SAMBA and Microsoft Access
I'm trying to use Access 2002 on a Samba server.....question, are there
special Samba parameters that need to be set so that 3-5 users can enter
data? All users have proper access (no pun intended) to the SAMBA

thanks

Locking Problems with Samba 2.2.7
I have a new Dell server running Red Hat 8.0 Linux. I just downloaded
and installed Samba 2.2.7 from the Red Hat Web site. I am having trouble
with Microsoft Access 2000 data base locking. The program runs in a
runtime version (.mde)on each client. Only the database(.mdb), the
permissions file(.mdw) and the lock file (.ldb) are resident on the
server running Samba. Each computer can individually

MS Access and Samba
Hi,
we still have some trouble running a MS Access-database on Samba. We now
tried it with v.2.2.6 on RH 7.3 but still we either get no acces on the
database simultanously or we run in problems with updating the database.
The problem is that we make some changes on one of the clients but the
changes are not visible to the other clients until they shut down the
database and reopen it. We

smbd daemon uses all filedescriptors
We are running samba on a number of HP systems running HP/UX 11.00.
We moved from samba version 2.0.7. to samba version 2.2.3a.
We have about 200-400 smbd's running on one host.
Samba version 2.2.3a was running without any problems for about two weeks.
But now on two different servers indepent of each other, the file table
was full.
We found out that ONE smbd used about 5000 !!

Index Corruption xBase database
Hello,
I've been working with a xBase database (similar to dBase) in a multiuser
application. There are like 40 users working on the database on the same
time reading and like 10 writing information.
Sometimes the CDX files (Index Files) get corrupted and is it's necessary
to pack the tables (rebuild the indexes).
I have notice using the smbstatus -B command the following

Two major issues with Mac OS X clients
Hello,
I am having to major issues with Mac clients on our samba server. One
has to do with how the Mac vs. the PC locks files and the other has to do
with a very slow connection to one of our larger shares.
1.) File locking issue:
I am having a strange problem occur with shared excel and word files being
opened by multiple users. The problem appears to be a result of a Mac

Serving MS Access Databases, with ACL
Hi All.
Greetings from South Africa.
I have a Samba LDAP server (v 3.022) running on Ubuntu 6.10
Its serving about 200 users, with profiles, and domain logons.
I want to start server MS Access Databases on it, with the best speed
performance as possible.
At the moment, the back ends for these databases, are about 200+ MB, and
will grow over the next few years.
Basically, the share should

Samba + MS Access
I have a single Linux server running SuSE 9.1 and Samba 3.04. I have one
share that has several MS Access tables on it. One user can operate just
fine, however when a second+ user tries to access the same database
tables, one of several things happens depending on what I have in the
smb.conf file. It's usually a permission denied, or a "can't lock" type
of error.

I'm having the same kind of problem too. Links to other excel workbooks
are really breaking badly. One of them so bad that if I highlight the
file through a windows explorer view; it kills the window immediately.
I'm using RH 7.2 and Samba 2.2.4 -1
Please let me know if someone has some suggestions ....
So far I've tried:

Technical problems with samba 3.5.11 and access 97 .mdb
Hello everybody,
I'm having trouble with samba 3.5.11 and an access 97 database.
I work in a business with 5 users that use a mdb database over samba, and
for the first to make a query everything works fine, but if some other user
tries to make a query when the first one is doing it, the database works
really slow, like if the .mdb file is being blocked (that's what I suppose).
I've

MYOB Performance issues on Samba
I am experiencing a performance issue with MYOB accounting package being
served from a Debian 2.4.18 based server running samba. Clients are
Win2K/WinXP clients in a small workgroup environment, all maping drive
to samba 'data' share. Network is pure TCP/IP, no other (MS or Samba)
servers on LAN.
I've experimented with Oplocks and veto oplocks but to no result the
