my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
Hello, It seems that I am in printer hell once again :) I am trying to sort out some printer problems with our UNIX server. The basic problem is this. I have a test server to K.I.S.S the problem. On this server I have defined two queues which are csqlis and HPfinley. csqlis seems to work correctly and displays ready. HPfinley always reads Paused on win2k and NT40 clients. The output of the lpq

Win2k Printing Problems
I just joined this list, If this has been answered before I apologize: I have a Redhat 7.2 box running Samba 2.2.4 I have a few printers running on JetDirect boxes that I am attempting to print to. Unable to join samba server to a NT4 style domain
Hello, I have installed Samba version 3.0.13 on a Solaris 9 machine and am trying to add it to an existing NT domain as a member server. I have followed the instructions in Chapter 2 of the Samba HOW-TO collection for adding a samba server as a Domain member. The problem is that when i use the net rpc join command to join the domain, I get the following error: # ./net rpc join -U

Print jobs hang in Samba, don't go to UNIX spooler
I have encountered a strange printing problem with Samba 2.2.4 running under HP-UX 11i. In the process of investigating a printing problem, I have found that Samba has stopped passing jobs along to the UNIX lp spooler as of yesterday afternoon. When NT/W2K clients print to printers on my server, the jobs are accepted, Samba spool files are created in the spool directory defined for the printer

Win2K sp4 can't print
Hi, I just installed 2 Win2K sp4 workstations on an otherwise working Samba 2.2.8a network and 2 of the 3 printers are showing "Access denied". What's up with that? The other computers that are working just fine are Win98, XP and Win2K NOT sp4. Here is part of the global section: printing = bsd load printers = yes disable spoolss = yes printcap name

Why does a W2K (pro) client do more than it is asked to do?
Desperate to find out why connecting to a samba share(on an AIX server) from W2K is so slow, I tried connecting to the same share from a Linux box, using smbclient: smbclient \\\\aixserver\\sharedir$ -U lynn The results were amazing. The connection was so MUCH FASTER then connecting from a W2K (pro) workstation: \\aixserver\sharedir$ (in the Start|Run edit box) When I examined the samba log

Printer Rights Fail
Hello everyone, I upgraded my Samba server on my RHL 7.2 box from 2.2.3a to 2.2.7. Almost immediately afterwards, all of my admin users suddenly were unable to access the printers that were being shared by Samba. Any idea of what is wrong and how to fix it? The messages I'm getting are that I do not have enough rights. I am using a Windows 2000 Server PDC and a lot of Windows XP Pro, and

Tr: RE: Samba 2.2.5 and printers
Ok, I solved the problem by myself. The problem was that the users with wich I tried to connect to the printer where defined as admin users, and I declared root as an invalid user in the samba configuration, so it always give me an access denied because it tried to connect as root. Anyway thanks for the time you waste trying to help me ;-) ----Message r?exp?di?---- >Date: Thu, 27 Jun 2002

Printers Always Paused - A Solution
I had a problem with Samba 2.2.5 with the printers being permanantly paused to Windows machines. They could print OK - it was only the status that was wrong. The reason for this was because I had used the word office in the printer name / comment. This was causing the parser which recognises the printer status to find 'off' pausing the printer. A quick fix for this is to replace the

Browsing and Mapped Drives over a VPN
Hello All: I have a situation where I have a Samba box (RH 7.3 w/samba 2.2.4) that I set up for a client. Another consultant came along and installed a VPN using SonicWalls between the main site and a remote site. So now they want the remote users to save files on my Samba box. No problem except that the remote users can't see my local workgroup or any of the local machines. Here's

copy a large volume of data from PC to samba server
Hi there, Is there someone over there knows a method or script that can copy a large volume of data (in folders) from PCs to a samba server (suppose there is enough space there)? I know using smbclient or smbtar can backup data on PCs to samba server, but it is written in tar files.I wonder whether this method can handle a large folder, say, in 10GB size. Also, using smbclient with mget and

Unable to join samba server to a NT4 style domain/Sam ba-Guide feedback
John, The restrictanonymous setting was the primary culprit in Ash's issue. I think he's using basically the same setup as I am; no winbind/LDAP involved. I'm thinking there's some initial handshaking that requires an anonymous connection to PDC, and it's being blocked if the restrictanonymous setting is too high. I sent a note to Ash (& the list) asking for the
