Data Corruption with Win2K clients & ACT 2000 database
Greetings,
I read with interest the few posts in the archives discussing problems I
have recently encountered with data corruption of an ACT 2000 database
residing on a Samba 2.07 share, SuSE Linux 7.1 (2.2.28 kernel), with about
25 Win2K clients.
I did not, however, see any apparent resolution to this major problem - I
either am going to have to rebuild from scratch my current Win2K Server, or

ldap configuration oddity
Hey, I am totally confused/lost/confused getting this config working.
I am trying to get samba to authenticate against LDAP. After reading a
bunch of docs I generated the config at the end.
When I run testparm against it I get:
Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf
Unknown parameter encountered: "ldap server"

Antwort: Password about to expire -- Turn Windlows Client Password Ageing Off?
Hi,
there is a "X" value for the acount flags in smbpasswd ... it means no
password expiry! I found it on passdb/passdb.c. If it work?s, maybe I
don?t no! Also the password expire time ist hard coded in passwd.c too ...
set to infinity.
Take a look at the passwd.c code!

2.2 Alpha3 - how stable is it?
Hi all,
I was wondering what the feeling was of those on this list as to how stable
this alpha is? Is it useable in a production environment for basic file
sharing of a shared database (ACT)?
The reason I am asking is I am having major file corruption issues with
Win2K clients using 2.07, and if the suggestions already made do not fix the
problem, I would be willing to try it, if it is

username map
Hello!
I want to permit the root account to be called administrator from the win
clients in my network. Therefore I have added 'root = administrator' in my
/etc/samba/smbusers. I have also added 'username map = /etc/samba/smbusers'
in smb.conf. When I try to log on as administrator from a windows client I
get a message that the user does not exist.
I am running samba 3 on

compiling libldap error??
Samba experts,
Ok, we are having so many problems getting ldap to work, we decided to
start over with our compile. We are compiling Samba --with-ldap on our AIX
5.1 system which uses gcc. Openldap (for client support) exists in
/usr/local/openldap/2.2.17. In order for Samba to find the ldap.h file,
we had to configure with
CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/local/openldap/2.2.17/include"

pdbedit syntax for forcing user to change password
Hi all
Maybe a stupid question, but I'm not able to figure this out from the
manpage nor from the HOWTOs...
How can I force a user to change his password at next logon?
I tried:
# pdbedit -P "user must logon to change password" -C 0 -u username
# pdbedit -u username -P "user must logon to change password" -C 0
# pdbedit -P "user must logon to change password"

Antwort: FW: R loops
it did help to create the separate vectors. The problem is, I would like
to continue working with each vector on its own and make some further
analysis.
For that i need to allocate each vector in the filePatterns a unique name,
which I just can't do.
I'm not so great in R loops and the help over the net regards for loops in
R is quite rare.
I'm really thankful for every help.

Antwort: How do I setup a non passworded standard samba user that all windows users can access?
Hi Stuart,
take a look at the "map to guest" in the global section. If you set this
to "Bad User", all connection with a invalid account (ie. no UNIX account)
will be mapped to the "guest account" (also in the global section). Next
step is to set the "create mask" to 666, the "directory mask" to 777 and
the "force user" to your guest

Antwort: Password sync problem
same results with our AIX 4.3.3. It seems the samba redirection of stdout
and stdin (which seems to work with most unix platforms) does not work with
AIX. I detected similar problems with redirection from java.
I have created a patch for samba 2.2.2 to directly change the AIX password
(using AIX-routines getuserpw and setuserpw). I think it will also work
with 2.2.3a. Its not yet published on my

Antwort: roaming profiles Samba 2.2.3a and W2K SP2
Hi Rene,
I have found this in the "whats new" for Samba 2.2.3
Added/changed parameters.
-------------------------
...
nt acl support
This parameter has been changed to a per-share option, and is very
useful in enabling Windows 2000 SP2 to load/save profiles from a
Samba share.
...
Maybe it helps!

Hi Jerry,
Thank you for this statement! ... the problem in the last days/weeks was,
no infos from the team members!
It is no big problem if something is not working. But, if we are making
tests and reports bugs/problems and so on ... And no one from the team
give a answer ! This will make us crazy, too.
You and all of the team members make a great job!
... we will see us in Goettingen!

Fw: Antwort: RE: Re: Samba + Vista Issue
So it seems we've found the problem - just in case someone else encounters
it.
We had previously joined the Server with net ads join, and the
attributes were still present in active directory, and the vista
client tryed to force a kerberos blob on the samba server - which
was promptly ignored/rejected. The solution was deleting the AD
entry for the server and re-joining.
