Reinstalled Windows and GRUB - Cannot boot Linux - fstab and grub.conf errors?
Background: This is a dual boot (Windows XP and CentOS 5.2 (32 bit) box. There were four (4) NTFS partitions. The C partition got full. I deleted the 4 NTFS partitions and did a clean install of Windows XP, into one (1) NTFS partition. I knew that I would need to install GRUB again and I did that, using the CentOS 5 Installation DVD. When I tried to boot into Linux, no joy. this is the GRUB error

Getting ext3 up and running
I have a Debian system from a Knoppix distribution. I started out with ext2 but decided to change to ext3. tune2fs -j OK. However the system boots with a warning ....ext3 mounted as ext2. proc/mounts confirms this and no journal is running. So I have to make an initrd. Did so using instructions in the Debian Reference and this did not change anything. Any attempt to use the img produced was a

Seriously corrupt ext3 root filesystem - help?
I just came back after being out for the evening. Apparently there was a power failure long enough to discharge the UPS completely on my Linux box. After powering back up, I received notice that the / filesystem needed "manual fsck"ing. I booted off CD and attempted to fsck. Unfortunately, everything I've tried has proved futile and I'm _desperate_ for some help. I've

transfer data from one hard drive to another
Hello I have an OS installation and data on a 40 gb drive that I would like to image to a 80 gb drive. I don't care if the resulting partition layout on the new drive is only 40 gb making me lose space. I just want to move everything from the older drive because I think it's failing. I have looked at partimage and mondo rescue as imaging solutions but both deal with partitions. CAn someone

Fiddling with software RAID1 : continue working with one of two disks failing?
Hi, I'm currently experimenting with software RAID1 on a spare PC with two 40 GB hard disks. Normally, on a desktop PC with only one hard disk, I have a very simple partitioning scheme like this : /dev/hda1 80 MB /boot ext2 /dev/hda2 1 GB swap /dev/hda3 39 GB / ext3 Here's what I'd like to do. Partition a second hard disk (say, /dev/hdb) with three

compact flash, fat, reduced knoppix and syslinux
Hi. I've recently picked up a 256MB compact flash card and CF->IDE adapter. I'm wanting to put a smaller version of knoppix on here. I came across miniknoppix here: http://www.inittab.org and decided to have a play around with that. So far I have opened up the ISO image and copied all the files out. I have put a boot sector onto the CF by putting the CF into the IDER adpater then

how-to: installing R on Knoppix
Installing R on Knoppix Knoppix is a small LINUX distribution (http://www.knoppix.net/) runnable from a CD (without an installation) It can be also installed on a hard drive from a single CD. The idea was to reuse an old laptop with 6gb hard drive and 128mb memory. I had few days experience with Linux and few years experience with R. The latter was not required :-) The Knoppix installation
