File contents not saving
To Support Team,
Everytime I try to save a file from my Linux Machine, to my WINDOWS 98
Second Edition PC, the file properties overwrite the existing file's
properties, but the file contents itself doesn't seem to save.
At the moment I am running Samba 1.9.18, on a Celeron 500MHZ machine.
I've tried reinstalling Windows, changed motherboards, and tried different
hardrives.

(XEN) Platform timer appears to have unexpectedly wrapped 10 or more times.
Hi,
Sometimes, seemingly randomly, long-running Xen domains, using clocksource
xen, have their clock shift by ~3000 or ~36000 seconds, often with the dom0
complaining about clocksource tsc. The number changes if the hypervisor is
explicitly told to use clocksource=pit, but it still happens. It doesn''t
seem to be particularly hardware-specific.

Small changes to big objects (2): Local Reference Classes
Back to the scenario in my email of Jan. 3: We have objects with some
large (or very large) components and some other components as well. We
need to modify the smaller stuff but are not changing the big data. How
can we avoid copying the big data?
(A use case might be some modeling of large data where we want to save
various versions, all including the same original data but differing in

rspec runner setting $KCODE considered harmful?
I ran across a problem today in which some code ran fine in regular
operation but failed in a test case. I scratched my head and thought "why
would running from within the test harness change the behavior of my code?"
Clearly it was the Heisenberg uncertainty principle in action! :)
I discovered the root cause was that the rspec runner is setting the magical
ruby global, $KCODE, to

smb_trans2: invalid data
Hello everyone,
I have tried to solve out the 'smb_trans2: invalid data' by 'unix extensions =
no' as it was written in one of the previous mails. Still I have a bad
problem:
when I mount like this:
mount.smbfs //server/service /local_dir -o
username=my_remote_login,uid=my_local_login,gid=users,rw
and then I try to copy a file to /local_dir as the user my_local_login, the

smbmount shares not lasting
I've got a machine running RedHat Linux 6.2 on a P-II400 with 256MB of ram.
I'm mounting shares in the manner 'mount -t smbfs -o uid=user, gid=group
//server/share /mount/point'. The server is a genuine NT 4 server, with SP5
and a couple of hotfixes. I mounted a couple of shares yesterday, and
overnight the stopped working. When accessing the share, I get an error
message that

Backing up from windows to macintosh
I want to backup from a windows machine to a Macintosh. All of the
guides that I've seen describe the other direction.
Worse, they all seem slightly different, or inconsistent.
The first thing that I'd want to do should be simple: an rsync -az
--delete of the entire drive, to back up all of the files.
But that's not everything on the windows machine. And this is what I
have not seen

9.58 ies4linux busted: Repository with 9.44?
My debian Synaptic just updated me with winelib 9.58, which I should have been looking out for - because winelib 9.58 totally messes up internet explorer's display of pages with fixed backgrounds. (Repeated images, garbles everything). But winelib 9.44 is Ok, so I need to downgrade. Does anyone know of a repository that has winelib 9.44? Thanks.

Changing file & folder permissions
Hi,
I use Samba 2.2.4 on RH Linux 6.2. I use SAMBA as a PDC.
As well I use SAMBA to provide a user specific network share
for each user logged into the domain.
I wanted to configure that each Domain user can modify
file and folder permissions of files & folders created
within his "private" share using a MS client.
According to info provided by a Samba book I modified the

Windoze don't forget username/password (revalidate=yes why not working?)
Hy again!
OS: Debian Woody 3.0, kernel 2.4.20-grsecurity
Samba: 2.2.8a
status: samba up, and running
Problem: If I use a usrname/password on client machines, (win98 and winxp/2k)
I could not log on as an other user to the machine, only if I logout, or reboot
the client. I1ve read in O'reilly's samba book, that there is an option
revalidate. But testparm says, it is unknown. How can I

Settings file times only
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello,
I restored a filesystem by using rsync to copy directories and files
from a backup volume to the newly recreated volume. All of the
re-created files were given the current date and time rather than the
original file's timestamp. I am sure there was a way to prevent that
from happening.
Is there a way to use rsync to set the timestamps

connection unexpectedly closed error
Hi everyone,
Previously I was using RSYNC 2.5.7 on RedHat 8.0 to
mirror CPAN (http://www.cpan.org/) and LDP
(http://www.tldp.org/) and everything was working
fine.
After upgrading to Fedora Core 2 and using RSYNC 2.6.x
, I kept on getting the following errors:
# rsync -av --stats --delete --force
ftp.funet.fi::CPAN
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (9382362 bytes
received so far)
