Windows can't see my Samba shares...
Ok... I'm really stumped. I have checked thoroughly. I've performed
all of the steps in the checklist from the HowTo... except for the
nmblookup parts. The arguments to nmblookup seem to be based on an
old version. I'm hoping someone will have an idea. Here's the whole
situation...

Samba getting user info from NT PDC
Hi!
My boss asked me to be able to share some directories on a FreeBSD Samba server
with users already created (and used) on a NT 4.0 PDC server.
So I followed http://www.sugoi.org/bits/index.php?bit_id=10
I just replaced the Windows 2k part by adding the NetBIOS name of the machine to
the NT PDC.
When I did the smbpasswd trick it worked like charm:
testsmb# smbpasswd -j CH-DOMAIN -r PDC

Okay I am confused
I allowed my RedHat Linux box to join the W2K domain, by adding the Netbios
name and Ip into the W2K AD Domain Controller. Now I have a fully
functioning file and print server.
When I browse Network Neighborhood from a W2K client box on the same domain,
I see my user, a test Share that I have created, and Printers. Even though
I have no printers. How do I turn off the printers.
Also.

I'm confused about W2K rpcclient "getdriver" response
Hi,
I'm trying to query a W2K PDC for printer driver information in order to
install those same drivers on a SAMBA 2.2.7 server. I executed an
enumdrivers ms-rpc call to get the list of drivers, but the getdriver
command fails for all but a couple of the drivers. I've included a
representative instance below:

cannot change user password with CTRL-ALT-DEL
I've been running samba (currently 2.2.3a-13 for Debian) as a PDC with W2k
clients for over two years. The system was up and running quite well for a
long time. A couple of days ago, I installed the following MS-patches:
MS04-011
MS04-012
MS04-013
MS04-014
MS02-011
Now when users try to change their password from the w2k clients using
CTRL-ALT-DEL, a popup window appears saying:

Changing password on w2k server
Hello,
I use a server with samba 3.0.0 (with acl-support) and LDAP backend (RedHat
8.0 with XFS) .
For test, I set to "0" the attribute :
sambaPwdCanChange and sambaPwdMustChange
When the user would like to logon, the computer propose to change password.
If the user says "Yes", the w2k client display a dialog box with username,
the domain name, the old password.

Samba ADS -- works with XP Pro, but not 2000 Pro
I am using Samba with Active Directory. I have successfully joined my
Samba server to the domain D1 ( net ads join -U username@D2.DOMAIN.COM
). I am able to succesfully connect from Windows XP clients ( with no
password ), but not from Windows 2000 ( even when specifying a password
). With w2k, I always get "Failed to verify incoming ticket!".
I think it has something to do with

unix_primary_group = yes don t work
thanks for the answer, Louis.
i m talking about the userhome dir.
I ve already read https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders and
i m applying the posix acls to my share.
As the users's home is shared between windows and linux, i d rather use
the posix acls than the windows ones.
Beside the homedir of my users have a form like /home/ first letter of
name /login ( ex : /home/d/dare

Hi,
I installed samba 4.0.0rc4 with CentOS 6.7.
I'm now trying to setup samba server using NIS authentication and access
from Windows 7,
but I hit one question I don't know how to deal with.

Unchangeable "Password must change: Fri, 13 Dec 1901 21:45:51 MET "
Hello Group,
I've been reading many posts but i still don't have the answer to how to force a password change or set a password lifetime.
I'm using w2k clients which connect to a samba PDC version 3.0.10 on a basic SunOS 5.8 system, no ldap or so.
syncing the ux-passwords and the smb-passwords works perfect,
but i can't get it working to force users to change passwords.

NTLMv2 in Samba 3.0
I tested NTLMv2 again using the newly created Samba 3.0.2 (I didn't test
3.0.1). It still doesn't seem to work. Has anyone successfully made
NTLMv2 work? If so, can I have a working sample of the smb.conf file?
I have included below entries in my smb.conf (among other entries):
security = server
password server = NTDomainController
client ntlmv2 auth = yes

Strange error message when a user can't change password
Hello,
I'm trying to set up samba as a PDC.
The current version of samba is samba-server-2.2.6-1.0.pre2.2mdk
from Mandrake 9.0 RC3.
I want password sync'ing between smbpasswd and shadow.
I've set it up so that password rules are enforced
(i.e. the new password must not be in a dictionary),
and smb.conf has a "min passwd length" set to 5.
Everything works great, the users

M$ W2K Clients get requests to change samba password -- PDC is a samba 2.2.8a
I am seeing an intermittent problem that bugs just a few people,
infrequently.
We use a Linux RH8 / Samba 2.2.8a PDC and the clients are W2K SP3 systems
with
current M$ patches.
At times, users get the a message that their password expires in XX days and
if they would like to change them.
The smbpasswd file for all user entries are marked with the flags 'UX'

still problems with password-expiration
Hi folks,
I knew this was recently discussed but I still couldn't get it to work.
I still have the problem that the users on the W2K-Clients get the message
about the password going to expire in 5 days when joining the
Samba-PDC-Domain.
Even if the users change the password, this message keeps coming...
I have no idea what to do to avoid this message...
Funny thing is, the password DOES NOT
