RE: [OT] Re: Getting ext3 up and running
I referred to the entry
rootfs / rootfs rw 0 0
in the output of "cat /proc/mounts", that is not really very much explicative, due to the setting "auto" in /etc/fstab
and to the fact that file system had has_journal flag and no ext3 module was mounted.
But I was wrong: I think that if you have an ext3 fs and you mount it as ext2, you continue to see the has_journal flag with

/proc/sys/vm/bdflush
I'm lacking some understanding of how to tune / when to tune /proc/sys/vm/bdflush
Where can I read up on this?
Our current problem: Load is low, but ever so often the system decides
to do some serious disk I/O which causes all processes to wait for
disk I/O -- load explodes (rises linear up into the 20-30ies) just to
fall linearly (spelling?) right after that.

compact flash, fat, reduced knoppix and syslinux
Hi.
I've recently picked up a 256MB compact flash card and
CF->IDE adapter.
I'm wanting to put a smaller version of knoppix on
here. I came across miniknoppix here:
http://www.inittab.org and decided to have a play
around with that.
So far I have opened up the ISO image and copied all
the files out. I have put a boot sector onto the CF
by putting the CF into the IDER adpater then

how-to: installing R on Knoppix
Installing R on Knoppix
Knoppix is a small LINUX distribution
(http://www.knoppix.net/) runnable from a CD (without
an installation) It can be also installed on a hard
drive from a single CD. The idea was to reuse an old
laptop with 6gb hard drive and 128mb memory.
I had few days experience with Linux and few years
experience with R. The latter was not required :-)

domU for Xen3.0.2-2 Linux ( Knoppix, Xenoppix )
Hi all,
I have a plan to make and distribute Solaris domU image.
This image should be use at Knoppix or Xenoppix ( http://

I build my xen image by How To Guide - August 2006, and I have tested
the image on solaris dom0 and linux (Fedora Core 5) dom0. It work
very well.

works on live Knoppix, but not on Ubuntu / Kubuntu installs
I have an industrial app I'm trying to get working on wine.
It runs ok using with the Knoppix 6.4.4 live cd [using 1.0.1.] Does not work on Kubuntu or Ubuntu, with either wine 1.2 or after I downgraded to wine version to 1.0.1.
1) Any idea why?
2) Is there an "installed" distro that's very similar to Knoppix 6.4.4. ?
Thanks.

Knoppix won't let me write to emergency drive
I appear to have lost the whole of my home directory on my centos
server (which includes all my mail saved from the last 7 years).
Although I have recent backups of most data I would like to copy
important files from /etc, and, if possible, /var/logs so that I can
try to find out what went wrong. However, knoppix refuses to let me
write to either my usb hdd or usb pendrive. Does anyone know how

installing mgcv (Knoppix/Debian unstable)
Just in case anyone cares or is hitting the same problem:
to install current mgcv (1.0-5) on 1.9.0 on Knoppix/Debian unstable I had
to:
# cd /usr/lib
# ln -s /usr/lib/atlas/libblas.so.3 libblas-3.so
# ln -s /usr/lib/atlas/liblapack.so.3 liblapack-3.so
Otherwise compilation couldn't find -lblas-3 or -llapack-3
(I could have gotten away with the links in /usr/lib/atlas instead of
/usr/lib,

X11 font troubles (Knoppix/Debian unstable)
I'm getting
Error in strwidth(...) : X11 font at size 15 could not be loaded
kinds of errors when I try to change cex to something *other*
than 1 (works OK otherwise).
I can't get through to RSiteSearch() right now, but as I recall
my search of it only revealed people who had problems because they
had failed to install fonts: my Knoppix/tracking Debian unstable

ext3 and bdflush tweaking
I apologize if this is off-topic, because I'm not sure if
/proc/sys/vm/bdflush has anything to do with ext3 performance or not.
However, I've been searching around for a while and can't find the answer I
need. If somebody could shed some light, I'd really appreciate it.
