Re: samba and shares
Thanks, but in /etc/fstab I have username/password as options so I don't have to type all that everytime ;) What is weird about this situation (and what no one has addressed) is why gnomba (gtk frontend for samba) will mount these shares fine but I cannot mount them from the command line. What does gnomba do that I am not? sean On Mon, Mar 11, 2002 at 08:24:32PM -0800, Brock Nanson wrote:

7960 Not Picking up new firmware.
G'Day All. So I got the TFTP server all set up -thanks to much help from this list- the 7960 found it and updated to SIP the first firmware P0S30200. What I am now trying to do is upgrate through all the versions, as recommended, to the latest version, P003-07-3-00. I thought this would be accomplished by simply changing the sole line in the OS79XX.TXT file to P0S30203 and reboot the phone.

smbmount shares not lasting
I've got a machine running RedHat Linux 6.2 on a P-II400 with 256MB of ram. I'm mounting shares in the manner 'mount -t smbfs -o uid=user, gid=group //server/share /mount/point'. The server is a genuine NT 4 server, with SP5 and a couple of hotfixes. I mounted a couple of shares yesterday, and overnight the stopped working. When accessing the share, I get an error message that

Win 98 shares mounted on Linux box don't update
I'v set up my /etc/fstab on my Linux box with a line like //acct/public /home/me/smb/acct smbfs noauto, user 0 0 where "public" is a shared directory on a Win98 machine called "acct." When I issue a "mount //acct/public" command on my Linux box, the share is mounted at the appropriate point. An "ls" allows me to see all the files and

problem with mount -t smbfs
This was working a couple of weeks ago, but it's broken now. When I issue a command like 'mount -t smbfs //server/share /mount/point' I get an error that says " mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on //mrbig/grego$, or too many mounted file systems " However, when I issue the command 'smbmount //server/share /mount/point/ it works just fine.

mounting NT 4.0 WS shares w/Linux
Running NT 4.0 WS SP 5 and samba 2.0.5a on Linux, 2.2.12 kernel. Whenever I mount an NT share from Linux, it times out after an indeterminate period of time. This has been a continuing problem, the only workaround being to perform something requiring disk activity on the NT box, bypassing the cache (i.e., ls > /dev/null doesn't work, but df does). This must be done on a regular

Lock Problem
We have some database dos programs runing under Linux with dosemu on the client side connected to Linux server runing samba, and want to do register locks in a local directory mounted with smbmount. In samba 2.0 this was not possible (files become corrupted). Can samba 2.2 do the trick?. We don't want to use micro$oft lan manager for DOS. Any other options?. Thanks in advance Pietro

SMBFS files receiving incorrect timestamps
Hello all. Our system consists of two linux machines, each running Red Hat 7.1 (kernel 2.4.9-34), using SMB to mount multiple shares hosted by a Windows 2000 Advance Server. smbclient from Samba 2.2.5 is used to do the actual mounting. Over the weekend, a number of files on these SMBFS shares were created with incorrect timestamps (modification times). In some cases, the timestamps were off by

smbfs and cifs
I periodically see smbfs questions get asked on this list, and they usually get one of two responses: 1. smbfs is a kernel module; this list is not the appropriate place to be asking smbfs questions. 2. You should be using cifs instead. (Please let me know if either if these is incorrect.) I was surprised to see, however, that the smbmount / mount.smbfs manpage makes no mention of cifs as being

TFTP Server
G'Day All, Can anyone give me some direction in setting up the TFTP server on my RadHat ES3 box? I did quite a bit of reading, but I think I am more unsure now than before. I found the information nebulous. TFTP is already installed. I am trying to determine where the root directory for the tftp services is located so I can copy the CISCO 7960 firmware files onto it. Thanks.... Ferg

Version 2.2.6 and above are not able to store big files over 2GB
Hello, when I store a file biger than 2GB to a samba server version 2.2.5 everythink works fine. But when I do that with a server version 2.2.6 or 2.2.7 the saving fails on the 2GB limit. The problem can be seen with windowsclients or with smbclient (any version > 2.2.5). I did some debuging and find that the lseek64 fails. But I didn't find the reason. Regards Klaus Ethgen

using samba and smbfs as a replacement for nfs ?
Hello, i have searched the archives, but alas i did not find very mutch information on this subject. I read that smbfs always opens a file read/write. Will the Samba Server at the other end lock the file so that no other user can access it ? I have a few Application Servers, and i want them to store all there information on one central data server. One way is using nfs, but as i have read the
