Mailing list etiquette? [mildly off-topic]
Since i've gotten so much help from this list with my samba issues, i've been trying to be active and help others, but heres my question. If I reply to someone, should I send it JUST to the mailing list, JUST to the person i'm helping, or both? I've been keeping it on the mailing list, but some people may want the help to come into their main mailbox. Should I send to both?

Dark Secret of Winbind
First of all hello to everybody on this list. Question 1: I?m having a little (?) problem with winbind. To be short here is the situation: Runnign w2k AD on native mode. Linux box is Red Hat 7.2 with 2.4 kernel. Authentication from my W2K Active Directory server fails. I get following outputs with commands--> wbinfo -t --> secret is bad 0x000001 wbinfo -u --> Error looking up domain

Samba PDC + Winbind
Hello all. First, a little background... I recently downloaded samba-*-ldap-2.2.5-2mdk , installed on Mandrake 8.2 and got everything working fine. I have LDAP installed for "single sign-on" support. I can use LDAP to authenticate other Linux boxes, and have Samba as a PDC for some Win2000 boxes - all working fine. Linux users are the same as PDC users, except for their passwords

Doubts about Winbindd
Hi, I'm trying to set up a PDC using Samba on a Linux server. I need to the linux clients, using KDE desktop, log in the PDC using the KDE login box. I think I could use the 'winbindd' to do what I need but, I still have some questions: 1. Do I need to set up winbindd on each Linux client to log on the Linux PDC ? 2. Do I need to set up winbindd on the Linux PDC

Linux and SMB using single passwd
Hi All, I would like to set up a samba server but using the same user / pass for unix logins and smb logins. This works fine if I use non-encrypted passwords but I have to apply the registry patch to set my win98 clients to use non-encrypted passwords. Could I use pam_smb to authenticate the Linux box against its own smb server then use encrypted smb passwords? I understand that if the smb

Accessing domain share drives
I'm using SUSE linux 2.4.19-4GB samba-client-2.2.5-226 pam_smb-1.1.6-371 My goal is to configure a Linux desktop into a windows domain environment. So far I have managed to configure pam_smb to authenticate users to the PDC. So thats good. Now the problem is when user tries to browse a share. At the moment the users has to retype in their domain/userid password every time they access a

pam module for ldap/ADS for Solaris 2.8 to communicate with Windows 2000 ADS
Hello, In the third party software that we bought, which runs on Solaris 2.8 Server, we use the pam_smb version 1.9.8 to authenticate our users against the NT Domain. Now, our company is migrating from NT Domain to Windows 2000 ADS Domain in native mode. I saw the documention on SAMBA 3.0 (alpha 1-15), and it states that SAMBA 3.0 is compatible with ldap/ADS of Windows 2000. Have you created

[patch] final header fixes
I think this is the last of the header fixes I''ve run across. Though it''s sometimes difficult to tell, I believe Xen/ia64 has asm/mm.h, flushtlb.h, page.h, and shadow.h. Please apply. Signed-off-by: Hollis Blanchard <hollisb@us.ibm.com> -- Hollis Blanchard IBM Linux Technology Center

trellis plot question
Greetings, Does anyone know how to get an id number in the little header above each individual plot within a trellis plot? The default seems to be to print the word id and add a line indicating on a linear scale where the current id sits. Thanks in advance for any help you can send, Suzette ================================= Suzette Blanchard, Ph.D. Research Scientist Frontier Science

ruby.exe growing large, possible memory leak in sql server
Hey all, I believe there is a memory leak when using Win2000 + SQL Server + Apache2 + scgi + rails 1.1. My apps so far have been pretty ''low impact'' and i did not notice it before, but the memory footprint of ruby.exe is growing larger. After 6 queries that fetch ~2,000 rows each, ruby.exe has grown to 41 megs (originally around 20). The memory leak is also present in webrick,

architecture-specific stuff in xend
Hi Ewan, I''m almost ready to integrate some PPC-specific stuff into xend, and I was wondering if you had a plan for how that should work. First example: the device tree data structure we talked about a few weeks ago. We will need to pass the config data to PPC code, probably in XendDomainInfo.initDomain(), and then pass the resulting data structure into libxc''s xc_linux_load()

Winbind local idmap/cache database security concerns
I am currently working on implementing unified logons between linux and win computers on an NT4 domain. I have a samba test server with winbind working properly. All is going well, except that I am concerned about the winbind idmap database stored on the local linux workstations. My current understanding of winbind is that it must be on every machine, unless an winbind samba ldap

NTP doesnt work for Win2000 clients + Samba 4.0.4 (see tcpdump)
Hi all, I am using Samba 4.0.4 as AD DC on my test environment and realized that all my W2k clients (default installation, no special setups made on the clients) cannot receive the correct time of my samba 4.0.4 AD domain controller. Windows XP and 7 work fine though. The problem occurs at three W2k test clients I tried with. The default behavior of Windows clients is to use the update type
