 domain
Hi, Just rejoined the list after many happy years of using samba in a production enviroment. I'm having problems getting my head around samba 3.0, or specifically, the UID/GID/SID mapping. I've been RTFM'ing but am still uncertain about the best way to go... I have a Win 2003 controlled ADS domain with five thousand users and just over a thousand groups. Users and groups (users and

convert_string_allocate: Conversion error: Incomplete multibyte sequence
Hi all, I have installed samba on aix. I am trying to integrate with the ADS using winbind. I am able to join domain and retrieve the users and groups from the ADS. ancient directx version support
What is the status of support for directx2 apps? The "failed to create surface" error in MissionForce: Cyberstorm seems to have persisted forever... I have a +relay log of the said game launch session, (if somebody wants it, i can provide the full version) -- it appears that the graphics backend call pair which causes trouble is to winex11.drv.GetDCEx()/

Cannot enable "Enable advanced printing features"
Hi all. I'm trying to use Samba to replace an old Windows print server, and everything works just like a charm - almost... There's one thing, which prevents my organization from accepting this new printerserver, and that is that I'm unable to activate and save the "Enable advanced printing features" setting for the printers - this is used to allow for printing multiple

postscript printing
Hi there, For postscript printing, if the print server is on a Linux (Unix) box, I've very good experiences with 'MagicFilter'. This turns your spooler into a universal and flexible printer. Of course for postscript you need to have Ghostscript installed... Kees

postscript printing on W95 client
Hi there, If the printer is connected to a W95 box the following information may help. 1) read the shell script '/usr/local/samba/smbprint', it provides info on how to setup the configuration files 2) install ghostscript, portable bitmap utils etc 3) install 'Magicfilter', it may need all of '2)' 4) modify the (last) lines in 'smbprint' to something like: (

Possible setClassUnion Unloading Issue
I'm encountering a problem caused by class unions from unloaded packages that are referenced by the still-loaded subclasses. In essence, when the class union is loaded initially, it registers itself as a super class of the component classes in the S4 cache. When the package the class union lives in is unloaded, it does not undo that registration. Here is an MRE of the problems it causes:

NetportExpress print box

Hi, try add a next two parametres to your printcap: rm - machine name or IP for remote printer/printerserver rd - remote printer name argument - raw, lpt etc. For example :

Printserver and Passwords
Hallo, I must install a separatly printerserver for our PCs, a sun with solaris 2.5. The Win95/98-PCs connect the server with samba (1.9.18p10). The server shall not ask for a password if somewhere connect the printservices. But the server allways ask for passwords, not only at the first time. This Problem is only for win95, win98 works ok. Here my smb.conf: [global] printing = sysv

AW: Samba 2.2.8a :: High CPU usage and Printer
No, I don't.. I'm sorry I wasn't that clear in my last mail. I'm running Samba only as file server. I haven't installed a printer so far on Samba. The printers are installed on the Windows 2000 server. This server is a Domaincontroller, File- and Printerserver. My problem is that any other pc has normal traffic rates to the samba server, but the server is very slow. One

9x/NT/2000 clients with security=server
Hi, I have a problem authenticating users using samba-2.0.6/Solaris 7 (sparc ultra-1), using the security=server option. We want to have a single print-server for both the UNIX and Windows clients on our network. The windows machines authenticate user using an NT4-domain. I've setup samba so that it always runs as user 'lprsmb' used to print to the UNIX-printserver with a wrapper

Printing: Access denied, unable to connect
I have been having a printing problem recently on a setup that has worked for quite some time. Configs below. The symtoms are slightly different on a W2K and a WinME workstation, but the result is the same; no printed output. However, when I print from the local Unix server or from any other Unix server in the network the output is as expected. The W2K machine reports 'Access denied,
