Canon multifunction printers / samba 3.0.2a / AIX 5.2ML2
Hello, I have problems setting up a canon multifunction ir7200. When I print the windows test page, I have something like "smiley" "arrow" "arow" "smiley" "arrow" name_of_the_samba_spool "smileys" driver.dll etc, etc, etc, on a single line. Did somebody used such a multifunction with Samba ? Below is a (long) description of what I did. I

new feature in 2.2.6 ?
Hi Jerry et al, will the 2.2.6 release show the printers in the 'add-new-printer-wizzard' on the client like the WINDOWS server do ? I'm not sure if you know what I mean, so here is a little illustration: ----------------------------- | NTSERVER | | \\ntserver\printer1 | | \\ntserver\printer2 | | \\ntserver\printer3 | | SAMBASERVER |

smbd/password.c:domain_client_validate(1604)
All, we have a SAMBA server set up that has been working great for everyone in the corporate office, not to long ago I connected one of our foreigh offices to us through a VPN. All of our users authenticate to our PDC, our users in our foreign office, who is on the same domain but we have them on a different subnet, are not able to gain access to the SAMBA shares, here in the corporate office.

Win98 clients accessing Samba file server.
HI All I'm in the process of setting up my first Linux box at work, a basic file server for all 20+ Win clients (I'm sick of paying M$ CAL) all have a 'home' directory and all share a 'shared' directory. What my problem is, everything is working OK with WinXP/2000 I can see the shared directory and our own home directory on the Samba box. With Win98 I can only see and

WINS-Server != PDC ?
Hello, I have tried to find that info, but couldn't yet find it in TOSHARG or "Samba-3 By Example" : A client has one NT-PDC running without WINS-service and a Samba-Domain-Member-Server that is currently the WINS-Server. I have > [global] > workgroup = MYWG > netbios name = MAIL > interfaces = eth* lo > map to guest = Bad User > security = domain

Printing using a different NT account
We are having a problem printing from a Sun machine to NT using Samba. The NT admins would like us to use an account other than the Guest account for printing so that they can disable the Guest account. The printer scripts have been changed to add the -U UNIXPRT option, but no matter what syntax we try to use, the -U option is ignored and the connection is made via the Guest account. I have

no access by set as NT Domain Member
Hallo... I use Suse Linux 8.0 with Samba 2.2.7a in a Network with WinNT 4.0 PDC and W2000 Clients. Samba is set as Domain Member with security = Domain. I join Samba to the Domain successfully. So existing users can be validate by WinNT Server. Make Linux user as NT user and fill in File "smbusers" admin = Admin, hans = Hans. Test Samba via smbclient on Server. ...but if I click on the

Auth. failing - Update - NSSwitch
Thank you Andrew, you pointed me in the right direction. Part of what I m doing to try to get Netatalk to authenticate through Winbind was the following: 4) to install Winbind files: cp nsswitch/libnss_winbind.so /lib # this is the major one - solaris nss is different to linux. ln -s libnss_winbind.so nss_winbind.so.1 cp nsswitch/pam_winbind.so /lib/security Once I deleted /lib/libnss_winbind.so

Using SMB for web authentication
Hello, I have apache web server running on unix system. Then we have lots of users who only have accounts on our NT-domain. I'd like to do user&group authentications from our NT-domain using samba/SMBlib to do the actual authentication. Now does anyone know if there are already such systems available? What I'd like to do: 1) User connects to web page http://web/xyz. 2) He/she gets

Performance Samba 2.0.6 / FreeBSD 3.4 vs NT and NetWare
I'm getting samba setup, and it seems to be working. I have PDC/BackupPDC issues to resolve, and want to change things so the NT PDC authenticates users instead of setting them up using smbpasswd. Right now, I can access the samba box from Win98 and WinNT workstation with "manually setup" smbpasswd's. I have been testing performance and am a little disappointed, I hoped samba

Auth. Failing... Update - NSSwitch
Yes. Try checking the PAM setup. I have to assume when you say that you can't log in via something obvious like telnet, you mean that Windows users can't log in. If your Unix users can't telnet in, you have bigger problems. :) The PAM stack is what controls the logging in of Windows users to Unix services like telnet. There is a document which describes the installation of winbindd,

Diagnosis Tests - Failed #5
I'm working on the first of a few Samba machines for our network. It's running RedHat 6.2 and Samba 2.0.7. On the NT 4.0 side of things I can see the machine (with the correct name) if I do NET VIEW or look in the Network Neighborhood. However, when I do "NET VIEW \\SambaServer" I get an Error 5 Access Denied. (Test 8) So I started on the diagnosis and got to Item 5. When I

Changing printer properties caused infinite loop (samba-2.2.7, cups-1.1.16, Solaris 2.8)
Hi, we have a samba printserver 2.2.7 with cups 1.1.16 with about 15 HP Printers. The samba server runs under Solaris 2.8 and is a member of a NT4 controlled domain. Because of some problems setting the document defaults, I tried cupsaddsmb with the Adobe PS driver. The installation of the driver works fine, but some document defaults (eg. download as softfont instead of substitute with

smbclient does not show.....
Hi, this is a new user who is trying to reach the local network, managed by a windows NT server. I have edited my smb.conf file (which I include) so to be able to reach the network drives and the printers on the ntserver locally. When I try to see what is available using smbclient at the prompt, I cannot see which are the Services available (sharename fields empty), but I do see a lot of things
