wbinfo fails with disable netbios = yes
I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this one. Ever since beta3
I've been unable to get wbinfo to work properly. I finally worked
around it today, and it seems that with the disable netbios = yes
parameter in my smb.conf file, I get no results. Commenting out that
parameter seems to work fine. It looks like the DNS queries for DCs
is unsuccessful without NetBIOS enabled.

pass on any tips.

wbinfo recognises my username, smbclient does not
Hello folks.
Brand new 3.5.4 install of samba, on a brand new redhat 5.5 install,
trying to connect to a windows domain and allow AD users access. I used
a series of how-tos to set things up, and modified the smb.conf and
krb5.conf files from an existing (working, 3.2.8) system. I apparently
join the domain ok, and I can authenticate an AD user using wbinfo, but
when I try to use the same user

multiple ldap classes?
I''d like to keep some pretty granular class definitions in ldap; but
I''m not sure what is the best way to turn that into a puppet manifest.
Is anybody else doing something like this?
For instance, a samba server might have the following classes defined (in ldap):
samba, samba-bdc, samba-file-shares, samba-build-shares, etc...
And I would like to do something like this:

documentation bug?
Hi,
I'm thoroughly RTFM'ing in order to find out what I'm doing wrong
<http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2009-October/thread.html#151046>
and I noticed that links from the *Samba-HOWTO-Collection* to the
*manpages-3* don't work... the problem is that both documentation sets
are on different directories but links don't include a path (nor
absolute, nor relative).

winbindd problem enumrating users and groups
I have been unable to configure a Samba server I am testing to enumerate
the users and groups in our local NT domain, but I have been able to
configure it to enumerate the users and groups in our W2K domain. I am
hoping someone has some suggestions for what to try next.
The Samba server is running Linux installed with the XFS RedHat 7.2
installer CD. I get the same results running Samba 2.2.3a

Solaris /bin/sh was a real real dumb version of the bourne shell.
Solaris included /bin/ksh as part of the core distribution (ksh88 was a
part of the SVr4 specification) and so many scripts were written with
#!/bin/ksh at

winbind debugging help.. act 2
Folks,
Not even a peep. Did I ask the wrong question or am I on the wrong
list? I don't mind pointers to more information....
I own both the recent books on Samba 3 and they are very good, but I seem
to be missing something.
Anyways...
Thanks and hope to hear from you soon,

Samba 3.0.0 RC1: Unable to find a suitable server
Hiya,
I compiled the RPMs of Samba 3.0.0 RC1 according to
"../samba-3.0.0rc1/packaging/RedHat/samba.spec" and installed the
binaries
from the freshly compiled rpm on my up2date Redhat 9.0 Server.
The command "net join -U Administrator%****** -d10" creates following

Can I use net ads join without DNS
Hi Samba people
I'm trying to join a Solari10 server using Samba Version 3.0.33 server
to an ADS. But the ADS is not in DNS.
I thought I could get round this by putting the ADS IP in the servers
local hosts file, and telling the krb5.conf not to use dns but it
doesn't seem to work.
1. Can it be done ?
2. If it can how ?
Output of my net join ads, still seems to be using DNS
