Samba connection problem btw RH7.3 and WinME
Hi All Guys,
I just join this list
I am going to experiment a crossover connection
between a WinME box and a RH7.3 Box. The setting of
WinME is without problem. It can communicate with
another WinME box or a WinXP box with crossover
connection. I don't use password to login in both
boxes
I have Samba-2.2.3a running on a RH7.3 box
#service smb start/stop
Everything OK without complaint

samba, RH7.3 and windows NT/2K/XP problem?
Hi,
We have a couple of RH7.3 systems. Both have samba installed and they
were running well before. Now, one system's samba shows a problem after
the system rebooting yesterday. Samba is still running and all windows
95, 98 users can access this RH7.3 system without any problem, but
windows NT/2000/XP users cannot access it now. Before the rebooting, all
windows (including nt/2k/xp)

Help in Password Server
Hello,
i need help because my samba server is not working.
I have a Samba TNG server which SUCCEEDS in authenticating all users stored
in a LDAP Directory. They (admins before me) installed in a RH7.3 Box the
rpms of Samba HEAD 2.2.3a which *sholud* make available some shares (e.g.
users' home) while authenticating against the TNG. The previous version of
Samba HEAD did work but since its

HDD duplication in RH7.3
Hi Folks,
I have an internal HDD running under RH7.3. I would like to purchse a second HDD(usb external) of same geometry, and use it as a bootable snapshot of the first internal HDD.
I wish to make a whole disk bootable backup regularly via this method.
Is this feasible ?
How should I approach this ?
Any advice and/or documentations are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Large Configuration question
Hi all,
Our company is contemplating moving all our file
server services from Novell to a Samba implementation
on HPUX, using HP's CIFS/9000 product. CIFS/9000 is
essentially Samba with a nice installation package
wrapped around it.
I have several concerns about this, partially about
HP's setup and claims about Samba, and partially about
moving everything from 40 Novell to 1 Samba

SMB: : ver 2.2x vs 3.0 vs tng (diff's)?
OK: First, please respond to me directly, as I'm not on the
TNG
list.
Here's the situation:
I will be setting up a "computer lab" for 30-40 PC's with
various users (students).
Here are my needs:
1) One Touch (point) User administration
(the simpler the better)
2) Simplest set of LINUX SW possible
3) NO NT PDC
4) All clients are W2K.

PDC migration from samba-tng to samba 3
Hello,
I have inherited a samba-tng PDC (without ldap) that I am to upgrade to
samba 3. My first attempt failed miserably. I copied over the smbpasswd
and the domain SID, users were able to log in, but most were not able to
load their profiles.
I think I have to copy over machine IDs, but I'm not sure how to
proceed. The migration section of the the howto doesn't seem to apply to

samba-3.0rc1 Can access PDC but not others
Hello,
I am trying to migrate an NT domain from an NT PDC to a samba3.0 PDC
without disrupting users or requiring them to change passwords, etc. The
complication is that there are NT fileservers in the domain already, so
it's important that the users be transferred to the samba machine with
SID's and RID's intact (so they can access these shares with the same
permissions).

Want to contribute to SAMBA Doc : NT,PDC, Problems, etc...
Hi all,
Like certainly many members of those lists (SAMBA's list), I would like to
contribute to SAMBA project. The main reason is because when you write
something you must absolutely be familiar with the subject. It will give me
oportunity to be (more) familiar with some kinds of SAMBA Spec.
Since I read samba mailling list, many questions are post about SAMBA PDC,
BDC, etc, interaction

Samba 2.2.7a as PDC with LDAP: c000019b error code
Hello!
I've run into a strange problem with samba-2.2.7a. I compiled it with
--with-ldapsam on a Debian/Woody box, set up openLDAP 2.0.23 with all users
and machine trust accounts and configured samba to using LDAP and being a
PDC. Works ok so far, users may authenticate and use their shares.
But they can not *always* log into the domain from NT4.0 workstations.

Problems switching from a samba 2.2.2 pdc to 2.2.7 pdc
Hi folks,
today I tried to switch from a samba 2.2.2 PDC to a samba 2.2.7 PDC.
Everything semed to be working fine with smbclient.
Windows user couldn't log on, but with following differences:
* users belonging to the domain admin group could log on from Win2k boxes
* normal users couldn't log on from win2k boxes, with the usual "check if you

having problems with prf*.tmp files and samba pdc
hello list,
i use samba 2.2 with roaming profiles and windows xp/2000. when windows
client logs in into domain and downloads the profile, i get often the
"access denied" error, if windows downloads a new file.
as i found out, windows downloads a file first as a prf<something>.tmp file
and then renames it and that failes because access is denied then.
i tried to add a line veto

tng pdc, samba 2.2.8a fileserver
I'm using an ldap-backed TNG PDC for domain logins with no problem.
I've got a samba 2.2.8a fileserver that doesn't seem to correctly map
usernames to domain SIDS. It is passing authentication requests to the
PDC correctly, and allows users to map non-public shares, write to their
home directories, etc. When a file's "security' attributes are viewed in
windows explorer,

Browsing problems with Samba 2.0.5 on HP-UX and WinNT4.0SP4
We're *****very happy***** samba users in an environment where:
3 HP-UX 10.20 9000/700 ws act as servers for about 35 Win95/NT
clients. Just upgraded to 2-0-5a: much performance for clients with
very very low ws load. Great. There is one ws acting as main server
offering disks via NFS to the other two, and there is a central samba
configuration area where we use the machine name to

AW: Samab and a NT4.0 PDC
Actually i should rephrase that.
Samba works fine, but what do I put down as `valid users'? certainly I can't
use %U like with the template homedir.
Any suggestions?
Tia,
Cheers,
