Re: smb_panic() in name_len()
Hi Andrew,
Also the problem only exists when the share is accessed by hostname (not IP
address), the hostname is something like 'smb-share'.
Thanks in advance,

AW: Samba - NT ACL implemented by Unix Posix ACL via Samb a
I'm not an expert on that, but did you tried the following settings on
smb.conf for your share :
admin users = NTDOMAIN+Administrator
valid users = .....
I think this is necessary to use ACL with samba and ntdomain...

Creating computer account
Hi,
Can anybody confirm that I must have a user account of the AD who has rights to add a machine to the domain when joining Samba as a domain member in AD mode?
Say, when I run command kinit USERNAME@REALM, USERNAME must be a user who has rights to do that.
I got the information above from the HOWTO of Samba-3.
While I found when I join a Win2000 workstation to a AD, I only need a common user

Authentication via both domain controller and local Sambapassword file
Try setting auth methods = sam winbind. IIRC when in domain
authentication auth methods does not include users in the local sam, but
my knowledge could be based upon an older version of samba, so you'll
have to try it out.

Problem getting share list from NetApp
We defined a share, sales_cifs_test, on our NetApp server. Note that the
length of the name is longer than 13 characters.
We can see the share with Microsoft Explorer.
We can mount the share from Linux using smbmount.
What we want to do is to get a list of shares from NetApp. The tools
that can do this are the samba programs smbclient and net.
Smbclient will not show names longer than 13

Too slow to open shares.
More information:
When I try to access the share by "smbclient //server_ip_address/share_name
-d 10" from another Linux box, I saw some errors(warnings?) like
"Doing spnego session setup (blob length=16)
server didn't supply a full spnego negprot"

I'm trying to make a ices/icecast streaming radio with encoding from
soundcard. I did a lot of googling and couldn't find any docs other then
icecast/ices docs, that are included in the source packages. Are there
any other docs that i should read? Is there a howto outthere somewhere?

A room full of Cisco 7960s behind NAT
I need to set up an office full of Cisco 7960 phones behind NAT with the
server out in Colo.
The first test phone registers fine, but the second one does not register.
The first phone's registration looks like so:

When the second phone tries to register, it gets back a 404 not found. Not

NMBD shutting down problem
Hi,
I use a samba 3.0.2a server on a Linux Mandrake 10.0.
This morning, I found the nmb daemon shut down
with the following message in the nmbd log file :
[2004/07/03 20:39:53, 0] nmbd/nmbd.c:reload_interfaces(263)
reload_interfaces: No subnets to listen to. Shutting down...
Over the web, I found many questions about this problem but no real answer.
Any idea or precision about this. It is a

Samba panic in encoding
Hi,
Urgent help is needed ..
I just upgraded Samba2.2.8a to Samba3.0.1rc1, but the fold I created before
on a share can not be accessed anymore. Say, there is a folder "??folder"
with some German characters ), it can be accessed in Samba2.2.8a; but it
can NOT be accessed in Samba3.0.1rc1, it says 'The folder was moved or
removed" on a Win2k client. I understand the reason

cacti on centos
Hi all,
I'm trying to get Cacti installed on my CentOS 4.3 x86_64 box. I've
got all of required packages installed, and created database file, and
followed all the instructions in install manual.
However, when I get login screen and use admin for username/password,
it simply redirects me straight back to login screen. Looking at
user_log table, the authentication was

cmml is about metadate/annotations, how can it be replaced
by KATE ( which is mainly about subtitles as far as i can see?

Can we get Local Group from domain controller?
Hi, Samba Guru :)
I installed samba 2.2.3a under Redhat 7.2 for Intel platform. But when I
use 'wbinfo -g' to get group list from domain controller, I can get
global group name list only, my question is can I get the local group
name list on domain controller too? Or I have to change the source code
to do that or it is a limitation of the winbind?
Thanks in advance.

Winbind problem when heavy loaded ...
Hello, Sambas,
Recently, I met a problem with my Samba 2.2.3a server.
It is configured as a Domain Member, sometimes I couldn't get user list
from PDC ( a Win2k server), but it come up again soon , say 5 seconds.
I had thought it is PDC's problem, but it seems PDC is fine. Are there
any other reasons will cause that?
Some log messages attached.

Question about default ACL
Hello samba guys and XFS guys,
I am now using Linux-2.4.5-1.0.1_XFS and Samba 2.2.2.
Try to create a samba share on a XFS volume, for example, we create a
directory named 'public', and set its default acl on 'public' as
'u::rwx,g::rw-,o::r--,m::rwx', . Under Linux box, try to create a file
named 'file_linux' under directory 'public', On Samba client (Win2K)

Samba - NT ACL implemented by Unix Posix ACL via Samba
Hi,
Hopefully some Samba gurus are interested in some of my questions about
Samba ACL this is more in technical detail.
1. Why Samba always think the owner always has 'READ' access right on
a file, 'READ and WRITE' access rights on a directory? I checked the code of
posix_acls.c, those bits are OR-ed by default
2. Try to create a folder via the Samba Win2k

intel dual core processors and new kernel packages
I've just got bunch of RHEL4 erratas (looks like U2 is out). Looking at the
kernel errata (kernel-2.6.9-22.EL), one of the things in list of new features
is "Intel dual core support".
What does this exactly means? Does it mean if I have dual core pentium
processor and use older kernel that it will use only one core, and I need newer
kernel to use both cores? Or is it only
