using the same version of Windows and the same configuration, the
machine make the registration in

Unable to log on (authenticating) to a Samba NT Domain
I have 4 machines at home:
1 Linux Centos 4.4 running as a PDC
1 Linux Centos domain member running as my file server. Winbind works
properly and I'm able to share files perfectly well
1 Windows XP sp2, member of my domain. No problem accessing files on
Centos domain member
1 Linux Fedora Core 5, also a domain member.
I'm unable to logon my Fedora 5 machine to my domain. I've joined

SSSD on CentOS 7 failing to start when connecting to 4.8.3 AD via LDAP
I've been going around in circles with this for days and I'm stuck. I'm
trying to run up a new AD environment with only Samba 4.8.3 servers that
we'll authenticate user server access against via SSSD/LDAP using a simple
bind. All of our servers are either CentOS 6 or 7.
I've created a test environment with a single Samba AD 4.8.3 server as the
AD server, a Windows 7 client

getent shows only local information
Hello
I have installed Redhat Linux 9 and Samba 3.0.2a from the Source.
I have two Win2003 server for the domain "sambadomain.local":

DNS-Master: dnsserver

Problem cooperating with Windows and AD
Hi,
I'm having a problem getting my Windows machines to access shares in
Samba. When they browse to the Samba box it sometimes gives them an
error saying that they don't have permission or that the server is
unavailable. However this doesn't always happen and other times it lists
the shares. When I try to access the shares it just prompts for the
username/password over and over.

rpc.idmapd error after upgrade to 5.1
Hello,
after upgrade from CentOS 5 to 5.1 I see the following error
in /var/log/messages:
'rpc.idmapd[2330]: main: open(/var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs/nfs): No such
file or directory'
The directory exists with the permissions
dr-xr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Dec 7 10:21 nfs
So is this an owner/permisson problem?
Should /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs/nfs be owned by rpcuser?

Samba not working correctly after upgrade
Hello
I just upgraded from Fedora Core 2 (Samba 3.0.10) to Debian Sarge
(Samba 3.0.14). The Samba server is being used as a PDC with Roaming
Profiles for about 25-30 Windows XP clients. Before the upgrade
everything worked perfectly but afterwards I've had some minor issues
and been able to sort them out. However I have two remaining problems
and I've spent quite a bit of time on them

Intermittent long (~20-second) delays getting to files in a share
Hi,
I'm a newbie to the list, so bear with my ignorance.
I have installed 3.0.14a on FC3, and am using it on a network of 5 XP boxes.
The symptoms are as follows:
When I initially start using the server, there is a significant delay (~
20 seconds) to accessing the share (home directory or a regular file
share). After that I can open files with no problems (near-instant
response) for about 2

Problems with Samba and Windows 2003 Active Domain Server
Can somebody with experience making a RedHat Fedora Core 3 server with Samba installed work in a Windows 2003 Active Domain please
give me some pointers? I have a small installation with one Windows 2003 Server running as a domain controller for about 10 Windows
XP machines. This is working just fine. I decided that I wanted to add a RedHat Fedora Core 3 server as a Mail server, running Cyrus

Winbind issues with UID and GID mappings
I am having issues integrating a FC3 system with AD running on W2k3. I can not
figure out why the user ID mappings and Group ID mappings are going stale. This
is a generic FC3 install with all of the latest updates.

Need local profiles in win2k/sp2
Greetz all,
I am setting up a comain controller for a windows 2000 network and I
think I have everything squared away. The problem that I am having right
now is that all of the documentation/howtos that I have thusfar seen
assume that a user wishes to implement roaming profiles in Samba. We
want to preserve local profiles (local on the client.)
I had seen a posting suggesting to set the

AW: getent not working (again)
I don't think that this is my problem. When I try 'getent passwd <user>' I
get no output either. And we only store about 200 users. Is bug 3024 fixed
in the newest version? I will try to apply the patch.
