What does this error mean and can I fix it.
This is true with OpenSsh 3.8p1 and OpenSsh 3.9p1. I am running on Sun
Solaris servers, both Solaris 8 and Solaris 9.
I send all ssh syslog messages to local3 via the sshd_config file. I
periodically get in my error logs the line:
Oct 4 15:29:36 wintermute sshd[14517]: [ID 800047 local3.error] error:
Could not get shadow information for NOUSER
I do not think this is interfering with any

Problems logging on from XP to Samba PDC w/OpenLDAP
I've been at this for a few weeks, and have read quite a bit on the
subject. I try to follow "Samba-3 by Example" as much as I can. I'll
apologize in advance
if my problems should be discussed elsewhere. Samba's involvement is
integral,
but I have no reason to suspect Samba is at fault.
I'll start by describing what is working. DHCP and DNS look fine. Samba

Using Wintermute with Winebottler
Hi!
I'm new here because i'm desperate.
At first i'm not sure if it's the correct forum for that, because it's about Winebottler for OS X, and not just Wine. But i thought both belong together and so you could help. If i am wrong, just mention it.
I'm working on a Mac (Lion) and running WME (Wintermute Engine Editor for Adventure game development) on Windows via BootCamp

Wintermute Spriteedit crashes
Hi there,
I joined a project which uses wintermute and I have to use it for them.
The problem is I can't actually start because I can't create or edit sprites.
The Spriteeditor doesn't load any images, it just crashes:
http://pastebin.com/QZJy9eEb
I don't have much of an idea why, the image (tryed multiple formats) is in my home directory (no spaces or other strange chars) so it

Bug#260743: logcheck-database: dhcp rule updates for failover support
Package: logcheck-database
Version: 1.2.23
Severity: minor
Hi,
a couple of minor corrections to the dhcp rule sets:
First of all, the hostname matching parts need to include the "._-"
signs (maybe . is not needed but it might be).
Then when using failover, log lines of type DHCPDISCOVER and DHCPREQUEST
may be entailed by the string ": load balance to peer <somestring>".

See also: Myths 6 and 8.... there is not Myths 6 and 8!
While waiting for a compilation I was reading Debunking Wine Myths (http://wiki.winehq.org/Debunking_Wine_Myths#head-b7ba8535e8210369749ee2940a7f2bceac4d8ea2)...
Nice read (there are really some crazy people....) until Myth 14 where I read: ``See also: Myths 6 and 8.'' There is not Myth 6 and 8! It is a mistake or some kind of joke?
In the latter case... care to explain?

myths about upwards growing stacks
just downloaded klibc 0.72 and took a look. first thing i found was that
the URL for latest version is out of date:
klibc is archived at:
ftp://ftp.zytor.com/pub/linux/libs/klibc/
the `libs/' is superfluous.
more importantly, this piece of code in klibc/arch/README is wrong:
#if STACK_GROWS_UP
argc = (int)*argptr--;
argv = (char **)argptr;
envp = argv-(argc+1);
#else
argc

compiz workarounds plugin and firefox on Fedora 8
On Fedora 8, the workarounds plugin is not working for me with regards
to Firefox menus. It seems to alternately treat the menu as a window
(with window open and close animations) and a menu (menu animations). It
alternates back and forth for any menu clicked.
I'm wondering if this is a build bug or a known bug. It seemed to start
happening on the jump from 0.5.2 to 6.0 of compiz-fusion.

model.matrix()
Hi,
In R I get the following:
> x <- 1:9
> f <- as.factor(1:9)
> i <- model.matrix(~x+f)
>
> attr(i, "assign")
[1] 0 1 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2
whereas in S I get the following:
> attr(i, "assign")
$"(Intercept)":
[1] 1
$x:
[1] 2
$f:
[1] 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10
Has anybody written a model.matrix function to get the same
result as S?

F14->F16 Upgrade Results in Win2003 Server Client BSOD 0x7f
Hello,
I upgraded my kvm server from Fedora 14 to Fedora 16 and the only casualty was a Windows 2003 Server client that will no longer boot with and produces a BSOD. I admittedly know very little about Windows and this VM has been around - real hardware -> Parallels on a Mac -> linux kvm but it was working fine under Fedora 14. The client does boot fine under safe mode but anything higher

Bug#401259: logcheck: logcheck needs to override locale for grep
Package: logcheck
Version: 1.2.51
Severity: normal
Logcheck has an implicit assumption that the default locale should be
used by grep when processing log files. However, that's not always
the case. For example, I use the locale "en_US.UTF-8", and
consequently grep assumes that its inputs are encoded as UTF-8. But
the log files appear to be encoded as ISO 8859-1, which means that

compiz 0.3.6 in fedora rawhide
Hi,
I've just updated compiz in fedora rawhide and wanted to post a quick
overview of the patches we still carry. Patch details are available
here:
http://cvs.fedora.redhat.com/viewcvs/rpms/compiz/devel
terminate-move.patch
restart.patch
These are already upstream, but not yet in a released version.
aiglx-defaults.patch
tfp-server-extension.patch
These two paper over a problem in

building zip?
Hello,
I know this might sound stupid, but here's my problem. I try to build
packages, which gives absolutely no problem as long as I do this in
Linux. I get my .tar.gz-package. However, for windows, one needs
.zip-files (I guess), but for one reason or another, this seems not to
work.
I'm sorry about this question, but I'm not a windows-specialist (nor
Linux-guru). I don't see

[ANNOUNCE] font releases, part 1
Hi all,
As promised, here's a first batch of font releases, hopefully in time
for the upcoming katamari. For now, I've only tackled "adobe-*" fonts,
the rest will come later once I get round to it.
The major changes for these fives releases are
- CVS tags purges by Jesse Adkins
- font-util macro bump to 1.2 by Ga?tan Nadon
Follows a list of all urls, MD5 and SHA1 checksums:

Just to dispel any hopes -- RC3 really low bitrate
I've just done some rudimentary testing to see how Vorbis degrades at
absurdly low bitrates without downsampling. In summary, don't hope for
anything decent below -q 0 for now. I tried oggenc -b <bitrate> -M
<bitrate> for the below and a few in between:
24k - spectral energy "floor" captured decently, but many pure-tone
blips (think old computer movie sound effects)
