Hi, I just installed Redhat 7.2 with samba-2.2.1a on a linux machine. I connected the linux machine to a wireless router, which is connected to a hub. I run WinXP Pro PC which is connected to the same hub. There is no problem for me to connect to the samba server from machines attached to the wireless router, ( one Mac OS X & one Win98), but I can't connect to the samba server from the

Hi people, sorry for the previous HTML stuff, I hope this time it's plain text. Here's my problem: I'm not sure if this is a samba/solaris problem or a Win98 problem and I'll tell you why. I have a Solaris 8 server running samba 2.2.2, a linux/samba 2.0.7 box and a couple Win 98 boxes. When I did a complete restore of my Win98 box from tape, I could no longer access the Solaris

Stumped at "Network Neighbourhood", Samba server is visible, but it's path can't be found ...
Hi all, I can see the RH7.3 linux box I've configured with the latest Redhat RPM samba package in the Windows 2000 network neighbourhood, but when I double click the W2000 computer icon I get the message "\\Linuxbox is not accessible, The network path was not found." The network is a small switched lan, sadly with only one unix box (RH7.3) and a mixture of Windows2000 and 98

why Samba using /etc/hosts?
Hello, I've had this problem for quite a while. Using ip from my dhcp addresses from 192.168.1.10-.20, I can't browse or see my samba server. But using a static ip .1-.9, I can browse to my samba server just fine. All my static ip addresses have entries in /etc/hosts but not the dynamic ip from dhcp. I found out that if I add any hostname in my /etc/hosts say for 192.168.1.15, then I

Linux box talks to XP Pro, XP Pro permissions denied on LinuxBox
My linux box can see, browse, and copy files from an XP Share. However, when I try to access the box either via its network name (\\linuxbox <file:///\\linuxbox> ) or by ip address (\\192.168.1.231 <file:///\\192.168.1.231> ) Windows shows me an error stating I don't have permissions to access the resource. I have been through the HowTo, and the Troubleshooting section of the

further problems with OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 on RH 6.2
I'm finding another problem with OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 on RH 6.2 (at least, I think it's the linux box that is the problem). I'm ssh'ing to a RH 6.2 box from a Solaris 7 server (scp also... seems like the same problem). I'm using authorized_keys and identity.pub files to do it automagically, and all works well when it's from user to user, where the username is the same, but if

almost printing
Ok, I've managed to print to my HPDeskjet 694c attached to a Solaris 8 box running samba 2.2.2 from Win98. Problem is with the left margin, there are these little lines (garbage) running down the 1st column on the left side of the page. Also, when I print a page from Word 97, the whole page doesn't print (about 95% of it) and starts a little too far down the page. Printing was perfect

Large (3000+ users) NT to Samba migration
Hi guys and girls, A client of mine is seriously investigating migrating their 7 NT servers and 3000+ users to Linux running Samba. I've read one or two documents so far about the migration, but I'm still a little unclear about a number of things. When you have a chance I'd really appreciate your guidance on the following items. 1.) LDAP, /etc/passwd or MySQL backend (if supported).

two printers: one works ok in w9x/2k, other printer unavailable in Win98 BUT ok in w2k!
Hi all, I try to explain my strange Samba problem: I've done a linuxbox with Mandrake 8.2 distro; installed Samba 2.2 packages and two printers attached via parallel port: one works with the motherboard built-in parallel port, the other is connected via a pci parallel port card. Both works fine on win2000 clients (and on the linuxbox, too :); on windows 98 clients, both printers are

Netbios name resolution with DHCP
I have a network with RH7.2 (netbois name "server"), Mandrake 8.1 ("Linuxbox"), Smoothwall ("Smoothwall"), WinNT ("di-bosco"), Win 98 ("robertw" & "Nicole") x 2 and Win 2k ("DiBosco2k"). Smoothwall is the DHCP server. Why would it be that all the Windows machines can ping to a netbios name, eg ping server, ping Linuxbox

Problem with configurable Linux as a PDC with Windows 2000 clients
I was attempting to setup my Linux box as a PDC but have met some problems along the way.... I am using RH8 which carries samba 2.2.5. I have a testbed with 1x Linux box, 1x Windows 2000 Professional (client). I have checked connectivity between the two pcs with a ping from both ends. I followed the instructions suggested by "Samba Unleashed", configuring the smb.conf as follows: ....

Access Denied when connect to samba box
Hi! I have MS domain, based on MS Windows 2000 Server. I successfully joined my samba box (Linux 2.5.53, Samba 2.2.4) to domain via smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r DC -Uuser%pwd. So when I try to open Samba box via network neighbornhood I got pop-up window with inputs of username and password, I tape valid values and got this popup again. In samba log I see this: [2003/02/12 09:27:58, 0]

Getting share list without password.
Hi. samba-1.9.18p8 using security = user. All the stuff runs good. But I want a cosmetic customization. I want to be able to get the list of shares on the linux box w/out having to fill in a password (same as winBoxes do): smbclient -L linuxbox -U user -N Should not prompt for password. But in fact, it does. I supposed this could be produced by a wrong guest account. I have 'guest account
