Testing process?
Morning all! Total newbie question. I'm learning Dovecot and will be
plugging in a few things and testing it end to end. What test structures or
tools are available for making sure the install is correct and the
parameters are taken?
Thanks!

SIG - Hardening
Dear All,
About a week ago; I posted a proposal over on the centos-devel mailing
list, the proposal is for a SIG 'CentOS hardening', there were a few of
the members of the community who are also interested in this. Therefore,
I am extending that email to this community; where there is a larger
community.
Some things that we will like to achieve are as follows:

MS-Client
Hi!
I use MS-Client for pre-Windows 95 computers to use shares on my Linux
boxes, but also to serve their disks to everyone else.
This used to work, but I gradually upgraded and problems arose.
This afternoon, I wanted to use smbclient to access a share on the
Dos-computer, it gave listings of what was there, but I couldnt retrieve
any file. Mounting didn't work either, because I still had

[CentOS 6] Possible bug in updating glibc?
Hey all, not sure if this was operator error or what.
I'm running a KVM host on updated CentOS 6. The guest is built from the
CentOS 6.9 dvd1 with just @base and @core package groups.
When I went to install mysql it failed due to incompatibilities with the
libcc versions. Updated just glibc and glibc-common and then installed
mysql. Shortly there after it started to freeze and lost

SAMBA setting file permissions
I'm pretty sure this is a SAMBA issue.
I have a strange problem when changing permissions on a file (ex.
index.html) through Windows on a SAMBA share.
For example: All user files are accessed through SAMBA
Through W2K, I set the permission on my index.html file so that only the
user has read/write and nothing for group and Everyone.
Now this should break my web page, but to my surprise it

Mounting shares across unix->unix systems
Samba,
Can someone please detail how one would permanently mount samba shares
between two unix boxes so as to emulate (or replace) NFS. I know you can do
it temporarily with smbclient but isn't that just the same as using an ftp
client ?
I am keen to benchmark samba's performance versus NFS on my system as we do
a lot of cross workstation communication (unfortunately all on one switched

I am very interested.
One of my suggestions:
Firewall:
Network based firewall zone assignment (possibly disabling interface based assignment)

Setting file permissions through SAMBA
I've tried the samba lists but have not gotten any response for my
problem. This looks to be a bug.
All our user files are accessed through SAMBA on our main file servers, one
is Linux RH7.2 and the second one is a Solaris system running Solaris
8. The problem we're seeing is that when some one creates a file for their
web page, they have to set the permission on the file to rw for

Regain play analysis patches
Hi all,
In the last couple of months, there have been two proposed patches for
the regain play analysis code.
The first by Nathan Rennie-Waldock:
http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/flac-dev/2011-December/003070.html
simply adds some more higher sample rates.
The second by Earl Chew:
http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/flac-dev/2012-January/003067.html
is more comprehensive. Neither of the

I agree. We will add it as it is and then tweak futher as needed.
Earl, would you be able to update your patch so that it applies
against the current git master?
Cheers,
Erik

Lost root access
So on a virtual server the root password was no longer working (as in
I couldn't ssh in anymore). Only I and one other know it and neither
of us have changed it. No other account had the correct privileges to
correct this so I'm wondering, if I had mounted that vdi as a
secondary device on another VM, browsed the file system and delete
/etc/shadow would this have wiped all users passwords
