But it doesn?t connect and I get the following:

'Not listening for calling name'
Vicky,
I am having the exact same samba problem that you seemed to have back in
2002. I know that seems like a while ago but if you remember the solution
to the following problem I would appreciate some help.
One of the main errors I am getting from the logs from the windows clients
is this: smbd/password.c:(1558)

Delay on first Attempt to resolve PDC host name
I am using samba 2.2.1a , in an NT-4 domain.
security = DOMAIN
on the first logon to the samba server,
I can see a message:
Attempting host lookup for name MYPDCNAME<0x20>
the next message appears after 10 seconds (that is the delay). samba tries
to resolve MYPDCNAME with the wins server, and succeeds.
Higher debug level (debug level = 10) does not produce more debug messages.
Any ideas

idmap_ad not returning correct UID under 3.3.1
I'm testing winbind 3.3.1-1ubuntu1 (jaunty) and my user stored in AD
is consistently being returned with a UID of 1000, rather than 10031,
which is whats stored in LDAP/AD under uidNumber. If I install the
3.2.3-1ubuntu3.4 packages from intrepid, 'id bryanm' correctly returns
10031, but when upgrading back to 3.3.1-1ubuntu1, I get the wrong UID
again. I did an install from source as

After joining domain, Samba uses the workgroup name, not the FQDN when running the net ads command
Ok, I really do think that line is significant, I checked in AD and my
sitename is "Default-First-Site-Name"

question on gps.prof in ismev
Dear all,
I'm trying to produce a log-likelihood profile for a GPD estimate with
the ismev package. When following the examples, everything is working
fine, i.e. I get a nice parabolic log-likelihood curve. When using my
own data (intensity of hurricanes at landfall), the log-likelihood curve
looks like a step function. Am I doing something wrong here? Is my data
not suited for the GPD fit?

all samba commands running in debug mode?
Whenever I run a samba command such as testparm or smbclient, it outputs
in debug mode. I am running this on a SunFire 12K. I have this same
samba package installed on a Enterprise 4000 and it works fine.
Any suggestions?

OK, I've got the following problem:
I just installed Samba-2.2.4 on a kind of LFS. The client seems to work well (at least on remote machines), but when I try to print the local share list..... here it goes:

smbclient -M/session request failed
Hi Folks!
I try to send a popup via "smbclient -M" from a sun (SunOS 5.8, Samba
2.0.7, hostname "sonne") to a WinXP (hostname "dezntmneubeck_x") but it
fails. Both machines are in the same physical network. All I get are the
following lines:
root@sonne(1017)/> smbclient -s /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf -M dezntmneubeck_x

Winbind + machine account + non-anonymous access (RestrictAnonymous)
Hi everybody,
my (our) goal here is to setup a samba server in a NT domain (and
eventually in a Win2k domain - but for now I just want to test it on NT)
and have it act like a member server - meaning that I don't use the
local user database but instead assing permissions of shares to domain
users and groups.
To avoid having to administer both users in the NT domain and on the

smbclient -L
I have a samba 2.0.6 server. It's running domain security with NT
4.0 Sp 5 as a PDC. That all works great.
When I run smbclient -L against 95,98,or other samba servers I get a
list of shares. However against NT4.0 (workstation and server) I get no
share listing at all. I can retrieve browse lists. I am suspcious here
of needing to guest account something somewhere (local NT domain

No access to machine shares in Samba Domain
Hello All,
I have a Linux box running RH9 and Samba 2.2.7 as domain controller.
Last week, we bought a new (better!) box and migrated our Samba
installation to the new box and apparently everything was working fine,
until we noticed that shares created in the Windows machines are not
accessible by anyone in the domain.
I've read all the docs and everything seems ok, but I can't get

192.168.127.129 is the core DNS server. It forwards anything in the
windows subdomain straight to the DCs, so it doesn't matter if this client
is pointed at the DC or the main DNS server. Either way, it still does the
wrong behavior, which is use the short .WINDOWS instead of .

another nt4 and samba question
Hi, I'm going to scream.
I have a "dell-installed" red hat 7.2 build and I have been attempting to
get it to join my NT4.0 domain with samba... after getting past the old
version of samba that shipped with it and updating to the latest samba
from the samba web site, i still can't join my domain....
Here's the kicker: I CAN JOIN a test domain I set up a few weeks ago,

New user and Install Problems
Hi everyone,
Im really new to the list as well as to Samba. I just installed it on tuesday!
I am having some problems with it. (of course) I am running under Redhat 4.1
with the kernal upgraded to 2.0.33. I can browse the server but I cannot seem
to log in. Everytime I try to connect to it with Win95 explorer I get a request for
password that has the line

and then the
