Backup questions - errors
Hi, although i've search the archives, there are questions left regarding backup strategies and errors that occur. I'm using dovecot 2.3.11.3 with mdbox (mailbox size 50MB - 30GB). Every night, i ran the following command: doveadm -o mail_fsync=never -o plugin/quota= -o plugin/zlib_save=gz \ backup -u account mdbox:/nfs/storage/account/mdbox ### incremental backup Thanks to zlib

[patch] Initialize xen_vcpu0 before initialize irq_ops
Hello, I find a strange behavior. When a machine is slow (or with many debug traces or a qemu vm), a interrupt can occur between the pv_irq_ops initialization and the xen_vcpu[0] initialization. This lead to a problem because some operations in xen_irq_ops use xen_vcpu. I send you a patch to fix that but I''m not quite sure that is the right solution. Regards, Anthoine From

Seriously corrupt ext3 root filesystem - help?
I just came back after being out for the evening. Apparently there was a power failure long enough to discharge the UPS completely on my Linux box. After powering back up, I received notice that the / filesystem needed "manual fsck"ing. I booted off CD and attempted to fsck. Unfortunately, everything I've tried has proved futile and I'm _desperate_ for some help. I've

fsck and guest images
Hey! I have some RHEL6 hypervisors and the VMs are in raw qemu image files in a local raid array linux raid + lvm + ext3. When a kernel update is installed a reboot is necessary, usually it has been more than 180 days since the last reboot and the file system is fsck'd and this takes 2-3 hours. I am curious to know if there is any documentation that addresses the pro's and con's of

LiveCD problem on IBM BladeCenter remote console ?
I've got a IBM BladeCenter with its integral TCPIP KVM and centos and stuff running on various blades, we use this mostly for software testing purposes in a small development group. i wanted to boot the liveCD so I could try and recover some files from a totally screwed up system (disk got fsck'd beyond what I feel comfortable repairing)... so I map an ISO image of the CentOS 4.4

e2image, ext3 and nightly backups.
I have been looking at integrating the e2image tool into my nightly backup routines for my systems, to improve the odds that I can get data back if something disastrous happens to my file system. I have a couple of questions about this, though, to work out if this is actually worth doing. Is e2image worth running if the file system is online and in use, under the 2.6 series kernels, as part of

sw-raid1+ ext3 - can't fsck on boot?
Hi there, I'm running software raid 1 across two 60GB IDE drives and booting off the raid device. The raid device holds an ext3 filesystem. Each drive is configured as a master on its own bus. The system is redhat 7.2, stock kernel 2.4.9-31smp. The hardware platform is a Dell precision dual 2Ghz P4 system with 1G of memory. I have two of these systems, both configured identitically.

[Q] e2image: tools for sparse files & e2sfck support
Hi, i have two twofold e2image related questions: 1) The man page mentions "cp (1)"'s --sparse=always option. I wonder if there are sparse aware tools which a) display the "real" amount of disk space occupied by a sparse file b) compress sparse files (other than compressing very thightly several GiB of zeros) 2) "E2fsck, mke2fs, etc.

fsck
Hello, We are running units in the field that are headless. Sometimes we get units returned that we when we boot them up have some type of filesystem inconsistency that the default preen doesn't fix but running fsck -y does. I want to eliminate the -p (preen option) and always do the -y option anyone know where to make this change? Thanks, -- Stephen Clark *NetWolves* Director of

Unknown internal error
Hello, I just found this message in our dovecot logfiles: "Disconnected: BUG: Unknown internal error" Should I worry about this ? There are no complaints yet (although it is not limited to one user). It seems to occur with different clients (Apple/MacOS mail, Windows/Thunderbird, Pine). We're running dovecot 1.0.10 on Solaris 10 with mboxes (NFS) and local index storage. There are
