Pinging win from FreeBSD
Hello Samba folks, I thought you might be able to help me. I have 2 machines, 1 is FreeBSD, 1 is win95. They can't ping each other, but the bsd box comes up in Network Nieghborhood when Samba is active. What's going on? Is it not possible to ping a windows machine from a unix box? They are on the same hub via UTP. IPs are 192.168.1.x and netmasks are same (255.255.255.0).

Tinc on MacOs X
My intention is to set up tinc so that I can connect from home to an office network. All CPUs are running MacOs X, 10.2.8 or 10.3.5. I have read the tinc manual, tincd.8 and tinc.conf.5. However, I am still unclear about a few issues. First and foremost, how to I setup the VPN interfaces on the hosts, on MacOs X? Which file do I have to alter and what is the exact syntax on Os X to setup

No TCP trafic though tunnel
Hello, I have been using shorewall for a long time now. I find it a great piece of software and I am looking forward to the IPv6 version that Tom is planning to start working on. I do however have a problem now that I do not seem to be able to solve. On my firewall system I have a Fedora Core 2 installation with Shorewall (2.0.13) running fine with kernel 2.6.6-1.435.2.3. When I however use a new

Linux as a workstation client
I'm exploring the idea of using Linux as a workstation OS for some of the users where I work. Most of the issues I've looked at seem resolvable, but I keep running into one sticking point. We rely heavily on shared folders on our Samba server, using ACLs to restrict things on a departmental basis. What I'd need is a way to mount these folders with the permissions of the current

Asterisk-Asterisk E1 connection
Dear, I have two Asterisk PBXs with an E1 interface/RJ-45 port in both boxes. I need to connect both PBXs with E1/R2 and UTP cable. What are the requirements to deploy the UTP cable ??? Straight-through or crossover ??? What are the pinouts in both peers ??? Thanks a lot, Alejandro

IFB & ESFQ
Hello Tom, Sorry, please but i again return to IFB question. If i correct understand in current situation IFB haven't profit from ESFQ in common cases (i mean internal networks masquarading) so as we wait from ESFQ allocates bandwidth fairly per source IP(internal) but IFB don't know internal IPs. If i correct, what do you think what can help IFB to solve its main disadvantage

How to reduce size of samba binaries
Hi, I'd like to reduce the size of the samba binaries. smbd for instance is about 1.5 meg, which is way to much if you ask me. Is there a way to create smaller binaries, maybe by compiling differently? thanx, Dennis ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Some users can't log in -- server shows username as " nobody"
Hi I actually had this same problem when running up samba originally. Check that the user has a valid unix acount and that you have added that to the folder share/valid users section. PDF printing problem - can't find Samba's file?
I'm sure this is something simple, but I can't figure it out. After a printing system upgrade, my old PDF-writer script (which acted as an lp input filter) stopped working. I took this as an opportunity to rewrite it to work straight from Samba. But I'm having an odd problem -- I can't find Samba's job file. Here's the entry: [pdf2] path = /export/spool

Setting MWI on legacy PBX
Before I go and try to write something myself, I'm curious if anyone has a script that they're using for setting and clearing the MWI on a legacy PBX. I need to pick up a Zap channel and dial #63XXX to set the MWI, or #64XXX to clear it, where XXX is the extension number. One complication is that I've got a couple dozen extensions to handle the MWI for, and only four channels to work

Some users can't log in -- server shows username as "nobody"
Okay, this is a recurring problem that really has me frustrated. I have a samba server that's using security=server. There are four people who use it. It works fine for three of them, but the fourth one gets endlessly prompted for his password and is never allowed to log in. All are from NT 4.0 clients. What's really puzzling is that when I look at the log at debug level 2, I get the

Hi I have a atrange problem and don''t know where to look anymore. I have 4 interfaces running on RHE3 on a Dell XEON server 2.8Ghz 1Gb RAM. The primary use (only one at this stage) is for the server to handle mac address authentication of clients which it does. The problem however has to do with througput. I have 3 DMZ''s which one is a private range doing masquarading and

using pam_winbind to authenticate PPP?
I'm trying to set up a Linux-based dialin server on our company network. I'd like to have PPP authenticate using winbindd, if possible. I feel like I've almost gotten it to work, but I can't quite get there. Files: /etc/pam.d/ppp: #%PAM-1.0 auth required pam_nologin.so auth sufficient /lib/security/pam_winbind.so account required
