Samba 2.0.6 with automount on Solaris
Hi, all
Until recently, we were running Samba 1.9.18p7 in a Solaris 2.6
environment. We configured our environment with configure --with-nisplus
--with-automount. With that configuration, we were able to allow
multiple machines within our workgroup to act as windows 95 logon
servers. Because everthing was automounted. No matter which machine a
person gained access to, it provided them with the

nmbd over ppp
hello everyone.
I don't have a network, but I'm trying to get my friend to
dialin and use my shares that I have provided via smb. Now I have a big
prob with nmbd and ppp. Under Interfaces I can specify ppp* 192.168.0.2
, which is the ip that the dialin user is assigned and yet still nmbd
shuts down showing an error that no interfaces were found.

FYI: invalid 'password server' can cause segfault
While installing Samba 2.0.6 using 'security=server', I at first used a
domain name (whatever.epicentric.com) for the 'password server'
parameter,
before realizing that it should be the NetBIOS name (WHATEVER). An
incorrect value appears to cause a segfault (on Solaris). The
workaround is "don't do that then" but thought I'd report it in case

Samba question - Out of File Structures
I could do with some help.
We're creating a large number of files from from NT Workstation.
After a while (I think it's 1014 files but it may be 2027), the SAMBA log
reports "Out
of file structure" errors. Below is a cut down version of the log
file. The 1014 number is significant as it appears in the SAMBA log when
SAMBA starts.
I'm guessing it's a Solaris OS limit.

Solaris 2.4 and 2.0.6: socket ?
Hello!
We just upgraded our samba-1.9.18p10-Server on solaris 2.4 to samba 2.0.6:
configure and compiling worked o.k., we didn't see any error messages.
we did not touch smb.conf
The NT-clients can not conect to the server: "Server is not avaiable",
in the logs we get the message:

not seeing file system shares
I'm using samba 2.0.0. I have samba installed on a machine running
solaris 2.6. I want to be able map a unix filesytems to a windows
and/or NT machine. I don't see the share when I go into network
neighborhood on the windows/nt side. I've attached the smb.conf file
that I'm using. Is there a client piece that I need to install? or is
there a problem with the configuraion

2.0.6: HUP/charset/profiles/smbmount/logging
This is the list of problems I had with samba-2.0.6 so far. Can anyone
tell me if he can reproduce them and if he considers them as problems?

sighup/log reopening doesn't always work: connections that are already
active keep logging to the old logs; logrotate rotates/zip the logs and
samba stops logging completely till restart.

name_query failed: Samba 2.0.3
I'm stumped on getting Samba to work again on our small network. I've
got one Windows 95 machine that started to refuse to talk to Samba last
week. I *was* running one of the 1.9.18 releases, but when it stopped
working, I figured I would delete the old release and do a clean
install of 2.0.3. I've done that, and used SWAT to configure the
smb.conf file (which can be seen below).

IRIX 6.5 with samba-2.0.6 and gcc.
I just report a problem that seems to be know since quite a long tiem, but is
neither reflected in the FAQ nor in the README's of the samba distribution.
The problem is that using gcc under IRIX to compile samba gives a mismatch in
calling semctl, because the structure passing conventions of gcc are not same as
the IRIX cc conventions.
(As far as I know semctl is the only function taht is

samba appliance issues
Hi All!
I have been a happy and contented user of samba for several years now,
when I got asked several questions I didn't know the answer to. The
questions were:
1) Is there a way to create a network appliance type unix box, where
usernames and groupnames are pulled from an existing NT4 or W2K domain?
(without maintaining a local /etc/passwd file) What is the best way to
do this?

spauratic loss of machines.
Hello,
I've got a samba/win98 problem. This occurs with samba 2.05a and
slackware linux 7.0 and freebsd 3.4-release and samba 2.06. I've got two
machines, one a pure 98 machine, the other split 50-50 linux and freebsd.
All is looking well, samba is my local master, will always win elections
etc. Both machines show up and all is good until I restart samba. At that

error while transfering files
Hi everybody!
I've problems with Samba and Win98 clients. Everytime I try to
copy some files from a Win98 machine to the server, the
progress bar freezes after a while and then after a minute or so
I get an error message that the 'network ressource isn't available'.
The server runs Samba version 2.0.7-3 and the OS is Debian
Linux 2.2 r3 (Potato).
And this is what error.log says:

Samba + winbind :shared resource not found
Hi
I have a Win NT4.0 PDC srv called "G1" and after I installed a Samba 3.0.5
into a FreeBSD 5.3 beta 5 box
I choose winbind in the ./configure . The main goal I follow is to deploy an
domain member server.
As a result:
Running wbinfo -u I can see the Win NT users, with wbinfo -g I can see the
Win NT groups. All seems to be ok.
Through the Midnight Commander, selecting FILE ->CHOWN I

Cannot login to PDC(FreeBSD boxen) from client(win XP)
I'm finally getting somewhere in setting up my FreeBSD PDC. I try and
login via my XP client and now it gives me this odd message. "Cannot
login because a duplicate user already exists on the network. Please
goto control panel and system and change your computer name." Sorta
paraphrased there, perhaps off by a word or two but that's pretty much
what it tells me. I'm just
