Printing problem with CUPS and lp/lpr
I know that printing on Linux is somewhat of an art form, but I have a fairly simple problem. I used the following command to configure a networked printer (HP LaserJet 8150): lpadmin -p name -E -v socket://name -m laserjet.ppd -u allow:all - u deny:none This added and enabled the printer, and I can print to it using the print command from within a GUI application and PostScript

2.2.3a printing problems: no printing from Word, spools taking up all CPU on clients
I'm running Samba-2.2.3a plus the printer defaults patch (samba-2.2.3a-5mdk rpm) on a Linux 2.4.(Mandrake 8.X). This server has been upgraded from 2.2.3, from 2.2.2, which was upgraded from 2.2.1. Everything was working with the same printer configuration at version 2.2.2 and 2.2.1 (although I have moved the WINS server from a new machine since then). The server is a PDC/WINS server, and

users/passwds
Could somebody please explain just how one is supposed to set up samba users, groups and passwords so connections can be established to Win2k clients to connect to FBSD samba server for file sharing and to use cups for printing. I am afraid that the manuals and config files and various examples I have found on the Internet are quite confusing. How is the Windows username/passord related to

Desperate plea for help with printer share
Hey Y'all, I've been trying for months to get samba to share my printer with my wife's Win XP machine. I've RTFM, and spent hours on google to no avail. I can't see the printer from Windows so I can't mount it up. Nothing appears in the logs. The file shares work just fine. It looks like I've got Samba 3.6.9 on this machine: [mlapier at mushroom samba]$ rpm -qa

multivariate Poisson distribution
Hello, from a search of the archives and functions, I am looking for information on creating random correlated counts from a multivariate Poisson distribution.  I can not seem to find a function that does this. Perhaps, it has not yet  been created. Has anyone created an R package that does this.   thanks,   Jourdan Gold     [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Ordinal Mantel-Haenszel type inference
Hello, I am searching for an R-Package that does an exentsion of the Mantel-Haenszel test for ordinal data as described in Liu and Agresti (1996) "A Mantel-Haenszel type inference for cummulative odds ratios". in Biometrics. I see packages such as Epi that perform it for binary data and derives a varaince for it using the Robbins and Breslow variance method. As well as another pacakge

Samba Printing to Win98
I am trying to allow printing from my linux box to my win98 box, to which my epson stylus printer is attached. It's just not happening...something tells me I'm flirting with a world of pain. I *can* print a file by going: smbclient //rory/EPSON translate print /etc/group but I cannot print from applications, nor can i use smbprint. I tried going: cat /etc/passwd | sh -x smbprint

Another printing problem...
I'm running samba 2.2.3a-6 under Debian (testing) and I am having a heck of a time getting Windows 2000 to print to my printer. I keep getting that "Access denied, unable to connect" message. At one point I had it so you could print test pages, but as soon as you tried to print from an application, it would break. However, that doesn't even work anymore. I've been reading

CUPS permissions issues
Hello- I am running Debian Woody, Samba 2.2.7, and Cups 1.1.14-3. I can print as any local Linux client, but there is a permissions issue when I try to print from Windows 2000. My spool directory is /var/spool/cups, the permissions are set 700 to user lp and group sys. If I chmod the directory to 777, printing works fine, but when I restart cupsd, the permissions revert back to 700. I am running
