Ext3, Raid5, and Quotas on 2.4.14?
I remember that there used to be a problem with disk quotas on Ext3 and
Raid5 on the 2.4.x kernel series. I am running 2.4.14 with Ext3 and
Raid5 and am having problems with quotas and am wondering if I have
something misconfigured or if this combination doesn't work yet.

OT: What's wrong with RAID5
Hi all,
Sorry for the OT.
I've got an IBM N3300-A10 NAS. It runs Data Ontap 7.2.5.1.
The problem is, from the docs it says that it only supports either
RAID-DP or RAID4.
What I want to achieve is Max Storage Capacity, so I change it from
RAID-DP to RAID4, but with RAID4, the maximum disk in a RAID Group
decrease from 14 to 7. In the end, either using RAID-DP or RAID4, the
capacity is the same.

Newbie needs help with failed RAID5 disk
I was hoping someone could either help me or point me in the direction
of a resource. I have searched the web for any howto on repairing a
failed array, but keep coming up short. I have a home file server
running a RAID 5 array that now will not mount my array. I believe it
is telling me there is a problem with the second drive.
The basics:

Ext3 on RAID5 for video archive server
I am using a terabyte RAID5 with ext3 and created using mdadm, to store jpeg files on a rehdat 7.3 system. I need to write files to the RAID5 at the rate of 800 files per second, and each file is about 10-20 KB in size.
I have tried using data-writeback and the noatime options while mounting, and I am also using a stipe-size of 4MB (since 4MB was the max that mdadm would allow me), and i have

Raid5 issues
So when I couldn't get the raid10 to work, I decided to do raid5.
Everything installed and looked good. I left it overnight to rebuild
the array, and when I came in this morning, everything was frozen. Upon
reboot, it said that 2 of the 4 devices for the raid5 array failed.
Luckily, I didn't have any data on it, but how do I know that the same
thing won't happen when I have

Large Filesystem + ext3: Missing Drive Space
Hi,
I just installed Redhat AS 2.1 on a a new machine with tons of RAID5
space. During the install, I created the partition/filesystem /largedisk
with 550784264 blocks. After everything is installed and mounted, I get
the following in a df:
/dev/sda8 550784264 32828 522773144 1% /largedisk
The avail + used != total, not even close. I realize that the 32828 is

2.4.20: ext3/raid5 - allocating block in system zone/multiple 1 requests for sector]

note that I need this RAID going so I've rebuilt with reiser, but would
still appreciate suggestions; the message was original sent to the lkml)
Hi,
I've just built an 800GB RAID5 array and built an ext3 file system

new RAID5 array: 3x500GB with XFS
Hello all,
I have yesterday after some typos, sent my ext3 RAID5 array to the
void...
I want to recreate it now, but I read on
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Disk_Optimization
that you can optimize the filesystem on top of the RAID.
Will this wiki article be exactly the same for XFS?
Is it worth the trouble to also create an LVM volume on the RAID array?

Cygwin, Rsync, and Raid5
Hello all!
I've got CGYWIN running on an NT4 server, which in turn allows me to run Rsync as a daemon on this system. And might I say, it works most excellently, except for one flaw. It doesn't work on my raid drive(s). I have a 56 gig NTFS RAID5 drive running off an adaptec raid-port controller card. I have two other drives in this system, a 4 gig SCSI boot drive, and 60 gig IDE

RAID5 or RAID50 for database?
we have DELL 6800 server with 12 internal disks in it. O.S. is CENTOS 4.6 and SCSI control card is PERC 4e/di.
We plan to configure 4 disks (5,8,9,10) as RAID5 or RAID50. This logical volume will be use as file systems and store database backup files.
Can anyone tell me which one is better on performance?
Thanks.

RAID5 suddenly broken
Hello,
I have a RAID5 array on my CentOS 5.6 x86_64 workstation which
"suddenly" failed to work (actually after the system could not resume
from a suspend).
I had recently issues after moving the workstation to another office,
where one of the disks got accidently unplugged. But the RAID was
working and it had reconstructed (as far as I can tell) the data.
After I replugged the disk,

SATA vs RAID5 vs VMware
Hello,
I have strange behaviour on a server that I can't get a handle on. I have a
reasonably powerful server running VMware server 1.0.4-56528. It has a RAID5
build with mdadm on 5 SATA drives. Masses of ram and 2 XEON CPUs. But it
stutters.
Example : fire up vi, press and keep finger on i. After filling 2-3 lines, the
display is stopped for 2-12 seconds. Then they continue. This

EXT3 performance on Large (multi-TeraByte) RAID
Has anyone experienced a significant degradation in ext3 performance when using it on a Multi-TeraByte RAID? As part of an experimental setup, I hooked up three 300GB drives and made an EXT3 RAID5 out of them, using the entire space one each drive, and started throwing a large number of files in the size-range 3KB to 50 KB. Then, I deleted the raid, and created a new one, but this time, I used

stripe alignment consideration for btrfs on RAID5
Hiya,
is there any recommendation out there to setup a btrfs FS on top
of hardware or software raid5 or raid6 wrt stripe/stride alignment?
From mkfs.btrfs, it doesn''t look like there''s much that can be
adjusted that would help, and what I''m asking might not even
make sense for btrfs but I thought I''d just ask.
Thanks,

4 vol raid5 segfault on device delete
I have a 4 device volume with raid5 - trying to remove one of the
devices (plenty of free space) and I get an almost immediate segfault.
Scrub shows no errors, repair show space cache invalid but nothing
else (I remounted with clear cache to be safe). Lots of corrupt on
bdev (for 3 out of 4 drives), but I have no file access issues that I
know of. Thanks!

help with rebuilding md0 (Raid5)
Sorry, this is going to be a rather long post...Here's the situation; I
have 4 IDE disks from an old snap server which fails to mount the raid
array. We believe there is a controller error on the SNAP so we've put
them in another box running CentOS 5 and can see the disks OK.
