smbd - wide links / possible buffer failure??
Hello there,
sorry - my first mail seems to be lost?
Might be I am wrong, but it seems that the behavior of wide link option
has been changed since 2.2.7. So we have some problems on our large side
to upgrade to 2.2.8a. Here is what I found, but it may be not the
intention of samba developer!
There ist a new function called readlink_checkin smbd/vfs.c. In this
function is a pattern compare

access denied to home directory
Hi All,
I'm running Samba 2.2.7a on Solaris 8. Since installing 2.2.7, we've
been having a problem where occassionally (starting to happen more)
users are denied access to their home directory. They are able to login
and their roaming profile is downloaded (which is in their [homes]
share).
But as soon as they try to get to their home directory, they get an
access denied error.

Access Error for Roaming Profiles Share
Hi,
I am trying to address some error messages that are hitting the log files
for two 4.9.5-Debian file servers in our all-Samba AD domain. Most

question/problem - SAMBA server dies
Hi there,
I'm running Solaris 8 on a Sun420R with SAMBA 2.2.2 ...
Periodically, at least once a week - roughly, my SAMBA server dies. I'm
not able to completely troubleshoot this yet because the early birds in
my office are most efficient and run the samba.server restart utility
before I get in ... (per my instruction; however now I've asked them to
hold off if there is no urgency).

Win2k oplocks and you
Hello list!
I've seen the threads in this months archives on oplock issues, so I
hope I am not hitting a sore spot by bringing it up again. The reason I
am beating on this is that I've got a testable, repeatable issue with
Win2K terminal server (SP2) running CorelDRAW 10 (patched to current)
against a Debian Woody box running Samba 2.2.3a-6 for Debian. Since I
can repeatedly test the

I'm trying to get Dovecot and Postfix working on Ubuntu 12.04LTS but am not having much luck.
The problem is that although mail gets delivered to the correct place, however pointing a MUA of any description at Dovecot just yields a purportedly empty

chmod(2) and utime(2) Problems
I am having a problem with my samba config on my web server related to
file permissions.
The problem seems quite subtle!
The samba config file contains (Samba 2.0.7):

offset
I would like to do a logistic multiple regression on a binary variate,
with what Genstat calls an offset, ie a regression variable with the
coefficient constrained=1. I'm far from home and have Splus but not R
here, but any information from either source would be very welcome. I'd
hate to have to go back to using Genstat . . .
Thanks,
Ted.

Dovecot and CAPITALISATION = grrrr ;-(
Hello,
As far as I'm aware, email is case insensitive ?
Dovecot however, seems to be taking offence at the fact that someone is
sending mail to user at SOMEDOMAIN.XYZ.
Postfix has no issues handling it, it when it gets passed over to
Dovecot LMTP that I get log lines such as :

plotmath
There's something (probably a lot) missing in my understanding of
plotmath. The LaTeX code for what I'm trying to produce is
\log(-\log(\hat R))
My (probably hopeless) attempt at it uses nested group()s:
expression(plain(log) * group("(", -plain(log)*group("(", \hat(R), ")"),
")"))
Can anyone do it right for me, please?
Thanks,
Ted.

textbook on experimental design?
I'll be teaching a graduate course on (the analysis of) experimental
designs next year, using R. Does anyone know of a suitable textbook?
(Venables and Ripley MASS Ch6 on Linear Models covers roughly the right
material, but at a level that is way too difficult for my students.)
Sorry if this has been asked before. I've looked through the archives and
found Julian Faraway's book, but

[PATCH][QEMU] serial save load fix
NOTE: An applicable subset of this patch was also submitted to upstream
qemu.
SUMMARY:
This patch fixes several bugs in serial.c
(1) A typo in serial_save() where qemu_get_8s is called (should be
qemu_put_8s)
(2) No support provided in serial_load() for version_id == 1 (should
unmarshal
a 1 byte s->divider and should provide a default value for s->fcr
(3) Call serial_ioport_write() to

[RFC PATCH 2/2] virtio_blk: add new module parameter to set max request size
Actually there is no upper limitation, so add new module parameter
to provide a way to set a proper max request size for virtio block.
Using a larger request size can improve sequence performance in theory,
and reduce the interaction between guest and hypervisor.
