Enlarge ext3 Logical Volume (Filesystem) in a volume group (LVM)
Anybody know a way to enlarge a filesystem ext3 without having to unmounted it, when they are still space left in the volume group (when using LVM) ? I will be running large production linux system running Oracle. I can't stop the database everytime I have to enlarge a filesystem. We can do it with all others filesystems (JFS, REISERSFS and XFS) when they are created in a volume group. Why

freezeing the ext3 filesystem
Hi, I discovered that SGI XFS for Linux har a utility called xfs_freeze, which freezes the filsystem and makes sure that the filesystem is consistant. It is a bit like a mount -o remount,ro but it does not fail when applications have open files. When we take snapshots of our XFS volume, we do "xfs_freeze -f /mnt/foo; lvcreate -s /dev/vg_foo/bar /dev/vg_foo/bar-snapshot;xfs_freeze -u

Poor performance with openldap 2.3.x (Berkeley DB 4.3 or 4.4) on XEN 3.0.x
Dear all, With or without /lib/tls librairies activated, A search in openldap is very slow on XEN 3.0.x . Cpus do nothing . 15000 entries are dumped in 2 minutes whereas same search without xen are dumped in 4 seconds (with far more activitie on CPUs) I have already see one or mail about this problem .  But I don''t see a solution , perhaps a threading problem between Berkeley DB and

Fwd: Re: Samba Freezes accessing shares/ low performance
Thanks Volker, I've Changed the values as you suggested, i noticed that the default value for max xmit is much less 16384! Still I feel like the performance is very slow indeed. This because on server, a can make copys arround 8gb/s! and in samba is all so slow and it freezes as i sad many times... Can you have a second look to the log, to see if you see anything strange? I'm putting

What could cause an "unclean shutdown" of process?
Hello everyone, I've been experiencing many problems recently with windows software parsing large text files stored on a samba share (smb version 3.6.3 on ubuntu12.04). The software, which are running on windows XP stations, are crashing quite often. I notice this in the log.smbd at the time of the crash: [2012/08/28 17:25:21.980609, 3] smbd/server.c:629(smbd_parent_housekeeping) Printcap

After update to 3.6.1 -> smbd dies often ? massive brl and lock database cleanup scheduled log entries
Hi ! We updated our NT4 domain-server samba from 3.0.27a to newest available 3.6.5 version this weekend. I've done various testing in a VM to make sure that everything is working under 3.6.5 and it all seems to run well. After updating the live system to 3.6.5 the following log entries occur really often, but users don't have any noticable problems. ( Tried to find matching entries in

concurrent requests (Rook, but I think the question is more general)
This question involves Rook, but I think the answer will be general enough that it pays to post here. At any rate, I don't know enough to know whether this is a Rook only issue or a general R issue. Here's what I'd like to do (and indeed, have code that should do this): 1. Start R, Rook 2. Start an analysis via a HTTP request to Rook. This analysis uses .Call() to some compiled C

Need help starting Plasma Pong
Alright, so I have no issues getting Plasma Pong started...as long as I run it through the command line. ie: Code: wine "C:\Plasma Pong\Plasma Pong.exe"[quote] That example works fine...as long as it's done in a terminal. However, the game seems to not like being ran without a terminal. (I can't just click on the .exe file to run it). I'm wondering if there's a way

smbcontrol smbd ping also answered by nmbd and winbindd
Hello, with samba-3.0.x an "smbcontrol smbd ping" was answered by all running smbd processes. With samba-3.2.x it is now *also* answered by nmbd and winbindd: [root@cs00 ~]# smbcontrol -V Version 3.2.5 [root@cs00 ~]# for i in `smbcontrol -t 1 winbindd ping | grep PONG | awk '{ print $4}'` ; do pstree -p | grep $i ; done winbindd(29908) - winbindd(29909) [root@cs00 ~]#

Should fs_passno in /etc/fstab be always set to 0
That seems to be the indication given by this webpage http://www.zip.com.au/~akpm/linux/ext3/ext3-usage.html However, default install of Redhat 7.2 setsup fs_passno(6th field of /etc/fstab) as 2 which asks you if you want to run fsck after an unclean shutdown The question is, is fsck required after an unclean shutdown or should one just rely on journal replay. What does fsck do when it sees an

Users can't login any more
Hi, I'm using samba for years now. Today I got complaints from some users they could not login any more. The PC's they used where old Win98 PC's. Unfortunately I still have to support these. It worked fine for years, though. AFAIK nothing changed the last months. And since I do such changes I would know. I have a virtual machine with XP. To do some tests, I made a snapshot just
