RH 7.1 and Ctrl+Alt+Del [off topic]
I know this isn't samba problem, but I hope that You'll understand. I have RH 7.1 installed (Kernel 2.4.2-2) and I have strange, funny but really dangerous problem. In every moment (even when there is login screen) in text mode when I press Ctrl+Alt+Del my machine simply shuts down. Is there any fix for this? PZDRWM Szmoyn

Cant find Samba Server....
Well. I resolved this problem by reinstalling all Red Hat but I'm intrested what was the problem. I have 2 computers one with Windows 98 and one with RH 7.1 with Samba (I tried this with 2 ver 2.0.7 and 2.2.2). I could connect to Linux share from Linux using smbclient. I also could connect do Win98 from Linux machine. I could see Linux machine in Network Neighborhood, but when I tried to map

win98 on a second hard drive
Is it possible to configure syslinux.cfg on a floppy to start Win98 on a secondary hard drive? If so, how is this done? Currently I have Linux and Win98 on the primary hard drive, and when I attempt to use the floppy to start Win98 on the second hard drive, I simply start Win98 on the first drive. I have tried many different approaches, all to no avail, and I would really appreciate some

Win98 policies,profiles and logon scripts
I am running Samba 2.2.3a and have my users logging into the 'samba domain'. My WinNT and WinXP users are working fine with roaming profiles and policies. My problem is my Win98 users. The logon script doesn't seem to be working, i.e. when I log onto a Win98 machine (logging into the domain), the logon script doesn't run. I have opened up the permissions to the logon script

File copying under WIN98
with the Samba3.0.12 release i encountered the following problem : when i try to copy a file from a samba share to the local disk then the process hangs with the windows-message "Preparing to copy" (my translation from the german message). In a WIN98-DOS-Windows the copy command hangs too, but the file is created. The copying from my WIN-XP HOME works. My previous installed version

Slightly OT? - How do I set up Win98 to access a printer on my CentOS box?
I have a WinXP guest under VMWare on my CentOS 5.1 host and it can access the CentOS printer(s) just fine. However, I also have a Win98 box on the LAN that I would like to be able to print on the CentOS printer. When I try to connect to the printer, Win98 tells me that it can't find the network...? Any suggestions? (This "slightly" really is - it _is_ directly related to CentOS,

Win98 Network File Caching?
Hi Guys, This is a strange one. We use Samba on a SCO UNIX Box that shares various files out. If you are on a Win98 system and copy a text document over to the local disk on win98 and then modify the file on a single line from the SCO system and then re-copy that file again to the 98 box it doesn't recognise any difference. It doesn't appear to occur with XP and Linux systems mounting the

"Called name not present" - using smbclient from linux to access win98
Hi, I am quite confused by the following observation. I tried to use smbclient on a linux to access a Windows 98 se. --- Smbclient //IP address/sharefolder -U username%passwd. I got some errors like Session request to [Ip address] failed (called name not present). But I can use the same command from the same Linux to access a Window 2000 machine. I also noticed that If I use the the

Samba / NT / Win98 and Browsing
Hey all, Our scenario is hopefully quite simple. A client has a MS Small Business Server and about 6-8 Win98 clients. There are also two SCO v5 boxes, which are running samba 2.0.3 (the precompiled version). From the NT box, we can see the SCO servers, but from the Win98 boxes, the SCO servers are not visible. Samba is configured to register its name with the NT WINS server, and I'd

migration win95 -> win98
Hi everybody, we are currently running a small network with a samba server and a few Windows _95_ workstations. The server stores roaming profiles for all users and provides authentification (logon scripts, policy file, ...) Now, we are planning to add a Windows _98_ workstation. Q1: Will Win95 and Win98 be able to work with the same user profiles, policy file etc? If not, what can I do? Q2:

unable to browse samba server with Win98, but it works with WinXP
Hello, I have samba-3.0.10-1.4E.6 bundled with CentOS 4.3 x86_64 and I can't browse it with Win98. I have a very simple setup, Share type, with access to everyone. If I double-click on the server name from Win98, I have this message: "\\server is not accessible. This device does not exist on the network." If I type the whole path to the share(ex: \\server\transfer), in Win98, it

No print to Samba (Linux) printer from Win98
I'm stuck. I have Samba running on my Red Hat 7.2 Linux box. I can mount by remote dirctory on the Linux box via Samba. But I can't print to the Linux printer. I have a Linux printer installed and I can print to it using lpr. I have a printer configured in Samba and can see that from the Win98SE box. I've clicked on the Samba printer name and configured a Win98 printer.

Quotas and Win98 clients
Dear all, I've successfully setup a Samba 2.2.3a file server with quota support on a RedHat Linux 7.1 with Kernel 2.4.18-ac2. Win NT clients (NT, 2K, XP) works fine, and samba report the quota per user as disk capacity. But Win98/ME clients don't. Samba report the filesystem capacity, and even worse, users can bypass their quotas ! I solved the problem using a dfree script written in

Win98 -> 3.0.28a OK, Win98 -> 3.2.7 No Good??

On out local network, I can see all the boxes in the network from the laptop (hostname: dcrlaptop), but I can only connect to it's normal server (hostname: lakehouse). dcrlaptop is running Win98 and the host I am trying to connect to is

Encrypted passwords and OS2/Win95/Win98
My LAN is running Samba v1.9.18p10 under RedHat Linux v5.2. Using the SMB services are Win95 and OS/2 clients. It's all running fine. I will soon be adding Win98, though, and I understand that there is a question of password encryption. I'm concerned how the encrypted/plain-text communication of password will affect my existing configuration. If I reconfigure Samba to use encrypted

Network lockups with win98 and samba 3
Hi all, This is a new install on a network comprised of win98 and xp machines. I'm a relative newbie to samba and getting some errors and problems. I would much appreciate some advice on my setup. The setup is samba-3.0.23,1 running on FreeBSD 6.1-STABLE as a windows server replacement and with clients mostly running dos POS software on win98 machines and other dos and windows software on

win98 access to samba
TWIMC, I have a situation in which I can access my samba servers with win95 machines but not win98 PCs. When I double click on the server using the browse list under win98, it prompts me for a password to access //SERVER_NAME/IPC$ but denies me access after entering the password. I get accepted with no problem at this prompt with win95. I compiled with the defaults and shared the

Guarddog, Samba, Win98
Using Samba on Kubuntu Breezy, and Win98 on a virtual PC (VMPlayer). Everything works fine, except: When the firewall (iptables via GuardDog) is activated, I don't get any access from Win98 to my Linux shares - neither by ping nor by "connecting network-drive" - even if I allow everything that can be allowed within GuardDog (although this should have the same effects like
