domain admin
i'm running samba-3.0.2 on a redhat 9 box with windows 2003. I've got a samba
pdc up and running. I want a user to have domain admin privilidges. With
samba 2.2.8a and windows 2000 this was easily accomplished with the following
entry in [global]
domain admin group = garvald
this had the effect that garvald had full administrator rights upon logging
into windows2000 through the samba

Grant Tables between dom0 and domU?
Hi All,
The interface manual says - grant tables provide a generic mechanism sharing
between domains.
Subsequent lines suggest mechanism sharing between only unpriviliged
domains.
Can grant tables be used for this capability based shared memory
communication between dom0 and domUs?
Thanks

authenticate authenticated users
Hi
I'm using dovecot on a LAN server. I sometimes read mail from the server
itself locally with mutt and sometimes remotely with mutt or mozilla .
I would like to avoid typing my password whenever necessary but without
writing a plain-text equivalent copy of it locally.
It feels quite silly to have to type the password locally becase the
imapd does not know that the process is indeed a

Multiple Group permissions with Samba
I have been trying to get a straight answer on this and hoping that someone can help me out. This is my current configuration (simplified) and what I need.
We have 4 directories. Call them directory "a, b, c, and d".
We also have 4 groups. Lets call them "admin, user, exec, db."
We would want "amdin" group full control over all directories.
Next we want group

Data source name not found and no default driver specified
I'm stumped. When trying to connect to Oracle using the RODBC package I get
an error:
*[RODBC] Data source name not found and no default driver specified.
ODBC connect failed.*
I've read over all the posts and documentation manuals.
The system is Windows Server 2003 with R 2.81. and the latest downloadable

time server directive and synchronizing Win XP clients
Hi all!
I have configured a Samba PDC (3.0.7) on a Fedora Core 2 machine with LDAP
authentication (conform http://samba.idealx.org/smbldap-howto.en.html). I
have about 180 Windows XP Pro clients using this PDC to log onto the
domain, which works great!
However I seem to have trouble synchronizing the time on the clients to
the time on the server. The users (in group Domain Users) do not have

Installer Requires Administrator Priviledges
Installation of my app gets as far as a message from SetupMgr that reads:
> You do not have administrator priviledges on this machine.
> Setup cannot continue.
I know that running Wine (1.1.0 in my case) as root is not recommended. :)
I'm running an Ubunut 8.04 derivative, so I know I'm not running as root. :D
Any suggestions of a work around ?

Error using 32-bit R and RODBC package on 64-bit Windows Server OS with R version 2.10
I am receiving an error when trying to connect to the Oracle Database using
RODBC on a 64-bit Windows Server OS. The version of R is 2.10.0-win32.exe
Is this the wrong version. Does RODBC only work with 32-bit ODBC drivers?

Can't change permissions for /var/spool/postfix/dovecot.index.log
For some reason i can't change the permissions on /var/spool/postfix/
dovecot.index.log from postfix to dovecot, or anything else.
I changed all the files in /var/spool/postfix to be owner postfix so
that postfix wouldn't complain about insufficient priviledges.
I'm running MacOS X 10.4.7.
I can change it all I want, but the owner and group changes do not
'stick' - they

Vulnerability in vixie cron?
Hi,
Recently there have been advisories and patches for
SuSE and RedHat (and probably a few others) regarding
a vulnerability in Vixie Cron. The details say that
there's insufficient checking of the return value of
setuid, which can lead to priviledge escalation and
lets users run cron jobs with root priviledges.
As far as I know, FreBSD also uses Vixie Cron (at least
the cron(8) manpage

XP user priviledges with Samba
I've read the achives, but I'm not finding anything.
On XP, I can give a local user admin priviledges on his/her
local machine when they are logged in to that machine
and not the domain.
How do I do this when they are logged in to the domain,
with Samba as a PDC?
Some programs need to create tmp files that they can not
if the the user does not have admin privs on his/her machine.

Add a preamble to documentation
Hi list, hi John,
having seen last week a post (see
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?m=107341768923846) that remind me some
quirks I encountered, I'd like to see a preamble added to the chapter 12
of the howto. It concerns the diffent types of admin you will need in a
PDC setup.
I say preamble, but it could be found anywhere else, as long as it could
be found (I have lost long hours

Samba Domain Administrator
Hello everyone.
I'm using SAMBA version 3.0.9-2.3-SUSE as a PDC and internal mail server (few users in user list) for quite some time and so far so good for what i wanted (Domain logins, shares, users files and backups).
My problem is when i need to install software or hardware on a machine (client of the domain - Windows XP Pro). As the users don't have administrator priviledges on their

Multiple Ethernet Cards: Ignoring one of them
Hello,
I have recently had 'Broadband' (Cable) Internet installed in my house
and I have setup the my Linux PC to do Network Address Translation for
my Windows PC. This system has worked well with the PPP modem, and I
know that a full Proxy server would be better, but at the moment I
haven't got the time to set one up etc.
This setup worked fine:

I have set samba up as a primary domain controller for my internal network. everything is working perfectly, almost. although I have machines that have joined the domain, and my shares are working properly, I have been unable to set any of the accounds with administrative priviledges. I am unable to find any documention on doing so.

domain admin
Hi !
I'm desperately looking for an answer here...
I've been fighting all week-end with samba-3.0 and there's still
something I can't do...
Basically: how can I add some of my users to the Domain admin group ?
I use FreeBSD-5.1+samba3.0RC3.
My group maps:
Admins du domaine (S-1-5-21-xxxx-512) -> domainadmins
Utilisa. du domaine (S-1-5-21-xxxx-513) -> domainusers
