whoops, corrupted my filesystem
Hi all-
I corrupted my filesystem by not doing a RTFM first... I got an automated
email that the process monitoring the SMART data from my hard drive detected
a bad sector. Not thinking (or RTFMing), I did a fsck on my partition-
which is the main partition. Now it appears that I've ruined the
superblock.

LVM repairing or back to regular ext3?
Can anyone point me in the right direction for correcting errors on an HD
when using LVM? I've tried e2fsck and indicates bad block. I've tried
with -b 8193, 16384, and 32768 and no good.
I've found some info about reiserfsck on google, but this utility doesn't
seem to be included in Centos4.3. I did find it on my old FC1 box.
I am thinking now I really should have went with

question on mounting a partition that is in a disk image
How do I mount a partition that is in an image file?
I have a file called centos.img that has 3 partitions in the file.
I need to copy data to the third partition on that image file.
I have seen things about a loop back device (which is fine)
but then it talked about an offset parameter and I dont know what
that is or more importantly what number to use. I hope I'm on the
right track.

e2fsck dies with signal 11
Hi
I got a strange error, happening on two of my ext3 partitions.
What can be wrong? And why does e2fsck error out, instead of displaying
an error message?
Best regards

Very slow ext3 fsck
Hi -
We have an ext3 file system which is 3.5TB in size (on top of lvm). Free are
172049011 out of 854473728 4096K blocks, and 396540654 out of 427245568
inodes. This is using Scientific Linux 4.4 (a RHEL clone). The filesystem
consists of multiple backups created with rsync using --link-dest, which
hard links files which haven't been modified to the previous copy. There

Strange fsck.ext3 behavior - infinite loop
Greetings! Need your help fellow penguins!
Strange behavior with fsck.ext3: how to remove a long orphaned inode list?
After copying data over from one old RAID to another new RAID with rsync, the dump command would not complete because of filesystem errors on the new RAID. So I ran fsck.ext3 with the -y option and it would just run in an infinite loop restarting itself and then trying to correct

EXT3 journalling issue
Hello,
I have 2 boxes with 1.5TB storage with ext3 fs, and the kernel is 2.6.11.8.
I'm using E2fsprogs 1.37 for FS creation. And, Filesystem revision #: 1
(dynamic)
There are 2 scenarios:
1. All SATA drives, RAID5
2. All PATA drives, RAID5 and wrapped in log volumes.
I'm having lots of issues with fsck. I did search, but somehow not getting
the right information.

OT: Question on running command from boot menu
I have a project that disk imaging from a cd using isolinux and a dialog gui
system, but some users want to setup systems to run automatically. Some
can download the development kit, and built an image with a modified script,
but others don't have the skills or resources. I've come up with a system that
seems to work with both the isolinux.cfg or menu.lst with grub4dos and I

help
High all,
In WinXP, I have created file "image.iso" using mkisofs, but unable to
postprocess with the "isohybrid".
I worked as follows:
cd F:\syslinux-4.05\utils
F:\syslinux-4.05\utils> isohybrid F:\image.iso
and received >'isohybrid' is not recognized as an internal or external
command,
operable program or batch file.
What next?
Thanks in advance.

repeated crashes
Hello,
I've got a problem that is not solved after an e2fsck.
What happens is that the kernel (vanilla 2.6.12) does this:
journal_bmap: journal block not found at offset 1036 on hda6
Aborting journal on device hda6.
ext3_abort called.
The filesystem is mounted with errors=panic, so the system reboots. At
boot-up an e2fsck is run on /dev/hda6. Sometimes it finds errors,
sometimes not.

filesystem corruption: resize inode not valid
Hello.
I am having a problem with one CentOS 4 box I have installed. It worked
perfectly for several days, was used as a gateway on my LAN.
After having reached the limit of the disk size by copying stuff from a
windows box to a samba shared drive on the centOS box, and after making a
reboot, the server didn't come up anymore.
Looking at it I was thrown to the repair console and when doing

Ext3 Journal corruption on hitachi deskstars
I recently came across an enormous cluster of x86 clone machines running
fedora core 1 (2.4.24) which have typically all intel or amd have VIA IDE
chipsets.
They frequently experience corrupted journals rendering the ext3 partition
in read-only mode. More important than recovering the filesystem, I am
interested in finding the root of the problem.
The common hardware that all of these

I have an apple Xserve RAID attached to a Linux Box, serving one Raided LUN

even though it mounted the FS, I've been unable to access it. Cd-ing to any
of its directories gives "Input/Output error". The ls ?la on the FS shows

On a customer's machine running SuSE 9.2, the size of the occupied space on
the harddisk is reported incorrectly by "df -h". After we noticed the
problem, I rebooted the machine and had it checked by "e2fsck" (check forced
with "tune2fs -C 40", we are not on location). Right after the reboot I
proceeded as follows, but I could not find any information about

resize2fs on LVM on MD raid on Fedora Core 3 - inode table conflicts in fsck
Hi.
I'm attempting to setup a box here to be a file-server for all my data.
I'm attempting to resize an ext3 partition to demonstrate this
capability to myself before fully committing to this system as the
primary data storage. I'm having some problems resizing an ext3
filesystem after I've resized the underlying logical volume. Following
the ext3 resize, fsck spits out lots
