[patch] fix the ext3 data=journal unmount bug
This patch fixes the data loss which can occur when unmounting a
data=journal ext3 filesystem.
The core problem is that the VFS doesn't tell the filesystem enough
about what is happening. ext3 _needs_ to know the difference between
regular memory-cleansing writeback and sync-for-data-integrity
purposes.
(These two operations are really quite distinct, and the kernel has got
it wrong for

[PATCH] kill 2.4 dev_t vs kdev_t crap
The difference between kdev_t and dev_t in 2.4 is rather theoretical, no
need to clutter up the source for it.

[PATCH] use sb_getblk
It's both in 2.6 and recent 2.6 (for RH ASS2.1 you'll probably need to

ext3-0.0.5c released
Hi all,
ext3-0.0.5c is now up at:
ftp.uk.linux.org:/pub/linux/sct/fs/jfs/
and ftp.*.kernel.org:/pub/linux/kernel/people/sct/ext3/
The most important part of this release is the e2fsprogs: e2fsck now
supports the journal changes for metadata-only journaling.
Ted, I've changed around the use of jfs* include files in e2fsprogs
quite heavily here. In each build directory --- the lib/ext2fs

Flush stdout when xentop -b gets SIGINT and SIGTERM.
It is useful when you stop xentop -b by keyboard interrupt or by other
programs such as killall from a batch script.

Contingency tables as data frames
{again a message that was sent to owner-r-help (which is me, currently)
why on earth ???!??!?
reply to R-help or the original sender Brett Presnell; }
I'm teaching a categorical data analysis course this term, and a minor
"problem" has resurfaced that I have often thought about before. This
applies equally to Splus I suppose, but my undergrads aren't using
Splus.

Re: SAMBA compile errors at XFS kernel.. (fwd)
hi Jan,
I've attached Yu-Chan's quota.h -- does this look familiar to
you? It is clearly not the quota.h from the XFS CVS as I had
originally thought. It may be the one from the XFS 1.1 CDs,
which is a Redhat-based, XFS-enabled distro, so would have an
earlier version of your VFS quota patches (via -ac kernel).
Either way, it doesn't really matter. We need to fix Samba,

[PATCH 4/5][REPOST][BTRFS-PROGS] Avoid to scan cdrom and floppy
Hi all,
the commands "btrfs filesystem show" and "btrfs device scan" look at the /dev
directory (and it subdirectories) for every block devices.
This is a slow process because floppy and cdrom are also checked. Moreover,
as highlighted by Helmut, if udev is not used, the /dev directory is populated
by high number of non-existant devices, which slow the process.
My patch

What's ``impres''?
Dear all,
In one S+ program, I found the following code.
if (impres) cat("blah blah blah \n")
Would someone here like to tell me what's the counterpart in R to
impres in S+?
Thanks in advance!
Best wishes,
Jinsong

center or scale before analyzing using pls.pcr
Dear all,
I found pls.pcr package will give different results if the data are
centered and scaled using scale().
I am not sure about when I should scale my data, and whether the
dependent variable should be scaled. If the dependent variable is
scaled, how I give a prediction to the real data?
I appreciate for any suggestions and comments.
Best regards,
Jinsong

Adjusting X-axis time scale
Dear all,
I am plotting daily data from 1950 to 2000 and I wish to have the time in
X-axis to indicate years and NOT days (i.e 1950 1951,......,2000 instead of
1,2, 3, ......).
How do I set the x-axis to show years instead of days.

Confidence Interval of Specral Density Plot
Dear Users,
I wish to know at what confidence level is the confidence interval
provided in the Spectrum function (plot.spec) plots.
The only information provided in the help regarding this is : a confidence
interval will be plotted by plot.spec: this is asymmetric, and the width of
the centre mark indicates the equivalent bandwidth.
Attached is an example plot with the BLUE confidence

problem with Andrew's patch ext3
Hello Andrew,
I patched 2.4.20 with your patch found out on http://lwn.net/Articles/17447/
and I have a big problem with:
once server is booted on 2.4.20 with your patch, when I want to reboot
with /sbin/reboot, server makes a Segmentation fault and it crashs.
I tested it on 50-60 servers and it is the same problem. I tested kernel
2.4.20 without your patch: no problem.

How to select a whole column? Thanks!
Dear all,
I hope to remove a whole column from a data frame or matrix (> 2000
columns). All value in the column are same. The first thing is to
select those columns.
For instance, I hope to remove the V3~6 column, for all the value in
those colume is zero.
