WinME can't log immediately after restart (Samba as PDC).
Hello list. I use Slackware 10.2 with Samba 3.0.20 as PDC/WINS server in a LAN with 6 more PCs running WinME (I'm not to blame, they were there when I arrived). I've followed step by step the HOW-TO in setting up Samba as a PDC and a WINS server, but when I reboot one of the WinMEs I can't log on to the domain immediately. I have to hit [Esc], enter MS-DOS and do

Disappearing shares
I have a problem of shares that "disappear" or are inaccessible. This only happens with Win2k and only for some users. My Samba is version 2.2.2 running on Solaris 2.6. Here's the sequence: 1) The user logs into PC (not using PDC). 2) He connects to Samba server via "Run..." and typing \\spike. 3) The user is prompted for "connect as" and "password".

Problem with Office (and Windows 2000) and oplocks (and even without)
Since switching from Samba 2.2.3a-6 on Debian stable to 3.0.2a packages from the samba.org server (system is Debian stable too) we've had extreme problems with Office documents. Samba acts as a PDC and the user log onto it. The LDAP Authentication works great. Our clients are all Windows 2000 and Office 2000. When opening documents word (excel) sometimes just hangs (for 30 seconds until

SOLVED - Re: login to ms access db very slow on samba 3.x
Hello everybody, Hi Jorge We have found a solution to the problem I've posted earlier to this mailing list; see below for the full history. There was a function in our runtime application which would rebuild all links to external access tables each time the application was started. To keep it short, we're checking the presence of a certain value when starting (in the windows

MS Office crashes on files from samba 2.2.3a Server
Hi, I use a RH7.2++ samba-2.2.3a-6, kernel-2.4.9-7 PDC configured server. If I open a MS Office file (word/excel), the changes can be saved, but closing the application crashes it. I'v read about oplock problems on this list and in the net; the only solution was to update to 2.2.5 and may be to RH 7.3++. I set oplocks = no, level2 oplocks = no (GLOBAL), hoping that would help - but it

Samba pdc with ldap & samba3-3.0.25c-34 on CentOS 5
Hi all, I had been running a Samba pdc using the standard tdbsam backend on CentOS 4.5 supporting 20+ WinXPsp2 workstations and a Win2k3 Terminal Server. This set up was running fine for arroung 18 months maybe more. The above system was built on ageing hardware that used to be a Win 2k server that died from OS corruption. Due to the expanding client needs there was good reason to replace

Samba + MS Access
I have a single Linux server running SuSE 9.1 and Samba 3.04. I have one share that has several MS Access tables on it. One user can operate just fine, however when a second+ user tries to access the same database tables, one of several things happens depending on what I have in the smb.conf file. It's usually a permission denied, or a "can't lock" type of error. When the

Slow MS Access database after upgrade to Samba3
Hi, I had a Debian woody server with samba as PDC with LDAP backend in the same box, and mixed windows clients (98, XP, etc). The clients accessed a 75MB MS Access database (.mdb) that was put in a Samba share. Everything was fast... everything was good... But, last week I decided to upgrade to debian Sarge, so as you know Samba was upgraded to Samba3 too (3.0.14a), and now if a user tries to

Oplocks Usage Recommendations Whitepaper (with attachment)
Here is Oplocks Usage Recommendations Whitepaper for Samba on HP-UX (originally was written for CIFS/9000 Server on HP-UX). Note that the intended audience is/are HP-UX customers who have questions and concerns about when to configure oplocks. This is intended as a rudimentry guide to help avoid the most obvious oplock pitfalls. Hopefully the plain text alignments hold up well for most editors.

Slow navigation on samba share
hi all, I have a problem with some windows 7 pro (64) clients navigating on samba shares. The user wants to open a folder and then it takes a long time until it opens. Looking into the samba log of the PC it is filled with this entries (seems to check for every ldap user): [2013/03/18 10:10:54.224428, 2] passdb/pdb_ldap.c:572(init_sam_from_ldap) init_sam_from_ldap: Entry found for user:

RESOLVED: Need urgent help. trust relationship problem during authentication
I am not sure if this first post made it to the list, but I wanted to post the resolution, which was very simple and something I had documented but buried and I had forgotten about it. All these problems went away when I joined the domain using Samba's version of "net", not Redhat's. If you use Redhat's version, it looks like it joins the domain but it really doesn't
