Sol 2.8 - Samba 222- --with-pam compile errors
Hi
I'm attempting to compile samba 222 on Solaris 2.8 using Sun Forte 6 C
compiler but I'm getting error messages.
I used the following sequence of commands:
setenv CC cc
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/samba.22 --with-acl-support --with-pam
--with-pam_smbpass --with-syslog
make

Debian and dovecot
I have Debian 3.0 (woody) and installed the dovecot packages and it works ok
with the default configuration. I want to change the default configuration,
is any of this possible?
a) I don't want to create accounts for each user, can I have a mailboxes
directory with the mailboxes of all the users? They are not many (10-15).
b) The authentication right now is done through PAM, the

hi !
i have a problem with ldap+pdc too, and since no one answered ingo's
request, i will try again.
this is my setting:
i want to maintain a central authentification for my small but mixed
(debian/linux vs w2k) network
i am using debian:samba-2.2.3a; compiled it with ldapsam enabled.
i am using openldap2-2.0.23; compiled it with TLS enabled

ldap authentification suddenly fails partially
hi !
my systems started to behave weird today.
i am running a debian/linux-fileserver (woody/2.4.18) that exports the
user-homes and acts as a PDC via samba (2.2.4 --with-ldapsam) to my
windoze-clients (w2k/nt).
i am using ldap as authentification database.
everything worked like a charme, until today.
suddenly some users cannot authenticate against the windoze-machines any
more.

small problem: password expiration
hi !
sorry for posting this question, i think it is an easy one, but i cannot
get the answer myself.
i am using samba-2.2.3a + ldap running on a debian system with w2k-clients.
now the problem is: everytime i log into my w2k-client, i get something
like "your password expires today! would you like to change it ??"
well, i do not really want to change my password everytime i log in,

i am trying to add my laserprinter (HP2200d) to the samba-shares so that
my windos-users can print..
unfortunately this will not work
i have read the documentation -- unfortunately it still does not work...
i am using samba-2.2.4 (with LDAP-support) on a woody-system.
furthermore i am using cups-1.1.15
to be precise: the "cupsaddsmb" does not work correctly

pam_smbpass
Okay - I've got samba working as a PDC with and ldap backend.
I want to have some users not be in ldap (like the built in stuff like
cyrus, mail, lp etc)
I can get that to work with the pam_ldap and pam_unix but pam_smbpass
doesn't seem to return user_unknown as i expect for users who are not in
the ldap database
does this make sense?

R package that has (much) the same capabilities as SAS v9 PROC GENMOD
I need capabilities, for my data analysis, like the Pinheiro & Bates
S-Plus/R package nlme() but with binomial family and logit link.
I need multiple crossed, possibly interacting fixed effects (age cohort of
twin when entered study, sex of twin, sampling method used to acquire twin
pair, and twin zygosity), a couple of random effects other than the cluster
variable, and the ability to

In the beginning, there was mud...
A couple of days ago, I was given the task of replacing a mail server -- old
hardware, network topology changes, and personnel changes led up to this.
Now, the actual swapout of a mail server is relatively straightforward and
(somewhat) easy to do. But this one had a wrench -- I had to authenticate
off of an NT4 domain. There were some other, smaller, wrenches as well, but

pam_smb authentication
I am appending some documentation by my colleague Bill Eldridge that was
actually written for our dial-up service, but should work for you
purposes as well. A couple notes.
1.)The user must exist in /etc/passwd on the Samba machine or login to
the Samba box will fail.
2.)In the example, we don't set up home directories for the users, we
are using it for dial in and they usually want to

PAM/winbindd/smb_pass/pam_smb_auth/smb_ntdom to authenticate SSH
Hello,
I'm currently running winbind (from Samba 2.2.3a) so that our
Windows users can ssh into our Linux box. I've set up Samba,
PAM and winbind, and it's working well. Users can see their
files, and they can log in using their windows usernames. No
problem.
When users access their Samba share, they don't need
to reauthenticate, because they've already done so with

smbpasswd + ldap questions
I would like to have sync'd Unix and Samba passwords. My Unix passwords
are stored in OpenLDAP for uniformity across machines and services. I
have some problems with the standard solutions to this problem though:
* if I have Samba authenticate from OpenLDAP directly (using the
smbPassword attribute), then I get sync'ing problems when the password
is changed via normal Unix means. We

NT_LOGON_FAILURE setting up a Linux BDC
Hi,
We're trying to set up a Red Hat 9 box as a BDC for a domain, the PDC for that
domain is another RH9 machine. To do it we're using samba 2.2.7a and openLDAP
2.0.7 in both machines. We've followed the instructions from the Samba-PDC-Howto
and Samba-BDC-Howto from the samba.org. The PDC works fine but when I try to
list the shares of the BDC using my user I get a NT_LOGON_FAILURE

Orphaned rsync process on remote machine?
All,
Sometimes when I do an rsync, it times out and leaves on orphaned
process on the remote machine. I am running rsync over ssh using
public key authentication. I synchronize about twenty-five machines,
and this problem only appears on one of them. It worked until
recently on this machine. I don't know what changed or what is
different.
I run rsync with a command line like this

Channel Mapping Family for Ambisonics
Hello Tim and others,
Thanks for your help explaining this process on IRC. I wrote out a
first draft in the RFC xml format. I have attached the xml (labeled as
xml.txt so it will appear inline) and the rendered txt files. Please
let me know where I can make improvements. I will upload this draft to
the IETF datatracker and send it out to codec@ after addressing your
comments.

Tim,
Would you mind giving me a more specific example of the sort of document
that you think this should look like? I'd like to write up something that
is somewhat final.
