Samba as Domain Member Server Authentication Problem
I've been working for hours with Samba on Ubuntu Server 9.10 (Samba version 3.4.0), trying to get it setup simply as a fileserver that performs authentication to an NT 4 server (yes, I know, old and out of date). After much struggling, I finally realized that my configuration *was* working when the clients connecting (from XP, and Win2k clients, mostly) were actually joined to the domain

Domain-name appended into username when "selecting users or groups"
Dear all, I am facing a peculiar situation: on my smb.conf log level = 5, and on my windows machine I log on as a local administrator to add remote desktop users that are in fact domain users. When my worgroup = SOMETHING, everything works fine. When I change my worgroup to: workgroup = example.com, and try to add a new remote desktop user, and set as an object name example.com\user and try

Share access problem
Hi again, Thanks. Now, please see my smb.conf and my testparm. ;) smb.conf https://pastebin.com/WR2CY9SW testparm https://pastebin.com/2jMDtWs2 And yes, if I do getent passwd boubou, I have a good answer. I paste the output in the testparm link. If I type \\FILESRV on my PC, credentials are asked, I can see the share FTPFiles and boubou but I cant browse or display the content. Why ?

Fileserver upgraded from 4.1.17 to 4.2 dosen't authenticate users
Hi, I thought Samba4 was able to do everything what was doing Samba3. According to that isn't it possible for you to add a new DC into your NT4 domain which runs Samba4? As it is a DC in addition to others DC (those running Samba3) your domain should continue to work as it did for years. You would just get another DC running more recent Samba. I expect that Samba4 as filesrv is able to

machine trusts connecting to shares
Hi All, I am running 3.4.7 on Ubuntu Lucid. I setup ldap auth in PAM and let that handle all the authentication with the 2003 AD Server (where the users groups, ect are stored). It works great, but one little issue is driving me nuts. On some users (can't figure out the difference) when they log into their machine, I see in the Samba logs that the machine_name_ is trying to connect

Hi everyone, I'm back working on Samba subjects and rather than writing stupidities, I decided to come and use your knowledge : ) nmbd: in modern configurations running nmbd is not necessary and could perhaps even be seen as security issue: it seems to allow NetBIOS authentication which is not secure. Is that true or not? winbindd: is responsible to grab information from AD to produce

InterDomain Trust Issue; Active directory domain does not return users and groups
I have created a two way Interdomain Trust between a Samba 3.21 Domain and a Windows 2003 Server Domain. I am able to log into the Active Directory domain with my Samba users and I am able to access shares set up in the AD Domain. However, when I attempt to log into the samba domain with a user from the Windows 2003 domain, I get an error saying the username/password is not correct.  From the

Help: TS login authenticating using Machine name of TS instead of user.
Hi All, I've had Samba 3.4.7 setup as a fileserver connected to a Win2K3 domain controller working great for a while now. Roaming profiles work perfectly when logging in from the machines locally. However when I try and login to a WinXP or 2K3 machine via an RDP session (Terminal Services) it is unable to locate the profile. I bumped the logging up and still saw no reason why. When

locking and gfs
Hi there,I run samba as a PDC and tried to make this PDC high available with redhat cluster suite and gfs. I experienced the following problem while doing this: If I set the option locking = no in smb.conf it takes about 4 minutes to copy a file of 1GB size. If I set locking = yes it takes about 1 hour. Im not sure if locking = no sets locking off for all locking options. At least I need locking

Fileserver upgraded from 4.1.17 to 4.2 dosen't authenticate users
Mathias, What you say is true in theory, but after Debian went from 4.1 to 4.3, my NT4 domain no longer works. The initial error was no logon server available. I've asked if anyone has a working NT4 domain on 4.3, and no one has replied that they do; therefore, I assume that there are none. Additionally, there were specific changes indicated for NT4 domains in the 4.2 release notes,

ADS, W2K3, and various other broken things. (rc1)
After seeing the /. post the other day I went 'w00p' (as you do) and grabbed RC1. *sigh*. I'm not having fun. I've got a nice little test network here: 2003 ADS Server (gladstonewireless.net) Samba 3rc1 as a member. I can not mount from 2003 - I get a crash.
