rmdir bug?
Samba Developers-- I have a share called pub. In that share, there is a folder that I want to block access to. So, I chmoded it 0700 and chowned it root. In my smb.conf file, I set the "guest account" parameter to "netshare", an unprivialized user. I also set the "guest only" parameter to "yes" No remote computer can "cd" into the directory,

Printing from Windows to Samba problem
Hi, I am having a problem where I get an error which says "access denied, unable to connect" in the printer window for my samba shared printer. I am able to add the printer ok and I can print from linux (RH7.2, printer on usb) without any problems. I can also access the file shares without any problems from Windows. Has any one got any ideas why this may be happening? Thanks. Tim

changing macintosh type and creator codes
Anytime a PC on our network copies a file to our server and a macintosh client goes to view that file, the type and creator codes are incorrect. We are running Samba for Windows clients and Xinet KA-Share for Mac clients. I think it has something to do with the resource forks. I can copy a file to the server from a Mac then copy the file from the server to a windows machine and back again

run firefox via an ssh tunnel
If the point is to access a specific web site only the remote machine can get to, you can also do it with port forwarding: ssh -L 8000:ip_of_web_site_to_access_from_remote:443 remote_machine and then locally run any browser, and access https://localhost:443 (assuming it's https. If it's plain http, use "http" and 80). Note that you'll be breaking some aspects of https

Printing woes
Hi, I've been using Samba for a while, and I'm now running all network printing here from Samba. However, while printing itself works fine, my users can neither view the print queue, nor delete jobs from it, and this is beginning to get annoying. I'm using LPRng to do all the printing. All the clients are NT4 workstations. Here's some selected bits of /etc/smb.conf and

rsync 2.6.6 nasty bug?
I believe I have encountered a nasty bug with rsync 2.6.6 "--delete-excluded" option. When this is enabled, rsync''s operation appears to break entirely. I have a script that I''ve been using for a few years. The script hasn''t changed in the last year or so. Recently I upgraded from SuSE 9.3 to SUSE 10.0 which means that I went from rsync 2.6.3 (+ patches,

scp forces original access permissions when owner lacks write access
Hello, I am not sure if this is a bug or a feature... When I use scp to copy a file to a filesystem which forces or masks permissions on new files (in my case a samba share) the resulting permissions depend on whether the owner had write access in the original permissions. If the owner did have write access then the copied file ends up with the permissions specified by the filesystem. If the

Hi; I installed yum install mod_python and all went well. So I thought it would be appropriate to reboot apache apachectl -k restart and it appeared well but the pages don't load (they hang). static file serving
Hi, I''ve got 40 mongrels running across 4 machines with a hardware load balancer as a proxy. The mongrels serve everything, even files. How screwed am I if I have a 2MB file on my site? Say 40 people are downloading that file. Are the mongrels completely locked up? Joe

It seems that Merb is sending static files with Mongrel::DirHandler. [OT] Serving Multiple Stylesheets
I was wondering whether there is unbearable overhead involved in breaking css into multiple stylesheets? I''m running lighttpd, and the following article discusses why one might want to do that: http://justinfrench.com/?id=141 My CSS is beginning to get a bit lumpy to digest in one glance and the article(s) seem to make a cogent argument for separating functional elements out. I just
