one question
Hi Stephen, I'm one of developers of SnapFS, which based on Ext3. I got Assertion failure from SnapFS, at ext3_new_block() in fs/ext3/balloc.c: J_ASSERT (!test_and_set_bit(BH_Alloced, &bh->b_state)) If J_ASSERT is only use as debug, why it will modify data? I found the 'BH_Alloced' flag only occures at two place: one is balloc.c as above, the other is at journal_forget() in

Software RAID & Ext3 v0.0.6b
I've just set up a brand new system with software raid1 (in degraded mode) with one IDE 20GB drive, using kernel 2.2.19pre16 with ext3 0.0.6b. It's split like this.. 32MB /dev/hda1 /boot 2GB /dev/hda2 / ~18GB /dev/hda3 /home all partitions are marked as 0xfd (autostart raid) with the patches from http://people.redhat.com/mingo/raid-patches for 2.2.17. [PATCH 0/6] Quota fixes for 2.6.31-rc4
Hi, I did some more in-depth testing of OCFS2 quota code, especially with ECC feature enabled and spotted some problems. First four patches fix them. I need the fifth patch to be able to mount OCFS2 filesystem with 2.6.31-rc3. The sixth patch fixes a potential problem when quota syncing interval is updated while the cluster is running (which is not possible currently). Joel, could you please

[git patches] ocfs2 fixes
Hi Linus, Here are some 2.6.20 fixes for ocfs2. The patch by Zhen Wei isn't really a fix, but a very small amount of support for a feature which is mostly implemented in ocfs2-tools. Considering it's just a single attribute export via configfs, I'd say it's pretty safe to merge. Please pull from 'upstream-linus' branch of

PATCH for filesys corruption in ext3 with data=journal
Hi, as I mentioned in earlier mail to ext3-users I have been getting some corruption on an ext3 filesystem that has been serving NFS. I am now confident that I fully understand the problem and have a patch. It only affects data=journal mode and I wonder if it might also be the cause of the corruption noted by a number of people on linux-kernel. First I will explain the problem. Then display

[PATCH] BUG on fsync/fdatasync with Ext3 data=journal
Hello, We found that fsync and fdatasync syscalls sometimes don't sync data in an ext3 file system under the following conditions. 1. Kernel version is 2.6.6 or later (including 2.6.8.1 and 2.6.9-rc2). 2. Ext3's journalling mode is "data=journal". 3. Create a file (whose size is 1Mbytes) and execute umount/mount. 4. lseek to a random position within the file, write 8192 bytes

Zeroing freed blocks
A couple of years ago there was a discussion on lkml under the thread 'PATCH - ext2fs privacy (i.e. secure deletion) patch' about zapping deleted data in the filesystem as a security mechanism. The discussion wandered off into how 'chattr +s' could be implemented and whether encrypting filesystems wouldn't be a better solution to the problem. I've been maintaining a
