[OT] switches
Pardon, this might be off-topic. I'm reading:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_switch
For a setup of ~5 agents, would I be wrong in thinking that a generic 16
port unmanaged switch would fit the bill?
The first model to come up for me in an Amazon search is:
http://support.netgear.com/product/fs116
Is this a reasonable choice? Would I be wrong in thinking that most any

Drought severity index: Excel to R
Dear all,
I'm trying to make an R code for the drought severity index (DSI)
developed by Philips and McGregor (1998). You can refer to the
description of the algorithm on page 19 from
http://dissertations.port.ac.uk/229/01/MaloneS.pdf
The code is given in Excel as the following and can be found on page 60
from the same link.

Special Delivery from China
I received a sample IP/Speakerphone from my friends in China today.
Asterisk setup was fairly uncomplicated and I had it running as an
extension on my server within a few minutes. Sounds quality of both the
receiver and the speakerphone are fine (wife's opinion). Are there any
tests I should run with this phone?
Following are the specs:
- Single line appearance
- Alpha display, 2x16 chars

VM accessing Hosts hard disk
I want to be able to have a shared drive that the VMs can access from
the host machine.
Basically I have downloaded install files from the internet into a
directory on the host and would like to copy them to the VM to run vs
re-downloading them from the internet.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

ISDN, BRI, PRI, voice over IP, and more...
Hi,
I am thinking of starting a project at Work to pilot to use of Astrisk
and VOIP, and would like to tie in several projects together.
Currently we are looking at purchasing an ISDN and H.323 based video
conferencing system from Polycom. It suggests the use of 3-4 BRI lines
(ie 6-8 B channels, but in the form of individual BRIs). We need ISDN
for the video conferencing to communicate with

Problem with Win2k Group Policy with Samba 3.0.2 PDC
Hi,
I am having an annoying problem with adding a group policy to a
Samba 3.0.2 PDC domain, running ona Suse 9 box with Win2k client
machines.
Using 'poledit' from Windows 2000 server, I can add a user or
computer policy for an individual user or computer, and this will
work when placed in my [netlogon] directory, but if I try to
create a group policy, by using 'Add Group', then

Samba 2.2.12 Hardware Migration Policy Issue Win2K
Hello All,
I had been successfully running Samba 2.2.8a on a FreeBSD 4.7
box for a couple years using roaming profiles. The box was
functioning as PDC. The hardware was getting old; I needed to
migrate to a new server. So, I built a FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE box
on some relatively modern hardware and installed Samba 2.2.12. I
copied the master.passwd file to the new box, did the pwd_mkdb,

deletion of symlinks from Windows Clients
All,
I would like to use symlinks to give my users access to all folders they
need right from their home directory. I create the symlinks as root and
they cannot delete the symlink in their home directory from windows.
However when they try to delete the folder (ie highlight it and hit the
delete key from windows) the contents of the folder is deleteable (if
they have write access to the folder)

Is it possible to store XP Profiles on Samba 3.0.2 ?
Hi all,
Can you use Samba to store an XP Pro profile?
I'm running Samba 3.0.2a (compiled from source) on Solaris 9.
Compiled it against OpenLDAP 2.1.30 and MIT Kerberos 1.3.3 (both
compiled from source from fresh downloads today).
Am now trying to get Windows XP Pro to store profiles on to this box.
The smbd and nmbd seem to run fine.

samba and NIS?
Hi,
I have a few questions. My goal is to run
NIS and samba so I have a central point of passwd control
and just one place to change passwords. I will eventually
have 5 samba servers so this is quite important to me as
I don't want to have to change passwords and setup passwords
on 5 servers when changing or adding new users.
Can this be done? So that if a user changes his password

create_canon_ace_lists: unable to map SID
Hi all,
I'm trying to get a Samba server (which is a member of a Samba
controlled domain) to store WinXP Pro user's profiles. The XP user
is authenticating against a 2003 Active Directory server, which then tells
it to store it's profile on my Samba server.
The 'profiles' share exists and is writeable and under some circumstances
we can get profiles to be stored there,
