Strange print spool "ghost" job?
Hi all, I'm currentlly using samba-2.2.2 together with LPRng-3.7.4, and have a problem with a printjob that woun't go away. I use samba for a small file/printserver for 10 people using win98se clients, and it's been working very nicely. As I upgraded from samba-2.0.6, I sent out a testpage from one of the win98se clients to the two printers (hpljet 6L, Epson stylus photo 750) we have

Quotas with Maildir and mdbox
Hello, We use LDAP to store our Maildir++ quota information for our Maildir mailboxes. I notice in the documentation that only SQL and flat files are supported by the dictionary quota if I want to use quota with mdbox? Are there any plans to allow LDAP to be used as the store? samba becomes unreliable on upgrading to SOlaris 10
Hello, we've been more than happy with Samba 3.0.22 on our Solaris 9 machines, but when we upgraded to Solaris 10 users are experiencing a multitude of XP desktop problems: icons disappear, start menu will hang because a few items link back to a samba share, many XP windows write delay problems, the whole desktop will hang. It seems the samba server will stop responding. Is there anybody out

plot 4th variable contour lines on filled.contour
Hello, I have a dataset with 4 variables, each consisting of a vector, all with the same length. I start by interpolating the first three variables using the function "interp", and plot the interpolation successfully using "filled.contour". I then interpolate the first two variables and a fourth using "interp" again, but when I try to overlay the contour lines

Many STATUS_INVALID_HANDLE
I'm in the process of trying to track down the cause of frequent Delayed Write Failures on our network. Most seem to be from database-like files (e.g. firefox/thunderbird sqlite files) that are stored in the users Application Data directory. The AppData directory in our case is on a mapped network drive and excluded from the set of files copied back and forth as part of the roaming

squared semi-partial correlation
Hi, can you help? I am really struggling to find the answer to the following question. I have conducted a standard multiple regression using SPSS. The dependent variable is CE, and the independent variables are Ibelieve and Tbelieve. Because the independent variables are highly correlated I have examined the squared semi-partial correlations. I understand that the Ibelieve squared semi partial

Fully kerberized mail system
Hello, Is it possible to use Dovecot in a fully kerberized mail system? We have configured authentication via kerberos, now we would like the imap deamon to access a kerberized nfs file system. Has any one any experiences? Regards, Matthew. -- Dr Matthew Williams MEng PhD MBCS Systems Administrator - IT Services - Bangor University Prifysgol Bangor Tel: (44) (0)1248 382414

1.2.11 nfs_flush_file_handle_cache_dir problems
Hi chaps We're using the mbox_snarf plugin to snarf mail from /var/mail/%U to ~%U/Mail/inbox and using dotlocking on all accesses. This is on Solaris with NFS mounted home directories. We're getting a few (very few) of these for just a couple of users: Error: nfs_flush_file_handle_cache_dir: rmdir(/var/mail) failed: Device busy Which, having searched, I see some discussion of in the

update encypted and LDAP
Hello all, I'm currently trying out samba-3.0alpha24 and moving to samba-3.0.0beta1 since we're getting into XP and encrypted passwords etc. I was hoping to set everyone (about 13,000 users) up on an LDAP (openLDAP) server with just the Unix crypt passwords for now and run with encrypt passwords = no update encrypted = yes for a while to populate the NT/LM password hashes before

3.0.8/3.0.9 printing tdb entries not clearing
Hi all, We have a strange issue with printing tdb entries not clearing. From what I can tell, this may be an issue on Solaris (5.9) but not on Linux (2.4.18) - I have 3.0.8 (and since last night .9) on a linux server and a solaris one. I don't see the problem on print queues hosted on the linux box. The symptom is that you can print from both XP and 98 and the print job appears on the

share modes
Hello all, I used to have share modes = no on all my application shares as they were accessed for read-only. I particularly put this on my netlogon share after someone got an exclusive lock on part of the login script! I find with 2.2.2 that share modes is no longer allowed and I get smbstatus lock entries for loads of application stuff which people should be locking. What is the 2.2.2

Samba Breaks with ACLs
Hello, We are running Samba 3.0.23c on Debian. Over the weekend, we updated out file server to Debian's kernel 2.6.18. We had previously never run a kernel with ACL support enabled. Since the upgrade, we are seeing very strange permission behavior. It appears to be related to POSIX ACL support in Samba. It seems that what's happening is this. We have a number of files that are

How to write a printcap entry for remote printer
I am sharing some printers attached to Win95 boxes, and would like to be able to do more than connect from Linux with smbclient and print via translate. I would like to be able to specify a printcap entry for these so as to be able to print from pine or lynx or Netscape (when I get X running here at work). I haven't found anything in Samba docs or LDP docs yet to tell me how to write such

Sometimes a user logging in takes a while. I suspect the time delay is due to the size of a user's profile. Where is the profile data kept and how can this data be scrubbed or compressed? Mike

Asterisk 1.8 Paging without DAHDI or MOH Shoutcast with DAHDI
We just finished an upgrade of our Asterisk system to an HA environment on a pair of servers using Linux-HA. As part of the upgrade, we also moved to Asterisk version 1.8.4.3 Most things are working quite nicely on the new system. However, I?m having trouble getting a paging feature to work. In Asterisk 1.4, we simply used the Page() application like this:

inotify and network/cluster filesystems
(dovecot v1.2.16) I've notice the log notices about increasing /proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_instances on my servers, and started wondering if inotify works for network/cluster filesystems.. I found this: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=311194 which says that there's no mechanism for one node to tell another node that a directory changed for GPFS.. And I

Reasons why I shouldn't use Asterisk?
It would seem an odd question, but I'm trying to put together a little presentation on 'Why Asterisk?' and need to list Pros and Cons.... I've got plenty of Pros (including the availability of commercial support), but the only Con I can think of is 'Relatively few installations worldwide' Can anyone think of any others? Cheeres, Gavin.
