Hi, I'm using latest Samba version 2.2.8a and are preparing a production server system, which was working fine recently in development stage. My system is basically a SuSE 8.2 Pro with some of the applications being installed manually from source. I'm using CUPS as printer backend and add printers to the system using lpadmin Afterwards I make a reload (or even a restart) of smbd and

Guest Share Access Fails for Win XP Client
Hi, I'm trying to set up a transfer area between my RH9 box and my WXP box. Preferably no password would be required on the WXP box, but I'll take anything after the ridiculous amount of time I've spent on this. If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. At this point I'd be willing to offer my first born child as a reward. And I'll throw in my mother in law free. :)

WinXP problems accessing Samba shares
I'm having problems accessing Samba shares from my XP Pro machine. Samba 2.2.7 is installed on two Redhat 8.0 machines and configured using SWAT. I have user level security and encrypted passwords setup. I have a printer shared on both servers as well as home directories and one restricted access share. My printers are setup for guest access so all machines will always be able to print.

Problems with SAMBA as PDC and Windows XP SP2 as client
Hi!! We are trying to configure a Debian Linux Server as Samba Server (Domain Controller) and a Windows XP (with Service Pack 2) as client. We have configured Windows into the Samba Domain (in other words, we have been able to agregate the machine into the domain), but when we restart Windows and try to login with a samba user (from linux server) (selecting the Domain), we received a message

Setting user permissions (acl) with standalone server & Win XP
Hello, I am trying to provide our users a way to change file/folder permissions on public share on samba (3.0.28a) ROLE_STANDALONE server. ACL's are working fine but the problem is to get list of users and groups on samba server via Windows XP Professional (SP3). When I open 'Select users or groups' dialog and pressing 'Find now' button the Windows asks my Samba

windows 2000 drive connection issue
I've got a 2.2.3a-12 (Debian Stable) Samba server running on a small network with 98, 2000, and XP machines. The server is a domain controller and the computers are members of the domain. We are using login scripts to map the drives. I have one computer that is having a weird issue. When the user first logs on, you can go to My Computer and see the drive fine. Double-clicking on the drive

Having a problem ...
Running a Windows 2000 domain; recently we've made some security changes to deny anonymous users from being able to get at our user list. It would appear that one of my Domain Controllers hadn't been rebooted after that security change, and now that it has been rebooted, I can't mount smb shares off of one of our if the security setting is in place. On a Windows 2000 Domain

preexec close + Win2K
I have Samba 2.2.2 on Solaris 8 acting as a PDC. I have written a script that checks to see if a user is already logged in on the PDC and if so, sends the user a message (via the SMB message stuff) telling them they need to log off. I run this script using "preexec close" under the netlogon share. So, the user authenticates against the PDC, but then gets a desktop that is mostly

Smbclient Connection to Samba server failed
I played with the smb.config file long enough to get both the smbd and nmbd daemons to run. Then ran TESTPARM against the correct smb, conf file without issue. Finally I tried the following command: [root@cofr3 /]# smbclient -U illingsk -L MySQL added interface ip=172.17.60.6 bcast=172.17.63.255 nmask=255.255.248.0 wins_srv_died(): WINS server 172.16.0.121 appears to be down. security = server problem
I am using Samba 2.0.9 on S1 SuSE box and Samba 2.2.5 on S2 Suse box. S1 is acting as PDC for 98, NT clients. (logon script, shares from S1, and S2). Users's passwords are stored on S1, S2 uses security = server and password server = S1 options in smb.conf. I have upgraded both to Samba 2.2.8, but the logon script wants to connect to share from S2, it is prompted for a password. I have

unable to browse/ map drive
I plead complete ignorance. I have 2 Win98 boxes and a Win2K box trying to access a Samba 2.08 server running on OpenBSD 2.8. All IP addresses are hard coded with the IP of the Samba box as the Wins server (see the smb.conf) The Win2K box can resolve the name of the Samba machine but cannot map to it. The other boxes can't resolve the name. All are set to the same workgroup. [global]

EMERGENCY: User profile for Win98 domain logon lost after upgrade to Oct 5 CVS code
Hello all, I'm in very big big trouble here. In an attempt to enable domain logon for NT workstations as well, I fetched the CVS code on Oct 5, 98. I successful built it with no error. I copied the smb.conf from a workable Sambav1.9.18p8 to the Samba2.0alpha. Then I started the smbd and nmbd of Samba2.0alpha. I rebooted one of the Windows 98 (which used to be working happily with

Question regarding Samba and security = share
I am really new to configuring and maintaining samba, and have what I belive should be a quick question. I have recently installed Samba 2.2.2 on a Solaris 8 server. I need to make a directory on the samba server accessable by a small group of people here at work. The users who will be connecting to the samba share do not have accounts on the samba server. The are coming from Windows 2K boxes

Still No Joy In Printsville
First, I want to thank Mark Clement and Steve Litt for their comments. But as the subject indicates, i'm still not having any luck printing. Mark, I can't even get output to a test file. Below is a printout of testparm. One thing that *is* odd, is the reference to a "printers.def" file in /etc. There wasn't any such file there. The contents are a duplicate of the
