Creating computer account
Hi, Can anybody confirm that I must have a user account of the AD who has rights to add a machine to the domain when joining Samba as a domain member in AD mode? Say, when I run command kinit USERNAME@REALM, USERNAME must be a user who has rights to do that. I got the information above from the HOWTO of Samba-3. While I found when I join a Win2000 workstation to a AD, I only need a common user

Re: smb_panic() in name_len()
Hi Andrew, Also the problem only exists when the share is accessed by hostname (not IP address), the hostname is something like 'smb-share'. Too slow to open shares.
More information: When I try to access the share by "smbclient //server_ip_address/share_name -d 10" from another Linux box, I saw some errors(warnings?) like "Doing spnego session setup (blob length=16) server didn't supply a full spnego negprot" Juer -----Original Message----- From: Juerlee (PLS CN) [mailto:jlee@plasmon.cn] Sent: Tuesday, November 29, 2005 17:14 To:

Winbind problem when heavy loaded ...
Hello, Sambas, Recently, I met a problem with my Samba 2.2.3a server. It is configured as a Domain Member, sometimes I couldn't get user list from PDC ( a Win2k server), but it come up again soon , say 5 seconds. I had thought it is PDC's problem, but it seems PDC is fine. Are there any other reasons will cause that? Some log messages attached. [2002/07/08 08:42:44, 0]

Authentication via both domain controller and local Sambapassword file
Try setting auth methods = sam winbind. IIRC when in domain authentication auth methods does not include users in the local sam, but my knowledge could be based upon an older version of samba, so you'll have to try it out. -Marc > -----Original Message----- > From: samba-bounces+marc_kaplan=adaptec.com@lists.samba.org [mailto:samba- >

kerberos auth fails in samba3.0 alpha23
Hi, I build an alpha23 samba3.0 system in win2k AD domain. Just a few days ago, it works very well. But in recent, I find it cannot work. I am sure it is the reason for kerberos authority. When I kinit a ticket successfully, it fails to run "smbclient \\Win2K-server\c$ -k", the error message will be as blow: Doing spnego session setup (blob length=109) Doing kerberos session setup

More files randomly corrupted
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Still having that problem with samba seemingly corrupting files, it seems to be the same files that are corrupted again and again, yet they are corrupted differently and sometimes not. I ran my md5 summer against one file ch02.pdf, and it almost contineously corrupts, I checked in a hex editor and there are some differences. Yet the problem is that

To work around this I had to go into Windows Explorer and change the folder options from "Enable Web Contents in Folders" to "Use Windows Classic Folders". This way, Windows Media player won't load the file when you click on it. Just trying to save

Trust domain
Hi, All, I upgraded my samba to 2.2.4 recently. There is one question about trusted domain. If I set 'winbind use default domain' to yes, supposed the domain name is D1, a trusted domain D2, when I run wbinfo -u, what I should I get? I remembered I will get users like D1\UserOnD1 ..... D2\UserOnD2 ... in previous version. Thanks in advance, Juer

Under Linux box, try to create a file named 'file_linux' under directory 'public', On Samba client (Win2K)

Samba - NT ACL implemented by Unix Posix ACL via Samba
Hi, Hopefully some Samba gurus are interested in some of my questions about Samba ACL this is more in technical detail. 1. Why Samba always think the owner always has 'READ' access right on a file, 'READ and WRITE' access rights on a directory? I checked the code of posix_acls.c, those bits are OR-ed by default 2. Try to create a folder via the Samba Win2k

Local Profiles only
Hello, I have set smb.conf to turn off roaming profiles by putting "logon path" and "logon home" as blank entries. It does not create an automatic

Samba PDC + LDAP without local Unix accounts?
Greetings, We are trying to use Samba 3.0.10 running on FreeBSD 5.3 to replace a legacy NT4 PDC. Our goal is to use LDAP to centralize all user information and authentication on the network. To that end, we've set up Samba to use LDAP for authentication of all the Windows users. This is working, but Samba seems to require that all Windows account have a matching Unix account as well. This
