winbind problem with existing linux user accounts. (S amba 2.2.3a)
Thank you for your reply. Below are the entries for winbind I have in my smb.conf. Do you see any problems with them? # separate domain and username with '+', like DOMAIN+username winbind separator = + # use uids from 10000 to 20000 for domain users winbind uid = 10000-20000 # user gids from 10000 to 20000 for domain groups winbind gid = 10000-20000 # allow enumeration of winbind users

weird winbind scenario
Hi, I have a box running Mandrake 8.2 and samba 2.2.4 on an NT domain. smbpasswd -j says it joins the domain ok, I use the included sys-auth-windbind file for pam, and the winbind entries are in nsswitch.conf. Everything appears to be running, but when I try wbinfo -u I get "Error looking up domain users". getent passwd only return the linux accounts. Yet wbinfo -t returns

Winbind: can't log in as domain user
Sorry about the lengthy post - I'm putting as much in here as I can in hopes that someone can help me ferret out the problem. Basic problem is that domain users can't successfully log into the linux box. I'm trying to set this box up as an ltsp server authenticating against our existing AD (although this is actually in a test lab - I didn't really want to trash anything real

windbind or ldap ?
Hello, I'd like to know if in a full samba environment is it better to use winbind or ldap to resolve id's ? users will connect from windows clients, linux clients with samba or also with ssh and nfs maybe.

Winbind and user-mapping
Winbindd can see the NT-user, but samba can't work with the NT-user. My System: SuSE Linux 7.2 Enterprise Server Samba-2.2.3a I have install samba by the following steps: 1. ./configure --prefix=/opt/samba-2.2.3a --with-winbind 2. make 3. make install 4. cp /tmp/samba-2.2.3a/source/nsswitch/libnss_winbind.so /lib 5. ln -s /lib/libnss_winbind.so /lib/libnss_winbind.so.2 6. vi

Known limitations? (IRIX + Samba 2.2.3a + Winbind)
Anyone know of a brief overview of the expected limitations on an IRIX system running Samba 2.2.3a +Winbind? Everything seems to least work, but I still find some odd permissions things going on. The IRIX machine is authenticating NT users from my NT domain OK and I can specify user rights to files, but when you do a long listing under IRIX it list the file as being owned by DOMAIN-NAME with

Getent Differences on a DC and a Member Server
G'day All, I'm running Centos 7, Samba4.2.2. (SSSD is NOT running (not even installed on the Member Server)) /etc/nsswitch on both: passwd: files winbind group: files winbind the winbind libs have been sym-linked as described in the tiki. All seems to be working well on both the DC and Member Server. Both smb.fonfs have: idmap config *:backend = tdb idmap

samba pdc winbind
( could not post complete reply, message too large?) I think that's why I have a lot of black screens on the clients. Here debian pdc smb.conf: root at fai:~# cat /etc/samba/smb.conf # This is the main Samba configuration file. You should read the # smb.conf(5) manual page in order to understand the options listed # here. Samba has a huge number of configurable options (perhaps too # many!)
